  1. Great stuff outlaw. Nothing more to add to that.
  2. Ah yes, the discussion of rights. A coach has every right to tell his players anything that he wants as long as he does not break the law. The players also have the right to not pay attention to the coach. It is their right to come and go as they please. The coach however has the right to kick them off of the team at his discretion. It may not the correct thing to do but he certainly isn't violating any laws or anyone's rights by doing so. The school board or superintendent (whoever makes the decisions) has the right to terminate the coach or reassign him if he is not performing up to their standard. The belief that a coach has no rights over his players is totally incorrect. Up until he breaks the law or violates the rules and trust of the people that hired him, he can run his team as he sees fit and that includes making any rules that he wishes. I am not speaking of the coach in question on this thread but any coach. He can make all of the arbitrary rules that he wants as long as no laws are broken or school rules are violated. If the school board feels that a coach is being unfair in his treatment of players, they can replace him.
  3. Sounds like a challenge. If you accidentally fall overboard, the fish can return the favor. Adds a bit of excitement to the trip to know the fish can have you for lunch if you make a mistake.
  4. .......... with a flyrod.
  5. The geese aren't gone from the shooting. You can't kill enough of those things. The hunters just needed to find out what part of the area they are/were feeding in. But alas, they will be back by the millions next season.
  6. Unless that is the part you like about being in a deer blind. They are totally different kinds of hunting. One is more like fishing with a few guys in a boat, almost party time. You can talk, laugh and cut up a bit. Like fishing, there is usually a lot more action. The other is mostly peace and quiet, especially in the east Texas woods (except opening day). It's all according to what you want. When I was younger, I loved duck and goose hunting. I sure didn't want to sit still and probably not get that one shot I was looking for. I wanted to go out for a couple of hours and blast a box of shells. The fact that it could be done at live targets instead of clay pigeons was just a bonus. Been there, done that and killed hundreds of ducks and geese. A few years ago, if I didn't pull the trigger at least 20 times a hunt, I was disappointed. Now I enjoy being able to go out alone and sit in the stand and watch nature. I have a good lease so I will get my shooting in and still enjoy the sport. Both are great sports. It just depends on what you want out of hunting.
  7. K-Mart's Sharp brand. I was thinking of the current "no K-Mart" era on that last sentence. ;D Therein lies one of the problems on south Texas hunting. The roundtrip to fill the feeders is expensive, especially now. You might end up spending more on fuel than for the lease.
  8. BISD? Don't tell me that they could have missed something. I thought the admin over there was the model school district.
  9. The best knife that I ever had was a K-Mart Sharp brand knife. I could get it sharper than any other knife I had before or since and it would really hold an edge. I know that K-Mart doesn't have a knife factory so it was obviously made by a knife maker under contract. I am curious as to who it was. The best thing about it was that it cost $10 new. I kept it for several years and finally lost it. I have had many high dollar brand name knives and most of them were very good but I have never found one that could outperform that old Sharp knife. It was probably made by Gerber, Puma or some other well known knife company and the same blade with their name on it probably ran about $30 way back then but the same knife without their name on it was $10 retail at Wal-Mart.
  10. Yeah, right! Anyone that believes that, I have the Brooklyn Bridge for sale.... cheap.
  11. But Hooks would look funny being all the way out on the field by the hash marks arguing with a robot.
  12. What is funny or sad about football fans worrying about losing their coach? I wonder if the people in Newton will be unconcerned if Coach Barbay decides to drag up one day. I guess that WO-S fans really don't care about Dan Hooks one way or the other and certainly aren't worried about having to look for his replacement. Realistically, the WO-S fans will and have burned up the boards when a favorite assistant coach is either leaving or returning. Boy, they must be goofy over there at WO-S, right? That is just the nature of sports. If you have a successful coach, you are worried about him leaving. If you have a coach that is not so successful, you worry that he will not leave. Neumann has been more successful than any other coach in Nederland history in terms of wins and winning seasons. Nederland has a great record with Neumann whether you include playoffs or not. In his 15 years of coaching the Bulldogs, Neumann has not had a losing season. That is a great accomplishment for any coach that has nothing to do with 2 or 3 teams making the playoffs.
  13. That is some prime flyfishing chances there.
  14. He jumped up when he broke his wrist and looked like he was going to stay in the game and didn't want to leave the floor but you could see the pain was getting to him and he was pulled.
  15. That's big even for a rottweiler. I have a 10 pound chihuahua that believes she can take on the rott.
  16. It was a very close game. The final score was true to the game and not like some games where a team is up by 12 with a couple of minutes left and then coasts. Gamble had the lead and then lost it at the end. Tremaine Thomas had a shot from 20 feet to put it in overtime at the buzzer but it rimmed out. EDIT: I saw Tremaine Thomas for the first time in any sport tonight. He was giving up about 4-5 inches on most of the people he was up against and did great. Thomas was very physical inside but wasn't mugging people, just playing tough. He played a very good ball game and hit some key buckets. Great stuff. I can see why he was getting the recognition the last couple of years in more than one sport.
  17. There are many brands of very good pocket knives. I have probably owned 10 different brands over the years and have not had any problems with the brand name knives. I have no favorites per se but buy them due to the size, shape and features, not by the name on the side of the knife. I currently carry a Camillus (subject to change at a moment's notice) but I have carried and been equally happy with Frost, Spyderco, Case, Buck, Kershaw, Ka-Bar, Ontario, Smith & Wesson, Beretta and Schrade. There are other brands that I own or have owned that I do not carry everyday but have on hand for hunting/fishing or other activities. Lately I have been carrying the fast opening knives such as the Kershaw Leek, Gerber F.A.S.T. and the Camillus Blaze.
  18. Not a whole lot of ice fishing going on in southeast Texas but if you can find some in the area, I would be willing to try it out. Until then, it is specks, reds, flounder, sharks..................
  19. Does anyone see anything wrong with intentional walks? To me it is just part of strategy to set up the force play and has been around for 100 years. Or are you talking about just issuing the pass instead of making the pitcher actually throw the ball?
  20. Thanks. I get sarcastic on here and go for the dry sense of humor and it is surprising how many people miss it. It seems fairly easy to spot for me... maybe since I do the same thing to make a point. ;D
  21. Oh yeah, and good luck Hussey. Give Lumberton something to cheer about.
  22. you feel stupid yet? notice, your the only one trashing them. For one, Lumberton plays as a team, our goals aren't to get 5 guys to the next level like ozen and central. we play as a TEAM, therefore, we MIGHT only have 1 or 2 each year.. if that. And TWO, there is only so much a coach can do, he just doesn't have D1 size, and he knows that.. I don't think Penny is trashing them at all. I think it was a swipe at the people that blame Nederland's coaches for not getting their players better scholarships. There has been much said on this site about how much the coaches are the ones to get the scholarships more than the ability of the players with particular attention to Nederland coaches. In a dry sense of humor way, Penny was making the point how stupid that argument is. I guess it went over everyone's head. Then again, I could be wrong............
  23. Fish deep and slow.... unless it really warms up.
  24. The only time that I have caught a speck over 6 pounds it was on that reef late in February.
