1.
Are V-hull bayboats safe in the cove...with all the shallow water I was wondering how hazardous this area was for boats
Like westend said, you'd better troll the shallows. According to the tide, some of it might be 6" deep of oyster shell. Don't run into it with your big motor unless you are very sure where you are going. The shallows go well out into the channel that does not require a LA license.
 2.
Good information guys....thanks a ton!
You snuck your post in 16 seconds before I answered bullets.  8)
 3. Yes. There is a lot of area that is in the shallows outside of the cove (like you said earlier) but once you cross into it, you need a LA license. That is where we fished was in the channel together (like you said earlier). So to answer vhs's question, that is a very good place to fish and you don't need a LA license as long as you aren't up in the cove. The shallows/shell reef extends a good way out into the channel though and into the common boundary that does not require a LA license.
 4.
i think "cove" is misleading, because it gets shallow a long way before it actually gets into the actual cove.
This is the lighthouse cove. I believe that anything past the extended lines of the bank are no longer the common boundary waters and subject to a citation from Louisiana if the person does not possess a LA fishing license. Out in the channel itself should be fine but cross that imaginary line that I drew in and you need a LA license. In my opinion........ [IMG][Hidden Content]]
I thought you did.
only if you go all the way back in.  not exactly sure how far you can go in, but if you aren't between the two points, you should be good.  correct me if i'm wrong here, westend.
Anything past the extended lines of the ship channel is past the points of land. If the coves is legal for a Texas license then the whole thing should be legal until you cross into a canal or bayou that outfalls into the cove.

 12.
called in and killed my first coyote this week.  pretty neat experience.
Not for the coyote.
 13. The main problem finding fish this week will be how to fish on a lake with 30 mph winds.
 14.
Anyone have any luck using shad in the Neches??? ... I use to run lines on Livingston and we killed'em on shad
I think that if you put it in front of them, they will eat it.
 15.
;D.  ...Seems like everyone is over looking Ec !!! Just the way we like it.
Yeah, I am sure that the opposing coaches check the setxsports poll to see how to play the next team.
 16. When I was fishing for Ops I would always use perch/bream/bluegills. The channel and blue cats will eat almost anything from Zote soap, liver, shrimp, stink bait, cut bait, weiners, etc. I always caught most of my ops up against the banks with individual limb lines and not with trotlines.
 17.
Wouldn't take much into the preseason poll a bunch of the pollsters haven't seen what some of the teams have.
Correct.  I would not say "some" of the pollsters though and it is more like most of them. This is a very wide area the polls are taken from and there is not much to go by other than prior history, returning players, hunches or whatever. Even then it is tough when there are no games played yet. Also, let's not forget that polls are nothing more than conversation pieces. This isn't the BCS and the teams don't make the playoffs by what the polls say. A team can be predicted to get last place in their district and get no credit or respect during the season and still go on to win the state championship. To go even farther on your statement, I wouldn't take much into the polls during season other than something to discuss. It obviously works since the polls sure get the comments coming.
 18. What's wrong with the worms?
 19.
I can only conclude from looking at the small school side of this poll that SETX Sports expect Warren to finish 5th in 24aa.For a team that finished 2nd last year with a sophomore laiden squad I think this group may be under the radar.
Preseason polls are tough. Get a few games in the first couple of weeks and you will see movement.
 20.
They must pitch 4 innings to be the "pitcher of record" in order to earn the win as a starter.
That is what I thought but a reliever just has to be the pitcher in the inning that the lead was taken and held. So if it is tied going into the last inning and a new pitcher comes on to win that game, that one inning makes him the winning pitcher. The start has to go more than half the game (4 innings) and have the lead and have it held in order to get the win.
 21.
The 8pt,7pt, and one doe came from my lease between Buna and Kirbyville,  The spike and three other does came from Rock Springs.  I'm about to set up some hog traps.  Anyone have any preferences on a portable vs corral type trap?
I like the corral type and they are okay if you have the room. Drive in some T-posts and string some hog wire and then stake it down.

I want to run it before I buy, do y'all think the Wardens will understand?
As long as the owner is with you it's not your problem. :D
Hmmm........I'm not 100% sure about that.  I know if I borrow someones car and they inspection sticker is out, they ticket the driver regardless of who owns the car.  I would imagine the same thing in a boat.  TVC?
Both are responsible. Just like for a vehicle, it is against the law to drive without a license or to allow someone to drive without a license. Of course with a boat, there is no driver's license but there is the registration and it is illegal to use or allow to be used one that is without an up to date registration. I believe this is the controlling statute withe the significant parts highlighted. Sec. 31.021.  REQUIRED NUMBERING. (a) Each vessel on the water of this state shall be numbered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter unless specifically exempted. The numbering system shall be in accord with the Federal Boating Act of 1958 and subsequent federal legislation. (b)  No person may operate OR give permission for the operation of any vessel or may dock, moor, or store a vessel owned by the person on the water of this state unless:       (1)  the vessel is numbered as required by this chapter;       (2)  the certificate of number awarded to the vessel is in full force and effect; and       (3)  the identifying number set forth in the certificate is properly displayed on each side of the bow of the vessel as required by this chapter.

 24.
I'm too damned old play football!  LOL.  Need a score keeper? I remember the band playing each other back in the day. That was a lot of fun!
I am thinking maybe instead of full contact, a partial contact (touch anywhere) for the over 55 crowd with a 20 yard field and 5 minute quarters. If anyone scores, the game is over.  ;D
 25.
Me either...... We are actually setting the camera up at different places looking for a "black panther" and /or "black bears" that may or may not be in the area.  He is going to start baiting this weekend
You should have tried Lumberton city hall.
