what type of lures do you all have the best luck with for redfish and speckle trout....i am thinking about going to get a couple of the Paul Brown Corkys...i have heard good things about them
The Paul Brown series (now by MirrOlure) is okay. I don't think brand name matters that much. The Skitter Walk is fairly popular on the coast as well as some people that use something like the Zara Spook for topwaters. I like the Yozuri but also fish the others. I like the action of most Rapala lures in both fresh and saltwater so I like the Skitter Walk but I think the lure companies try to sell the fisherman more than the fish. Those are all hard stick baits. I think the brand is not so important as is the color (at times), what kind of action (top water, slow sink, fast sink) and how the person fishes it. You can have guys fishing side by side with the same baits but with different results by the way they are fishing it. I use a lot of soft plastics also in various forms and colors. At times the color is very critical and other times not so much. I was fishing with bullets13 under the lights last year for specks and he tried some ugly green and black lure that I think he picked up in a garage sale in Montana while on vacation. He got on a roll with that bait and was killing them but neither he nor I could catch them on almost any other lures. Naturally he only had one. I think he tried it a few days later and couldn't get a hit on it. So I believe that the style of the bait and color most of the time is more important than which company makes it.
You're safe in the outfall channel all the way back to the plant but it's been a while since I've gone up there.
It is fairly deep back there if you stay in the channel. I have seen times that you could kill fish in there and times that you couldn't get a bite... which is like most areas. According to which way the tide is moving, sometimes you can catch good fish at the points at the entrance to the canal without having to run back up into it.

Opinions? Yes. Bashing? No. I believe that the owner does want this site to be another smack attack. Sometimes it is simply the way things are worded. I don't think anyone has a problem with a perso saying that Team A was outcoached last night by Team B. That is an opinion. I think that a lot of people might be offended by a comment like, the coach of Team A doesn't know crap about the sport and is a low life piece of &@$#%.
thank you for your response, and you are correct. However, on the league football forum, and others it happens all the time. Heck on the political forum the POTUS get hammered (not that I mind) it just seems to be a double standard on the "softball" forum. I know you and other admins read or patrol most if not all the forums....why are some allowed extremism and others are so sensitive. Perhaps because "softball" is dealing predominately with girls?
If anyone sees a post that seems out of line, use the link at the bottom on the post, "Report to Moderator". Then explain why you or anyone else believes that it is a violation. It will be sent in an email to the mods and it will be looked at. If the moderator feels there is a violation, it will be changed and a warning sent. With thousands of posts a day, many simply are not viewed or just glanced over by the staff. Many of the warning and that are issued start with a notification from a forum member and some result in the violator being banned from the site. As far as the POTUS or other national figures, I don't think they are considered in the rules of no coach/person bashing. If someone wants to dog out the coach of LSU for stupid play calling or saying that he needs to be fired, so be it. Saying the same thing about a local coach or player is not in the same equation, in my opinion. If you start saying that the coach of the XXX HS is stupid and needs to be fired, you are going to be warned, likely have your post deleted and eventually banned if the posts continue.
what are some good spots to fish on the Neches River in Port Neches by boat???
From the park, go toward Beaumont for about a mile and on the opposite bank (Orange County side) and check out Bessie Heights. There is some awesome fishing in there at times but it helps to go with someone that knows and there are plenty of shallows to beware of. You can also run about 6 miles to the east toward Sabine Lake and fish the Entergy outfall canal area or on into the lake, especially around the islands where the shallows drop off into the ship channel. I think some people have started to catch good stringers of specks on the north end if you know how to look for them.
Ok....no response. So ill ask the question more precisely....maybe this will get more attention. Should I say Coach Adkins with Orange Crush why do you play favorites to kids in Orange Co.... Keep in mind I am in no way discussing a high school softball program....strictly concerning select softball.....or yet another question Coach Adkins..of Orange Crush....why do you deceive the public with your "open practice" tactics.....yet another Coach Adkins of Orange Crush....do you do all your business dealing with kids in this same deceitful way......
Maybe rules 15 and 18 will answer your questions. 15) Please do not post unsubstantiated rumors, suspicions or slanderous comments about anyone - this includes non-members of the forums. 18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. This includes issues involving their personal lives, coaching/playing style or performance, past experiences, etc. You appear to be making some kind of distinction on what kind of softball a coach is involved in. It is like there is a difference between bashing a local little league coach or a high school coach where one is acceptable and the other is not. I did not see such a distinction in the rules and do not believe any was intended. Bashing of local coaches, players, refs, etc., is bashing and which particular league the person is in is of no consequence as far as the rules apply.
Are V-hull bayboats safe in the cove...with all the shallow water I was wondering how hazardous this area was for boats
Like westend said, you'd better troll the shallows. According to the tide, some of it might be 6" deep of oyster shell. Don't run into it with your big motor unless you are very sure where you are going. The shallows go well out into the channel that does not require a LA license.
Good information guys....thanks a ton!
You snuck your post in 16 seconds before I answered bullets. 8)

Yes. There is a lot of area that is in the shallows outside of the cove (like you said earlier) but once you cross into it, you need a LA license. That is where we fished was in the channel together (like you said earlier). So to answer vhs's question, that is a very good place to fish and you don't need a LA license as long as you aren't up in the cove. The shallows/shell reef extends a good way out into the channel though and into the common boundary that does not require a LA license.
-
i think "cove" is misleading, because it gets shallow a long way before it actually gets into the actual cove.
This is the lighthouse cove. I believe that anything past the extended lines of the bank are no longer the common boundary waters and subject to a citation from Louisiana if the person does not possess a LA fishing license. Out in the channel itself should be fine but cross that imaginary line that I drew in and you need a LA license. In my opinion........ [IMG][Hidden Content]]
I thought you did.
only if you go all the way back in. not exactly sure how far you can go in, but if you aren't between the two points, you should be good. correct me if i'm wrong here, westend.
Anything past the extended lines of the ship channel is past the points of land. If the coves is legal for a Texas license then the whole thing should be legal until you cross into a canal or bayou that outfalls into the cove.
