It sure looked like it. The Nederland player took a hard clean hit and tried to stay on his feet. He walked for a couple of yards and then fell. The Ozen players looked back when he fell and two of them did their jumping high five (or was it that jumping chest bump). The refs saw it and went over to the Ozen players, I guess to warn them. I didn't know that Unsportsmanlike Conduct draws a warning but I guess it did in that case or maybe celebrating another player's injury is not unsportsmanlike by the rules. A PN-G player got flagged last week for doing way less than that.

A month ago I would have thought that Dayton and Central would be playing this game for the district championship. That isn't the case anymore. I say that Memorial and WB is the GOW. It is to try and save a playoff spot for Memorial and a step toward a possible district championship for WB.

I would not want it. It takes an element out of the game. Now if they could find a way to get an accurate line on the field for first downs after the play is blown dead, it would be great. Leave the ball where it is spotted and then shoot the line across the field. You could do the same thing when marking a first down other than a ref on the side line guessing where to put the sticks to begin with.

Hey Purple, Nederland is really going to have a tough time if we have to play the Panthers and the Jaguars.

I think it is Credeur from Lumberton at this point. His team that has never made the playoffs is undefeated and has already beaten the two district favorites.

The good thing about Kansas is, you can see for about 20 miles in any direction. Now if they only made a gun that shot that far. Actually in the southeast corner, there are some small hills. The rest of Kansas you could use for a straight edge.

I'll bet the first guy that ate a raw oyster was hungry and had the choice between a raw oyster and a jack. He obviously made the choice for the slimy oyster.

In 22-4A, LC-M and Vidor. Central and Ozen I don't think would be mathematically eliminated with a third loss but it sure comes close. About 15 different things would have to fall in place for them to make the playoffs with a third loss.

His one handed catch for a touchdown was a pretty nice feat also.

Going to the playoffs is more of a process of eliminating teams than winning. Five teams will be knocked out of the playoffs in this 8 team district. Vidor and LC-M are all but eliminated. With three losses, they may already be out but Nederland did make it last year with three losses. Central and Ozen are on the verge of being eliminated. They can stay in the race but both have to pretty much win out. There are four other teams with no more than one loss and still 4 games each to go and several of them are with each other. Dayton is right there and could even win district. All four of those teams still control their own destiny. The other four teams probably need some help along the way from the other teams.

So much for moral victories. Either you win or you don't.

Jacks aren't good for much but if you just want to fight a fish, there are none better. There is no way to stop one without a lot of heavy line or chase them for a few miles.

Advancing the ball after the play is dead is a Delay of Game penalty. The ball was ruled dead and the PN-G player picked it up and ran down the field (at the urging of the coaches?) The rule: Illegal Delay of the Game ARTICLE 2. a. The ball shall be declared ready for play consistentlythroughout the game by the referee when the officials are in position.Consuming more than 25 seconds to put the ball in play after it is declared ready for play is an illegal delay. b. Illegal delay also includes: 1. Deliberately advancing the ball after it is dead.

The players were jacking their jaws all night. I don't see a penalty in that. In the play you are talking about with the Unsportsmanlike Conduct, the PN-G player made a big hit but then stood over the player and threw out his arms with a "what you gonna to do now" look. He started yelling something at the Nederland player while making the gestures and the ref was right there looking and tossed the flag immediately. I am assuming that it was for taunting which is against the rules under Unsportsmanlike Conduct. The PN-G's player had his back to the PN-G side and they could not see the hand gestures which is clearly against the rules.

It depends, like everything else I guess. You can get a fully functional adult size hunting bow set up for about $350 and it goes up from there. The bow that I killed a deer with last week cost me about $300 but that included the quiver, sights, arrow rest, etc. You could probably go up to about $1,000 but most of that is not needed. The bow might be a little lighter, a little faster or a little smother but you can shoot most of the about the same. You could probably get a youth bow for about $100 or in that range but it will cost a bit more if you want a pro shop to set it up for you. You can even get some really light draw bows with about a 20 pound pull for about $70. I think a decent size 14 year old can handle a bit more than that however. Yes, you could measure it yourself. It is easier to do with a bow but you can get within an inch without one. Have him stand with his left arm straight out to his left side and make a fist like he is holding a bow (assuming he is going to shoot right handed). It might even help to put something about 1.5 inches in diameter in his hand like he is holding a bow rest. Then have him turn his head and look left toward his hand with his chin or cheek touching his left shoulder near the ball socket. That is the position he should be in when he shoots. Then take a tape measure and measure the distance from the tip of the knuckle on his left finger to the right corner of his mouth. That should be about his anchor point. The measurement between his forefinger and the corner of his mouth will be his draw length. When in doubt, it is better to be an inch long than an inch short.

Is it for hunting or just target shooting/practice? How big/strong is he? What draw length (very important)? There are several very good brands on the market. Any of them would be fine for a first bow. My main question would be what is he using it for? Does he intend to hunt with it or does he just want to learn archery? If he is hunting I think he should be shooting a compound bow. They are generally easier to shoot for most people. Once I know that, I would want to know his strength and ability. Since hunting requires a minimum of a 40 pound pull, you need to be sure that he can handle that much or if it is for target practice, you can get a lighter pull. Also, look for a compound that has 75-80% let-off. That way, once he gets the bow drawn back, he can hold it longer, be more steady and have more time to aim before he tires. It would help if you went to an archery pro shop to have the bow set up for him. It is not necessary but it sure helps, especially if you haven't done it before. Do you intend to surprise him with the bow or does he know he is getting it? If it is a surprise, you might go to an archery shop and pick out a bow with their help and give it to him on Christmas. You can then bring the bown and him in for proper setup. If it is not a surprise and doesn't have to be given on Christmas day, you might go in with him to the archery pro shop and have them set it up for him right then. He can also get some shooting in at the shop since most have 20-30 yard indoor ranges. I got my first recurve bow about 40 years ago. I have been hunting and shooting bows off and on since that time but I am sure not an expert. I have set up a couple of bows but I would rather have it done by a pro. It is much faster and you can usually get the bow tuned better to get the maximum efficiency out of the arrow. I might be able to point you in some directions, according to where you live.

The all look pretty much the same (except size) to me other than WO-S with their concrete stands and Silsbee with the home stands in a hillside. I guess you could toss in Ozen that plays at Lamar with their bowl shaped stadium. That is not a true high school stadium but a loaner.

The point spread between the three teams is the determining factor. I think that the maximum per game is 16 points so if a team wins 35-0, they only get credit for a +16. Right now Dayton is at -1 and Lumberton is at +1. That is not enough point spread to make much of a difference at this point. Just for example, if Dayton beats PN-G by 10, then they are +10 (PNG win) - 1 (Lumberton loss) = +9 in point spread. PN-G beats Lumberton by 14, then they are 14 (Lumberton win) - 10 (Dayton loss) = +4. Lumberton would be 1 (Dayton win) - 14 (PN-G loss) = -13 That would mean Dayton is first place (+9) PN-G second (+4) Lumberonton third (-13) The largest school of the three goes as Division 1. The other two go as Division 2 in order of their district ranking.
