Well when you take into consideration that more than half of the district will get into the playoffs, it ain't that big of an accomplishment. Winning district or runner up is the only thing to boast anymore. And as far as most are concerned the playoffs don't really start now until after bi-district. You are correct but I was only responding to the "spoiler" statement made by KHS. A team isn't a spoiler if they make the playoffs themselves and I thought it was a bit premature to cut Vidor out of the hunt for a spot.

A person can buy a ticket and be arrested for trespassing the moment they walk through the gate or even standing in line to get the ticket. A football ticket doesn't override state law.

i truly believe that central will pull through against nederland, call it gut instinct, but i think it will be central sittin on top of 20-4a this year That doesn't seem that far fetched. Central has had Nederland's number a couple of times in the past when I thought Nederland would have won. It seems like they save their best game of the year for the Bulldogs.

Interesting perspective. If it was my kid and the pricipal told him to put his shirt on, and he didn't, he wouldn't have to worry about the school consequences. You are correct and I think the lack of what you are talking about is part of the problem. It doesn't matter if the principal made a bad decision or was making a mountain out of anything. When the person in charges makes a decision, then that is the law, the rules or whatever you want to call it. It is not a democratic process.

Sure there is a rule. A school official walked up and told the students to cover up. They have that authority on their property. The school officials can go as far as having offenders arrested for trespassing if they fail to leave when asked. I have seen that in person. I don't see a problem with no shirts and think the principal is being too strict but when told to comply or leave, the students made their choice. TEXAS EDUCATION CODE § 37.107. TRESPASS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. An unauthorized person who trespasses on the grounds of any school district of this state commits an offense. An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor. I've seen several people, including students from that particular school, arrested for trespassing on your "public property".

All rules are subjective to the rule maker's opinion. That goes whether they are written or oral. Oral rules are still rules. If they were kicked out without a warning for something that was previously acceptable then they would have a valid complaint. When a person in charge tells you something, then that is the rule in that situation. It is not open for debate if the person in charge doesn't want to. These kids were not standing up for a principle. They were openly violating a rule that was told to them and then they were given a chance to comply without penalty. They chose to knowingly ignore the rule and then got penalized. Go figure.

Why not? You can't schedule all of the games home/away/home/away. Nederland plays 7 district games and 4 are on the road this year. Next year 4 games in district will be at home. As Walter Cronkite used to say, "And that's the way it is".

I don't care one way or the other. I don't think the students have a complaint however about being put out of the game. There seems to be different versions of the events but there seems to be one that is not in dispute. They were given a warning before they were tossed out. I have a problem with students not following rules whether they like the rules or not. If a school official tells you something you don't like, oh well. Follow the rules and file a grievance later. Get the parents to go in front of the school board. I have no problem with appeals or grievances. There is a time and place to fight a rule or regulation and they chose the wrong venue.

Pretty much, with the exception of a team that has been struggling for a couple of years now. Even they have the chance to play a good game and shock someone. I think a lot of PNG fans (not the players) fell into the trap of beating up on LCM and thinking that meant they were ready to take on all comers. This district is full of traps just waiting to be sprung.

I have a feeling that Central, Vidor and Lumberton may have a different take on that. Even though a rivalry game, I don't think PNG put up the best fight that we will see. Maybe on another day they might have but not that night. I hope that you are correct but I don't believe it.

The Load

This is beyond silly. You can't even have a toy gun without offending someone now. It takes about half a brain to see this as a skit that has no evil intent. Apparently they have a few student protesters that are future members of PETA.

Maybe it is how you look at or use words. I think stating a reason is not making an excuse. To say that another team kicked our butts or that the other team had better play calling or we didn't execute is not making an excuse. I know that by definition, excuse and reason is roughly the same. In my opinion however, when I hear someone trying to make an excuse, it implies whining. It is like saying that if the refs hadn't blown that call or if the other team didn't cheat or maybe the refs let the other team get away with the that they called on us. That is making an excuse in my opinion. Anytime someone loses in any game there is a reason for it. Stating the reasons is different than making excuses. Obviously other people have a different view on how words are used.

It seems like on the Lumberton/Vidor threads, there has been a lot of talk from some Lumberton fans about all kinds of reasons for the loss. I haven't seen much of anything from the PNG people. Most of theirs is, we got our butts whipped and I wish the coach would have done something different. If the PNG fans are complaining, I must have missed it.

The refs blew the holding/unsportsmanlike call. PNG got robbed of a down when Nederland declined the holding call. As far as hitting the receiver on the supposed fair catch, I never saw a fair catch signal and I was right in front of where he received the ball. I never saw his hand go clearly above his head and start waving side to side. If that was claimed to be a fair catch, either the receiver doesn't know how to signal it or he was trying to get away with one.

You bet. We have been very busy censoring these boards this weekend. Hopefully it will slow down a bit until next weekend.

Yep. This is the kind of games that scare me the most. I know which teams is better but so does everyone else.... including the players for both teams. LCM would like nothing more than to knock down the team that knocked them out of the playoffs a couple of years ago in their stadium.

Maybe the cheerleaders.

This is the schedule for week 10 in 20-4A. Beaumont Central at Port Neches-Groves Beaumont Ozen at Little Cypress-Mauriceville Vidor at Livingston Lumberton at Nederland I am going to guess that the LCM/Ozen game will be meaningless in the standings but the other three games have playoff implications. It might be a wild night to finish the district.
