bowfishing pine island bayou??
tvc184 replied to Thatathlete09's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't think a boat is illegal since it is open waterways but I looked up the Big Thicket NP website. This is their frequently asked questions page. It says there is no charge for hunting or fishing in the preserve so I am assuming that if you comply with state laws, you are okay. [Hidden Content] This is from that website. Q – What’s the charge for entering the preserve, hiking a trail, or going backcountry camping? A – There is no charge for any activity in the preserve, including hunting and fishing. -
Which statement? The one where she was clueless or the one where she had heard about it but had not been briefed or the one where she had been briefed by a staffer or the one where she knew what "may" be done but thought nothing of it and the CIA then lied to her because there is no way that she would have known. Of course, Obama's head of the CIA, Clinton Chief of Staff Leon Panetta, came out and said they have documentation that she knew and that there was no cover up by the CIA. I suppose that only Nancy told the truth and everyone is just against her, including the Obama administration. :

That is something that many (or more likely, most) Texans don't understand about our legislative process. They only meet two once every other year and it is only for 140 days. That means that they have less than 4 months once every two years to make laws unless the governor calls a special session in case of an emergency. Legislators (House members and Senators) can file any bill or resolution that they want but it has to be in (I think) by the 90th day of the session. There are literally thousands of bills proposed and very few days to act on them. I hear a few people saying things like, my senator is filing a bill to get this taken care of. Well that may be true but the odds are that the bill will never even be heard in a committee. If it does get to be heard in the committee, it likely won't get out of the committee. If it gets out of the committee, it will then have a "chance" at passing on the floor. Then it has to go the other house for the same action. Then if there are any amendments in either version, they have to go through a compromise version that both houses accept and then it has to go back to the floor of both houses for a final vote. If it happens to pass that, it goes to the governor for a signature, veto or no action and hoping to beat the 10 day deadline for automatic passing. Assuming it gets past all of that, you pet bill will become law. Good luck but don't hold your breath. Not that anyone really cares about the process and I suppose that most would rather remain clueless. It does however say why there are always thousands of bills left to die without any action taken on them. Fortunately in my opinion, by meeting only once every two years and only having four months to take action, it weeds out a lot of the nonsene that many states with permanent or full time legislators face. They are always debating the hot story of the day instead of simply staying out of people's business. So that people don't think that Texas can take action if needed between sessions, the governor can call them back into session for an emergency if he feels that something needs to be passed quickly however it can be for a single purpose and he can't simply continue to call new sessions. Special sessions are rarely called as there are very few occasions where something can't wait for a pet project for another two years or less.

I think that you are okay as long as it is not game fish (Bass for example) or unless that law pending in the legislature passes about limiting bowfishing to one gar per day. I forgot what the outcome of that proposal was. -

Not much of it was Obama's fault when he was in the Senate. He never showed up to vote. -

Yeah, let's bring up the Clinton years. He led a pretty decent economy.... which coincided with the first Republican controlled Congress in 40 years. Clinton could sign nothing that a Republican Congress did not send him. Bush continued with that even with a slight recession at the end of Clinton's term and then the big financial hit of 9-11. After that, Bush and the Republican Congress again led the strong rally and the stock markets reached all-time record highs...... UNTIL... the Democrats took over Congress two and half years ago. Then it all came crashing down again. Remember, just like Clinton with the Republican Congress, Bush could not sign anything into law that a completely Democratic Congress didn't send him. That's right DV. The first Republican Congress in 40 years led to the highest stock market rate and one of the best economies in history. I suppose you will conveniently dismiss that the biggest growth in history came under 12 years of a completely Republican controlled Congress. It continued until... well, until the Democrats took over Congress two years ago. You do remember two years ago when the Republicans lost control. The crashing of the banking system and then the bailouts came from a completely Democrat controlled Congress. I'll guess that you didn't watch the congressional video that I posted from three years ago where the Republicans in open session of a committee said that the banking industry and in particular Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were in trouble. Barney Frank (D Chairman) and Maxine Waters (D Bimbo) praised the fine job that the manager of the two were doing. They were reported to be financially sound and it was nothing but Republican fear tactics. Oops, the Republicans were right three years ago when they said it was in trouble. The Democrats ignored what they were being told and the Kool-Aid Democrats were all too ready to claim that the Republicans were just using fear tactics. No way it could fail. Then when it did fail, they ignore the prior warnings like they were never told... except it is all on video... which I am sure the Democrats will ignore also. I am sure that DV will have a very sound and highly thought out response like an "Oh yeah!!" or a "Says you!!". -
Two of my favorite sayings after a game from the losing side.... 1. "You have to give the other team credit though..." 2. "I'm not taking anything away from them" Translated to mean, "Gee, I thought we were supposed to win but my more talented team lost". LCM showed that the definition of "team" is last night. They didn't boot the balls at a bad time and they put the ball into play when needed. Way to go, LCM. Let the 'team' keep playing "team ball"...... but I'm not talking anything away from Crosby.

I like to call these kinds of people, sheeple. You can hear them go "baaaa, baaaa...." everytime they come out of the house. They are waiting for the shepherd (federal government) to come get them together in a flock so they can do as they are told like sheep. When it comes to self defense, they (like the sheep) wait for the protection of the sheep dog or in the sheeple's case, the government in the form of the police. The sheeple for the moment have the upper hand. The government is going to bail them out, the government is going to individually protect them, the government is going to provide housing, the government is going to tell companies how to sell products to them and it will all be okay. Until......... the bills come rolling in, which may not be very long from now. There is already some trouble brewing with America's bond standing in the world due to its massive debt that was just incurred from the "stimulus" package. We will soon have taxes on every drink, each bullet, every glass of water, every piece of candy.... but income taxes won't be raise right, so it won't be a tax on the middle class. Anyone that believes that, repeat after me..... Baaaa, Baaaaa, Baaaa, ......... I guess the sheeple believe that. It will all come crashing down soon enough. Obama has within four months figured out that he can't release the pictures that he claimed that he would. He has also figured out that he can't release the Gitmo detainees like he claimed that he would. So has he become a conservative in some areas or is it that he has learned that once he got into the job, he has found it is easy to criticize from the outside when you don't have the same facts to look at. Carter made the same mistake in 1977 when he took office. The world isn't the same as it appeared from Plains, GA. Probably like Obama though, he stubbornly stuck to his economic policies and left office with one of the worst economies that this country has ever seen with high unemployment (the highest since the Great Depression until this month), way higher interest rates (prime interest rate reached 21% in 1980 from the Carter economy) and much higher inflation (13.5% in 1980) with a Democratic Congress and President. Unfortunately, I am sure that we are in for the same deal in this administration. Baaaa..... Baaaaa .... Obaaaaaamaaaaa..... Obaaaaaamaaaaa...... -

But other than that...... : -
From the article (assuming the article is correct), the coach for Hallsville still thinks that he is within the rules. His claim is that it is according to the interpretation of the rules. If it is that close of an issue, I don't know if it is "cheating", even if the district committee turns out to be correct in their ruling. One of my old bosses described it as two ways to make a mistake. There are mistakes of the head and mistakes of the heart. A mistake of the head is one where you just didn't know the answer, even if you should have. It was an education or a judgment error. A mistake of the heart is where you knew fully well that you are breaking the rules and said to heck with it, I am doing it anyway. Was this a mistake of the head or a mistake of the heart?

Amen! Though I will have my 9mm on my hip for "close encounters". ;D 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, a big knife....whatever. ;D

When we used to hold department fishing tournaments at work, we had a spring tournament and a fall tournament. The fall tournament was in September or October so as not to interfere too much with hunting season. Even then there is Teal hunting in September but probably not a lot of duck hunters in here. There is archery and squirrel season in October but again, probably not too many. The November generally deer season takes away most people so as long as it is before then, a fall tournament might not be a bad idea. I am open for either. I can go for the May 30th date but I need to know fairly quickly so I can take a vacation day. I can take vacation any time that I want as long as I can find a replacement and the sooner, the better.

Silsbee Cheerleader assault case leads to federal lawsuit
tvc184 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I thought that no one was indicted. There may have been physical evidence but that alone means nothing in many cases. Simply saying that it happened doesn't mean how it happened. -
I think that is most of it. The other issues were excuses to oppose the bond but had it not been for the stadium issues, those other "excuses" would have fallen by the wayside. The economy wasn't the major issue. Had this bond come up a year ago the same result would have happened. From my understanding the stadium was like 4% or less of the bond proposal. So if a person's home taxes went up $500 a year, that is only $20 a year on the stadium or less than $2 a month. Is that why it was rejected... for $2 a month? Quadruple the taxes to an additional $2,000 per year that still comes to about $7 per month extra in taxes due the stadium. Nope, it wasn't the economy and it wasn't the condition of the schools. It was the anti-stadium crowd that tried every excuse they could find to keep the bond from passing for a single issue. Obviously they had a great plan.

I agree 100%. My post was to show the folly of naming people that are more qualified than Palin. There are obviously people more qualified than she or Obama but that is not the issue. Obama made his case and he won. The discussion of who is more qualified doesn't enter into it. It is popularity or as you say, Obama won by the Good Ol' Boy system. I can live with that. -
I think just as some of us bring up racial issues there is an opposing side who are in denial about how race affects our society. Just the fact that you have students in this area who have never had contact with kids from other races until they enter college still is hard for me to imagine. Bridge City, Lumberton, Vidor, etc. Race is real! Race denial is real too! With 300 million people in this country, race will always be a factor. That is simply because no one can control the thoughts of someone else. There are always those that will hate or be prejudiced no matter the circumstances. I "think" what bullets is trying to say is that no matter what the incident and short of any facts to the contrary, race will be brought into play. In the Lumberton case, is there any proof or even accusations of racial problems with Lumberton PD other than this case? If so, why haven't we seen them? QX even wants to hold the meeting in Silsbee to solicit such information. I have no problem with that but apparently he doesn't have any evidence of it at this moment so is going outside of Lumberton to try and find the evidence he seeks. Again, no problem with his lawful attempt but he had no problem spitting out racial problems with Lumberton PD without any of that evidence. Should he have looked for the evidence of racism first maybe? Get at least some facts on your side or do like he did, make an accusation and then scramble for evidence of it to make it look like you weren't just using race. That is the problem I have (and I think bullets) is that he made the statement as fact and now has to try to find some "facts" to back it up. You are correct that if anyone denies that racism or racial prejudice exists then they are idiots. Acknowledging that is exists and "may" be a factor is way different than spitting out race instantly and then hoping that you can find some means to back up the statement. It sure seems to be that with the Laday case. Let's claim racism and murder and hope like heck we can back it up later with some facts. If it was anything other than QX complaining about the cops, it wuld be slander and he would be in court in a heartbeat. Look into it? By all means. That is not what QX did however. It seems like before daylight he was already spitting out his diatribe about Lumberton PD specifically and white law enforcement in general. Could he have asked around and maybe waited a day or two to find out if any of the area residents have had problems with LPD? Could have used freedom of information requests to see what kinds of complaints have been filed against the officers? Could he have waited one day until the preliminary autopsy was performed? He certainly should have. QX made his serious accusations and is now trying to gain evidence after the fact to justify his statements. Therein lies the problem with the instant accusations of racism. Sure it exists but every single incident between a white person and black person is not based on racial prejudice.

If "qualifications" was an issue, then Obama would not be the president. I am not knocking his win nor failing to acknowledge that he is the fair and square winner. Being elected doesn't mean that someone is the "most qualified" but someone that hopefully more people agree with on opinions. There were certainly way more "qualified" candidates that were Democrats than Obama. They had their shot and lost. So did the GOP in the general election. Does not being as qualified as some other person negate the winner's legitimacy or the fact that the person ran on a ticket? If so, we need to stop selecting our party nominees by primaries and caucuses and appoint a blue ribbon panel to list the people according to "qualifications". In the name of objectivity, we could even scale it by giving points for such things as: 1. Prior Senate/House experience. 2. Prior state level experience. 3. Cabinet experience. 4. Committee chairmanship experience. 5. College Degree(s). 6. Etc. That way we could get the "most qualified" candidate and not simply the most popular.
