What are the odds (Nederland version)
tvc184 replied to Jackthehammer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Based on your thoughts looks like Nederland would be heavily favored to win it all
I think three straight championships is tough no matter who you are. They are probably heavily favored to be in the top four and make the playoffs. -

Do we (the fans) put to much of an emphasis on rankings?
tvc184 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Some people surely put too much emphasis on rankings, at least as far as high school. You can read entire threads or posts on here once the season gets cranked up from people that really seem to get upset at who is ranked above who. It is nothing but a tool for discussion. That is especially true when our playoff system includes every team. You can be an unranked 4th place team in your district and have a shot at the championship game. If everyone agreed with rankings, there would be no need for rankings. That is not true in college football where you have to be ranked to get to the big dance. -
In the very last paragraph, what is the deal with Friday night games not being televised?
I think it said that it stayed the same as it is now. Currently you can "replay" a Friday game, on Friday, but it can't be live. There has to be a one hour wait after the game ends before it can be aired.
So Neds beating us in playoff appearances....But how many times have you made it to the big dance and brought it home? Keep trying...
............ and the last time they won the parents of this year's seniors had not even met each other. How far do you want to go back in history to try to find something? Winning a state championship almost 40 years ago? Really? ;D -
"A new Class 6A will be created, but it won’t be a conference of schools with large enrollments as many had thought." ???
It will be no different than when 4A was the largest district. Back then (at least up into the 1980's) the smallest schools were Class B. To make everyone feel appreciated (early political correctness), sometime in the early '80's they made all 11 man teams "A" divisions. B went to 1A, 1A went to 2A, etc., with 4A moving to 5A. (Somewhere in there for a few years they had 8 man ball that was eliminated) Now they continue by naming even 6 man teams an "A" school. So the divisions are no different than they were in the 1960's with divisions back then called Six Man - 4A. Now the same divisions will be called 1A-6A.

Central, Ozen under investigation by UIL
Wow is all I can say. What is a reporter doing taking pictures of minors at 7 a.m.? Kind of creepy. Personally, since 7-on-7 is not a school-sanctioned event, I don't see why coaches cannot transport. I understand liability issues, but seriously...students cannot be transported in school vehicles (or they are not supposed to be). Mark and Toby Foreman are good people. Sad that they are being attacked before they even get started. And we wonder why people dislike reporters and the media.
Because the UIL says that it is a violation. I think it has to do with the rules on practice days and coaches involvement. If someone has an issue they need to bring it up with them. -

Now that I think about it, how creepy is it for a 'mom and pop's reporter to be following teenage kids around like a 'groupy' and snap secret photos? Those kids are minors. I wonder if those kid's parents consented to that to 'Mr. Creepy photo guy'?
Don't need consent to take photos in the public unless you are selling them.
What if you are posting them on a website that charges people a subscription fee to look at the articles in which the pictures reside? Does he need consent then? What if the kids are minors and someone posts their image and vaguely accuses them of soliciting a prostitute? Does he need consent then? TVC, you're usually a pretty level headed guy, but I cannot believe that you are on Jerry Jordan's side on this one.
I am not on Jerry Jordan's side and have never said or implied that I was. I only said that the thread is about a UIL investigation and instead of asking or commenting on the investigation, most are only speaking about the article itself. I asked on the previous page of posts, if the allegations are true, what are the penalties? If a school is already on some kind of sanctions, can it have any outcome on potential playoffs? Can the penalty be against (only) the coach like banning him from the sidelines for some games? I asked and no one answered, which was my point. Some of the posts went right back to Jerry Jordan. Well I don't care about Jerry Jordan. What is going to happen if these allegations are true? I want to know what may happen in the upcoming season for those two schools or the coaches. Diverting the attention to who sprung the story or what his motivation was seems to me to have absolutely no bearing on the investigation or the potentials for the season at hand. That is about as level headed as I can be. -

Go out there on a real low tide. Then you will have a healthy respect for the hazards and also see where they are.

I guess blame the messenger is in full force. The rule might be stupid but it is the rule. If other coaches are doing it them photo them. I don't know if the coaches violated the rules but they certainly appeared to be doing so. That is why they call it an "investigation" and not a conviction. Maybe they have valid reasons for being there within the rules. Blaming the UIL and the reporter seems lame.
Power hungry grown men following around 7 on 7 teams, taking pictures, seems lame to me. If he was so interested, why didn't he get out of the car and go ask them what they were up to? Staking out high school kids in a hotel parking lot to show that they might have been breaking UIL rules? Are you seriously going to defend that? If they had been selling cocaine, he'd have had a story. This isn't a story.
If there is no story then it should end quickly with no action. I don't need to defend reporters. A reporter is there to get people to read the articles. It sure looks like this one was a success. When there are threads on other internet sites, it looks like he did his job. I notice that people are addressing the reporter and not the title of the thread. It s like I said in my other post, people are deflecting the issue not to the rules but to the person that reported it. Out of curiosity, if it is true, what is the penalty? If a school has already been sanctioned, do they lose any playoffs that year? It is double secret probation? Does the head coach have to not be on the sidelines for the first five games? What happens if the UIL finds that the accusations are true? Do they blame it on the accuser or do they take action? -
Me and my brother recently went to umphrey pier and of the shore of Keith lake, fished live bait and had little to no luck (with the exception of some hard heads). Anyone having better luck anywhere else? P.S we do not have access to a boat
All in timing and conditions. A location might have a bunch of people catching limits in a short time and the next day at the same time have people catching nothing or hardheads.

All that I use out there for that kind of fishing is steel but I use braided steel with nylon coating.

When I go for big reds and sharks, I pull up very close to the jetty wall (outside) and toss dead shrimp for bait. That is not for the reds/sharks but for the small croaker/drum/piggies to catch the reds/sharks. Use a small hook like a size 6 with a small (1/8 or 1/4) weight and a small piece of pealed shrimp. You can actually toss up on a flat rock and drag it back into the water. The small fish are up close. If you get too far out from the jetties, you get into a bunch of hardheads. Stay in close. Then I hook the bait fish either through the lips or pretty far back on the tail. I like it through the lips to keep them alive longer. Toss it out away from the jetty wall and hang on. The last time I took someone out that wanted to catch reds and sharks, in about 3 hours we landed about 8 reds and four sharks. I think we kept three reds for the grill and a couple of sharks. When I pull up close to the jetties, I toss an anchor between a couple of rocks out of the water. That way I can get the anchor back. If you drop an anchor out from the jetty wall, you might see it for the last time. I'll bet there are thousands of anchors out there (of which about 3 are mine). Once you get that anchor out, back away from the wall slowly and then toss a mushroom anchor out the back. Get it far enough away from the wall itself and you likely won't be in the rocks. When I fish that way, I put about a 3 or 4oz sinker directly on the line (let is slide) and then tie a leader and a large hook, like maybe a 5/0. I also sharpen the hooks to a razor sharp edge. I make my own leaders and usually don't make them very long, maybe 24". I crimp the hook to one end and a big barrel swivel to the other. Toss the line out, take up the slack and then set the clicker and leave it on free spool. Then sit back and wait .. many times not for very long.
I went this afternoon and spent time running from rain, but when we fished, it was pretty slow except for the flounder on the shoreline. Tons of bait in the water from Blue Buck and up further north, but not many trout. Gonna be really tough after the front comes through. Think I would go after flounder.
I saw some pictures from a friend who guides on Sabine Lake and he has been running that area. He said that there have been quite a few wade fishermen killing the large trout there lately but the conditions needed to be right. With these last two days of winds and cold front blowing through, it probably won't be a good time to try. I should pick up soon though.
