Got a lease, going to a trophy ranch or what?
-
You are correct but I am a slow learner and it took about 15 years to figure that one out. So now I know.
-
Kids almost always like it better than deer hunting. You actually get to pull the trigger a few times. When I was a teenager and a young adult I used to like squirrel hunting and a lot of duck hunting. Especially duck hunting back when you could kill 10 birds and actually get them most of the time. Now I don't want anything to do with duck hunting and love to deer hunt. I like the peace and quiet of the woods and the less stressful hunting situation. Old age setting in maybe? I don't squirrel hunt anymore but I would prefer the woods to the marsh. You still get the mostly peace and quiet and get to here the gun go bang every once in a while.

The squirrels were out but even they and the coons weren't coming to the corn. The squirrels need to hurry up and grab those acorns for the winter and keep them away from the deer.
-
Not one deer seen. I almost always see does and I would have gladly taken one or two but they were not seen either. Too many acorns. I sat in a ladder stand 17 feet off of the ground for 7 hours this afternoon until dark. I saw several fresh scrapes made last night or early this morning since the rains stopped. Lots of activity in the woods but they just aren't coming to feeders....yet.

The Quad 400 has some serious string issues with several of them exploding. I wish you luck with it. It seems that many of them are coming apart very early afar few shots or even on the first shot. Maybe you got one of the good strings if you haven't had any issues for a couple of months. The Barnett Predator seems like a good package but a bit more expensive.

There are really only a couple of crossbows that I would like to try and they are very expensive. One is the BowTech Stryker and the other is the PSE Tac 15. The Tac 15 shoots off of an AR15 platform and you have to have an AR15 lower. PSE only sells the crossbow AR15 upper. Both run around $1,300. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]

Just curious. There have been some heated debates on the bowhunting forums on crossbows. There is the group that doesn't care as long as they retain the archery only season no matter which kind of bow and then there is the group that believes that crossbows should be banned and are "cheating". To that extent, they believe the woods this year will be filled with buffoons that know nothing about hunting and think that they can simply buy a crossbow and sling an arrow 100 yards and drop a deer at their feeder like they would rifle hunting. Many are outraged that they "have to practice" in order to be able to bowhunt and an xbow can buy one off the shelf, sight it in and go hunting all in one day. I fell on the side of not caring. I think it falls more in the line of jealousy. If I practiced long and hard, you should also. All the while, about half of them gun hunt also so in November, the take out the rifle that they haven't practiced with and will take the same deer that they don't want xbow hunters shooting. As long as the woods are silent from gun shots. I could care less if someone was 400 yards away from me and killing a deer with a recurve, compound or xbow. I won't hear them no matter which bow they are shooting and that is all I care about.

Did you hunt with a traditional bow or compound before this season?

I am not sure that I see them winning another game. -
hey tvc, what do i have to do to set up a ride-along with you? ;D See if you qualify under one of our allowances.

I work every weekend so I will check and see how many vacation days I have left this year. I might have a couple left over. I actually have more than three weeks but some of them I have plans on deer hunting.

From a player on the field, Tyler Smith probably broke a finger. I don't know which hand. -
I guess it then depends on how you define "most".

Like Slam said, school districts, city limits and even US Postal Service routes have nothing to do with each other. I live in Jefferson County outside of any city, live in the Nederland school district and have a Beaumont mailing address. Inside the city limits of Port Arthur for example, there are four school districts. Cities do their thing and school districts do theirs. -
It will certainly be a good test for the Vidor's highly rated offense and Central's highly rated defense. Which is going to give ground?

Still using my compound. I don't have the funds for a new X-bow at the moment or at least not one of the good ones.

I have a trip going to First Point Bowhunting from December 6th through the 9th. I am with two other guys but there is still a fourth slot available. We will go into the ranch on Sunday the 6th at 11:00AM and leave at the same time on Wednesday the 9th. It is a $450 three day hunt (that covers four days) and there are no kill fees. The only rule is that a buck has to be at least 3.5 years old. The ranch provides a room, bathroom with a hot shower, a kitchen and barbq pits. Food, drinks, blankets, pillows, etc., have to be brought by the hunters. You can kill one doe (easy), one trophy buck (not easy), one hog per day of any size and one bearded turkey. It is hard hunting in that you have to set your own blinds or stands. This is a picture of one I watched for a good while last December when I went. This picture was taken from about 10 yards away. I (for some reason) did not take the shot that I should have. It is not a trophy but a very nice deer (at least for what I usually see at my lease). This is another I took the next day of a non-legal First Point buck because he is too young. He might might a decent deer this year if he got enough protein. I aged him at 2.5 years old. He was a bit too big for a yearling but wasn't 3.5 for sure. This is the website for First Point. If anyone is interested, send me a PM and fairly soon. Someone else may snatch it up. No, Arkansas has a Longhorn problem. That is why they let them in the state anymore.

Not too early. They just aren't at their peak yet. There may be some working and you might get lucky and see them. The birds will chase bait that is being chased by fish all summer. It just goes into a frenzy in the fall when the water starts cooling and the shrimp start making their annual trek to the Gulf. It is like the difference in a meal at home and an all you eat buffet. You eat every day but most people pack it in when it is "all you can eat".

I fished in the ship channel near downtown Port Arthur two nights ago. Lots of stuff in the channel but no keep specks. I did see a few 28"-30" reds cruising the surface picking up bait. -
If getting a remedy for anything is the purpose of a thread, we might as well pull down the entire website. I don't know that this very popular site has solved anything. It's all about posting thoughts not finding remedies. Back to the topic that isn't solving anything...... hopefully he will get it together and start putting 'em between the uprights.

Not Coop and not a meteorologist (but have studied a little) and I have been thinking this season was over almost a month ago. I know that technically we could get a storm in November but this season is over. Stick a fork in it, it is done. I know that ruins some people's excitement everytime they see clouds pop up in the Atlantic or the Gulf. (Now a Cat 5 storm will form 200 miles south of Sabine Pass and make landfall, all in less than 48 hours, setting a record ;D )

It's always good for me. I can put you on the spot where I have caught thousands of crabs. Like I said, haven't been since Ike but I know where it was.
