  1. Right. The parents that allow their kids to drink are the responsible ones and their kids don't get in trouble. If you believe that, I still have the London Bridge for sale......... I believe that children are going to learn most of what they are taught but they are also going to push the limit in some areas. Go for it, just be prepared to pay the price when you get caught. If getting arrested will get you kicked off the team and you are willing to risk that penalty , then drink away. Just don't complain and have mommy and daddy threaten to sue when you get caught.
  2. The problem is, when I am on the stand for opening day of gun season, it will probably be in short pants, a t-shirt and flip-flops.
  3. It makes me feel like going to football games.... and hunting.
  4. That is laughable or at least it would be if it wasn't such a serious subject. Teaching a child how to drink responsibly? There is nothing responsible in teaching a child how to drink. Jhsbulldogs solution to the drug problem? Teach them to drink responsibly instead.
  5. Good thing this isn't for the district track meet then. Brenham was too big and fast. Central and Ozen were too fast for Nederland also. If all you had to do to win a football game was to be faster, why not just line up each position at the goal line and do a 100 yard dash. The winner of a majority of the races wins the game.
  6. Opinions are a dime a dozen, no matter how silly they seem.

  8. How is it racist? A black guy that is criticizing some current black athletes for the way he perceives their antics is hardly racism. That is just an opinion. If he would have said that all blacks are stupid or all blacks bring the game down, then you could say it was racist. He brought up who he thought was great black athletes by the way they carried themselves and the way they protested. He looks up to the way they acted. Is that racist? He then brought up other black athletes, mentioned their stupid behavior and said that is why he didn't like them. Racism? Just because race is mentioned in an opinion does not automatically mean that it is racism. Everyone has the right to agree or disagree with Whitlock's opinion but don't try to make it more than that, just an opinion. I don't think the guy is a racist.
  9. I can't remember exactly what year it was but I think WO-S was knocked out of the playoffs one year like that. Nederland would have lost on the point spread and there was some controversy over the method but the district board stuck with head-to-head first. What happened (if I remember correctly) was that Nederland, WO-S and another school (PN-G?) were tied at 6-2 in district and tied for second place. Nederland had beaten both other schools but had been upset by another team (much like Vidor last year) that wasn't in the playoff picture. If it went purely by point spread, Nederland would have stayed home BUT, having beaten both other schools they were tied with, they were awarded the first spot. That left the other two teams and since it was just two teams now, it was again head-to-head. Maybe someone from WO-S can remember how it went down. I think it was them as the odd man out.
  10. I know that it is head-to-head first, but...... The largest school, no matter what position they are in, is the Division 1 champion. Since they would no longer be in the mix, there would only be two other teams tied at 6-1. Then it would be head-to-head, correct? There would be no need for a point spread in that case. If one team wins the outright district championship and three teams are tied at 5-2, then point spread would determine which two went and which stayed home.
  11. There are basically 4 teams playing for three spots. Lumberton has sure made it interesting. Normally if PN-G, Nederland and Dayton were all at 3-1 or 4-0, you would think that they just about have the playoffs locked. The Raiders have thrown a wrench into the spokes.
  12. Anything can happen. In 1969 Nederland started off 6-0 with 5 shutouts. They had outscored their opponents 161-14. They were 2-0 in district with a combined score of 69-0. They lost the next two weeks to PN-G by 1 and Lincoln by 2. They got right back on track against Orange Stark 40-0. How could a team win 7 of their first 9 games by a combine 201-14 with 6 shutouts and lose? Stranger things have happened in high school football than PN-G losing a couple of games. It isn't likely but they haven't played the games yet. I don't think Dayton and Central are going to be pushovers but time will tell.
  13. All that I was addressing is Lamar1996's statement that if PN-G beats Vidor, they are in the playoffs. That is not true. It is very likely since a series of events must take place for PN-G to not make the playoffs but it is still possible for them to miss the playoffs while being tied for second place.
  14. ..... and Nederland does not lose another game. If PN-G wins one game and Nederland loses any game, then PN-G is in the playoffs. If PN-G wins any two, they are in the playoffs.
  15. Whitlock writes a lot of interesting articles.
  16. Yes. It probably will not end up in the tie breaker but it could. I bet that if Burnett knew about that, he might have at least opted for a field goal.
  17. Not so fast. Nederland has games with Lumberton and Dayton. PN-G has a game with Dayton. If Nederland wins out, they go 6-1. That makes Lumberton 5-2 (losses to Nederland and PN-G) if they win the other two games. Dayton will also be 5-2 (losses to Lumberton and Nederland) if the beat Central and PN-G. If PN-G loses to Dayton and Central, they are 5-2. In that scenario, Nederland is the district champion at 6-1 and Dayton, PN-G and Lumberton are all 5-2. Since none of the teams will have beaten both others (so no head-to-head), it will go by point spread. PN-G is +7 at the moment with the win over Lumberton. Dayton is -1 with the loss to Lumberton. Lumberton is -6 with the win over Dayton (+1) and the loss from PN-G (-7). If Dayton beats PN-G by 14 or more, PN-G is left at home in 4th place. All of that is out the window if Nederland loses a single game or PN-G beats either Dayton or Central.
  18. The UIL doesn't determine the district championships in a tie, the district rules committee does. The UIL has no part in the mix. They just set the playoffs.
  19. Close but not quite.

  21. Okay. I am not saying that it wasn't an illegal hit but I wasn't going to accuse someone of something that I didn't see. Maybe I should have said... from my angle it looked like a good hit.
  22. Why put "here comes...." after the game? It is more like "there went.....". That gives me the impression that it was someone locally trying to stir up trouble or just be criminals.
  23. Not a lot to choose from in the big game arena this week.
  24. Also, head-to-head is the first tie breaker. It may be possible for three teams to be tied for a position but one team may have beat both other teams. If that is the case, the team that beat both others is the winner or 1st place. The next two teams will then be considered head-to-head. In such a case, a point spread is not needed.
