;D. ...Seems like everyone is over looking Ec !!! Just the way we like it.
Yeah, I am sure that the opposing coaches check the setxsports poll to see how to play the next team.

When I was fishing for Ops I would always use perch/bream/bluegills. The channel and blue cats will eat almost anything from Zote soap, liver, shrimp, stink bait, cut bait, weiners, etc. I always caught most of my ops up against the banks with individual limb lines and not with trotlines.

SETXsports HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL RANKINGS - PRESEASON
Wouldn't take much into the preseason poll a bunch of the pollsters haven't seen what some of the teams have.
Correct. I would not say "some" of the pollsters though and it is more like most of them. This is a very wide area the polls are taken from and there is not much to go by other than prior history, returning players, hunches or whatever. Even then it is tough when there are no games played yet. Also, let's not forget that polls are nothing more than conversation pieces. This isn't the BCS and the teams don't make the playoffs by what the polls say. A team can be predicted to get last place in their district and get no credit or respect during the season and still go on to win the state championship. To go even farther on your statement, I wouldn't take much into the polls during season other than something to discuss. It obviously works since the polls sure get the comments coming. -

SETXsports HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL RANKINGS - PRESEASON
I can only conclude from looking at the small school side of this poll that SETX Sports expect Warren to finish 5th in 24aa.For a team that finished 2nd last year with a sophomore laiden squad I think this group may be under the radar.
Preseason polls are tough. Get a few games in the first couple of weeks and you will see movement. -
They must pitch 4 innings to be the "pitcher of record" in order to earn the win as a starter.
That is what I thought but a reliever just has to be the pitcher in the inning that the lead was taken and held. So if it is tied going into the last inning and a new pitcher comes on to win that game, that one inning makes him the winning pitcher. The start has to go more than half the game (4 innings) and have the lead and have it held in order to get the win.
The 8pt,7pt, and one doe came from my lease between Buna and Kirbyville, The spike and three other does came from Rock Springs. I'm about to set up some hog traps. Anyone have any preferences on a portable vs corral type trap?
I like the corral type and they are okay if you have the room. Drive in some T-posts and string some hog wire and then stake it down.

I know if I borrow someones car and they inspection sticker is out, they ticket the driver regardless of who owns the car. I would imagine the same thing in a boat. TVC?
Both are responsible. Just like for a vehicle, it is against the law to drive without a license or to allow someone to drive without a license. Of course with a boat, there is no driver's license but there is the registration and it is illegal to use or allow to be used one that is without an up to date registration. I believe this is the controlling statute withe the significant parts highlighted. Sec. 31.021. REQUIRED NUMBERING. (a) Each vessel on the water of this state shall be numbered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter unless specifically exempted. The numbering system shall be in accord with the Federal Boating Act of 1958 and subsequent federal legislation. (b) No person may operate OR give permission for the operation of any vessel or may dock, moor, or store a vessel owned by the person on the water of this state unless: (1) the vessel is numbered as required by this chapter; (2) the certificate of number awarded to the vessel is in full force and effect; and (3) the identifying number set forth in the certificate is properly displayed on each side of the bow of the vessel as required by this chapter.

I thought most of it went to buying wintering grounds in the Canadian prairies where most of the ducks and geese hatch their young.

I thought that is why I have to buy a fed duck stamp... >:( Do you still pay if you have a AHP?
A federal duck stamp has nothing to do with hunting on federal or state property any more then a hunting license gives you permission to hunt on another person's land. Just like a hunting license, it is right to hunt tax and not a permit to be anywhere.

Anyone ever seen the big bore air rifles? I have seen videos of large game animal hunts with them like deer or rams. They have some in the .58 caliber range or maybe larger.

Time for the big sows is coming up and like you said, maybe they aren't going to leave. They might just be hitting the deep water when it is getting cold.
i tried to use it as a attractant but no luck. what about the doe calls that you flip upside down and back? do they work good?
Yes. I have brought deer in with them. It all depends on the mood of the deer and their intent. If they are ready to breed during the rut, some of the scents or noises work well but they are far from guarantees. The area also matter as much as the time. If you are in an area that is heavily populated with does and there is not a lot of competition for them, I think they work less. The natural order of things is the dominant bucks breed the hot does. There is competition for them as there are with all animals. That is why turkeys strut, deer fight, etc. When you have a 6-1 ratio of does to bucks, you will have first year spikes breeding some of the does. There are simply more does than the dominant bucks can breed while fending off lesser bucks. (If there are any dominant bucks. With the new antler restrictions, hopefully some of them will actually grow into mature bucks) Take an area with a 1:1 or a 2:1 ratio and the bucks actually have to dominate an area, rattling horns works great. I have rattled up one very good buck in east Texas. Grunt calls will do the same at times and when the ratio is good. So all of the tricks will work at certain times and in certain areas. It depends on timing, location, the hunter (the best attractant in the world won't help if the deer makes you), the deer herd, etc. As far as the can calls, I have a nice mature buck about five years ago walking about 50 yards from my bow stand. I just saw him as he was walking away. I bleated that can call a couple of times and just sat there quiet and not moving. A few minutes later I heard a limb crack and looked down and the 9 point was standing under my stand. He came right to the sound of that can when he had been walking away.

I think that it helps at certain times as an attractant but not a cover scent.

Most of the bucks are on their beds and smoking a cigarette.

DEER IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS 13 INCH OR GREATER SPREAD
tvc184 replied to GET a HIT #24's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
When people start showing me trail cam or hand taken pictures of 4-5 year old deer that are 150+ pounds, thick neck, large hindquarters, etc., and are consistently less than 13", I will believe that it doesn't work. I was in south Texas two years ago at a bowhunting only day lease and a guy from east Texas killed a 1.5 year old basket rack and pencil horned 8 point. The deer still had perfect teeth with a very thin neck and was obviously a very young deer. The guy had to pay a $500 fine for the underage deer. He swore and was angry that his "mature" deer was an old deer and he had been hunting for umpteen years and could age them and this was obviously a mature blah blah blah. I'll bet that he would be glad to tell you that it was a prime example of mature deer that just won't make the 13" rule. The only thing that it is a prime example of is that he can't age deer on the hoof or even dead for that matter. The 13" is not perfect but the old rule of shooting anything that moved was hardly effective. In lieu of a better way to judge mature deer, the 13" rule is the easiest to visually see and enforce. The obvious best answer is for all hunters to do right thing while managing a deer herd. Can anyone venture to guess what the compliance rate for killing mature deer would be if it is left up to hunters? I think the truth that we routinely kill baby 4 pointers should quickly answer that question. -
DEER IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS 13 INCH OR GREATER SPREAD
tvc184 replied to GET a HIT #24's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The "monster" bucks are also smarter which is how they get to be monsters. A 3.5 year old deer should be right at or greater than the 13" rule. That is the intent of the rule to let them grow up and not kill them at the typical 1.5 year old 4 or 6 point or basket rack 8 point at 2.5 years old. If you put all buck fawns in a pen, in three years all of them will reach maturity or at least as far as the rule goes and each year after with a good growing season should be bigger up until maybe after the 7th year. If the rule has been in place for 4 years, there are a bunch of deer that are now mature that would not have been. They did not disappear off of the earth at 3-5 year old. In fact there are a lot more of them now than there were 2 years ago. A bad year because of the drought or inabiltiy to find them doesn't mean that they aren't out there or that the rule doesn't work. The 13" rule sure didn't make them shrink but yes the deer are smarter at that age and harder to hunt. The older ones don't come waltzing in like does or young bucks. -
