  1. That's the great thing about this time of the year. Everyone has high hopes.
  2. A pretty good price that is insane?
  3. I have been doing similar to that for years with Speck filets and it is quick and good. About the only thing difference that I see is that I didn't use jalepeños but that is a good thought.
  4. But way too much work.
  5. It is according to what range. From maybe 200 yards and in, the most common are something like: .243 30-30 30-06 .308 .270 7mm-08 There are plenty of other good and popular ones like the .222, .223 .280, 25-06, 6mm Rem and 45-70. Toss in the short mags and the exotics............
  6. Betcha' ever last one of them has a cell phone... No kidding. They all probably pay $50 or more a month to text each other. While I don't think it is a great idea, it is one that is probably coming to a school near you. Schools are not a business per se. They do not sell a product and it is their job to educate, not let kids have fun in their favorite sport(s). Schools can drop extracurricular activities without any problems.
  7. Until you fill up twice going back home.
  8. Then why start off saying it is a real head scratcher? One entity is responsible for one and another entity is responsible for the other. I'll bet if you read a news magazine you can find contradicting articles on current events. I surely don't see any need for head scratching but if you need to, scratch away.
  9. I guess the analogy whooshed right past you. You just said the same thing that I did in a different way. I never mentioned any individuals opinions. Padilla apparently did the top 25 rankings and someone else did the finalists. It's not rocket science.
  10. The predictions on state titles are not from the Padilla poll. It is like having a setxsports.com rankings in this area as speculated by the admin but some knowledgeable person on here predicting that the #5 team would likely beat the #1 team that the admin has ranked. Put it another way, if I am predicting the state title, I don't have to use the Padilla poll. Padilla does a poll and I have my opinion so it is easy for my opinion to differ from his opinion on rankings. DCTF just happens to have a poll from a different person(s) than the person(s) that are guessing at the state titles. And as always, it is just for discussion purposes. 8)
  11. Has to be some kind of addiction or financial problem. Maybe it's gambling, dope or maybe he was having credit problems. My bet is on gambling. If he was on some kind of drugs, it would have shown in other ways. Who can tell but there was some kind of problem.
  12. I bought a Savage .223 Model 11 with Accu-Trigger a couple of months ago and a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 scope to go on it. I just got around to sighting it in two weekends ago. I shot some 62 grain Federal Tactical Bonded soft points in it at 50 yards (our 100 yard range was being used by someone else) and set it at 1½" high at that range . On a table but without a rest, I was shooting ¼" groups. Even with my limited skills, I think I would pop some varmints with it.
  13. Coop, I notice that put this in Hunting and not the Locker Room. Suggesting that we kill it maybe? ;D
  14. Central is rated a bit high but they can't get them all correct. You must work for the Beaumont 'Suprise' with a comment like that! They never show us any love! I just wanted to see if I could get a rise out of Jags. Apparently not. ;D
  15. Central is rated a bit high but they can't get them all correct.
  16. It's the Hamshire Falcons and the Fannett Longhorns. They got too big and split into two schools for next year.
  17. I think everyone knows that the more sports you play, the more skills you develop. That is not any issue. So what is the issue? It is not a skills issue but an injury issue. The more sports you play, the more chances to get hurt. I don't think there is anyone with half a brain that doesn't know the more things you do, the more skills you develop.
  18. Yeah, I don't buy the complaint of money spent. Put a kid in a one room schoolhouse with a volunteer teacher that is willing to teach and a student that is willing to learn and all that is needed is a Big Chief tablet and a #2 lead pencil. There is no need for computers, air conditioned school houses, separate boys and girls gyms, etc. Those are all nice things to have but we managed to put people on the moon without them.
  19. I think everyone knows that the more sports you play, the more skills you develop. That is not any issue.
  20. What percentage of athletes get scholarships? Out of the ones that do, how many lose that chance due to an injury? If a student is such a stud player that a scholarship is almost impossible to miss and if he/she decides to play that one sport then I am all for him/her. Go for it. For the other 97% that want to play other sports, go for it. Either way, I would support what the student wants to do.
  21. I would encourage a student to play only one sport when they start paying them for their service. Otherwise, play all they want. It sounds like some people want to make them a professional class athlete or are trying to live vicariously through the student. Let the the kids have fun in as much as they wish. I think that any parent that requires their child to play one sport is doing a poor job of parenting. It may be their right but that doesn't make it correct.
  22. why wouldn't you? I wouldn't. As far as any real information or predictions, the magazine is fairly lame. Not bad to kill some time and it has a certain mystique about it that sort of brings in the yearly high school (and somewhat college) football season. As Kelly says, it gives something that can be read about football..... but I won't spend my money on it. I will pick up someone else's copy and read the local predictions or maybe just read them when they are posted on this forum. ;D
  23. But they were axed for minimum academic standards which I am going to guess is talking about TAKS. TAKS is based on percentage of pass/fail, not the number of dropouts. If 500 students take the test and 250 of them fail, then it is a 50% passing percentage. It doesn't matter if 300 students dropped out that didn't take the test. If that is true, then the district's TAKS rating is probably better off with the dropouts. I would bet that a large percentage of the dropouts would not have passed anyway. It would increase their failure rate if those students stayed in school and failed the tests.
  24. I have been wondering about what the high gas prices and the cost of feed will do to the deer leases and especially the trophy leases. I suspect a lot of people will be giving up their leases next year. Of course, if there is someone to step up and take their place, it won't change anything. I was hoping that maybe enough people would not be able to afford the leases due to supplemental costs and the prices would drop somewhat. I guess that is wishful thinking.
  25. WHAT? You don't want snapper that costs you about $45 a pound?
