Favorite Things About Being in a Deer Stand

Exaggerating a bit aren't you? It was only down to 29 and no, I didn't sleep. But then again, as per the title of the thread, I was not in a Deer Stand. Had I been in my stand, I would have been asleep with my catalytic heater keeping me toasty warm. BUT.... I am ready to go back....... -
Your teams biggest rival and what created the rivalry?

Your condescending remarks are fairly humorous. "Get a clue", " just what we do", "you should try it", etc. Sorry if some of us low lifes don't measure up. You are too funny. -
Okay. I won't take any money then.... mostly because no one would pay me. I got out of high school 35 33 years ago anyway.

Can you say that on a G rated forum? -
Global cooling again.

The 1 second way to a blister. On some of my lighter weight trolling/pier reels like a Penn 209, I used to sew a leather tab onto the reel so I could thumb the spool.

Don't get bothered because I don't know the history of Jasper and Silsbee. I am not sure why you think I should be familiar with Jasper and Silsbee history or what they did 50-80 years ago anymore than you should know about Nederland and PN-G. I don't know if Jasper and Silsbee have been playing continuously since 1925 or earlier. Have they? When did they start playing and what is their record? I asked the question 3 days ago in this thread and never got an answer. I know that they have both been rivals of late due to being in the same district sometimes. I said they may be in the category of some of the great rivalries. I am not familiar with their history so I left it at that. I don't think I have ever heard anyone ever talking about Jasper/Silsbee outside of these boards but I don't imagine that Nederland is a hot topic around downtown Jasper either. Why should they be? PN-G and Nederland have played 83 times since 1925 and PN-G leads the series with Nederland 46-30-7. -
Any fish that hits your bait at 50+ mph is a fun fish on light line. Spanish are a blast to catch on light spinning reels.

Oh yeah.. being you are from PN-G, I will let you off with jokes about tutor. ;D

I would love to coach again and coached a couple of Little League teams to playoffs including all star teams. The way they teach now with professional instructions and select ball, I would likely be out of the loop.

I think everyone you play is a rival. To say someone is a rival to me just means you play them, hopefully every year in district or have a good non-district thing going. I think what most people think of when you say rival is their archrival. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Main Entry: arch·ri·val Pronunciation: -'rI-v&l Function: noun : a principal rival. Nederland has had many rivals over the years. There was a very good 30+ year rivalry with PA TJ, a good one until recently with WO-S (especially in recent years) and a few others. I hated TJ "almost" as much as PN-G. But as good as some of these rivalries were, none are really close to PN-G/Nederland. It is a game that is talked about all year and it has been that way long before there were internet forums to keep it active. We started playing them 81 years ago and I started watching the games in the early 60's. It was as intense then as it is now. So yes, there are some good rivalries but it is the archrival that really makes a difference. I know that until Beaumont merged their schools, South Park Greenies and Beaumont High Royal Purples were very good archrivals as were Charlton Pollard Bulldogs and Hebert Panthers. Midland Lee and Odessa Permian come to mind as a strong archrivalry that has lasted many years. Maybe Silsbee and Jasper fit into that category but I am not that familiar with them. If someone is trying to figure out who their archrival is, then they don't have one. -

If you don't know for sure, they aren't your main rival. ;D -

You kidding? I do my best sleeping in a deer stand. Then I wake up, check for deer.... and remember I have to go back to work in 4 days. -
Freeze Event Fishing Ban for Selected Coastal Areas

I am all for helping the fish to survive but is this even going to be effect or worth the effort other than it sounds good. Their article says that in 1989 Brownsville got down to 16 degrees and it killed 11 million fish. How many anglers do they think will be on the water when it gets to 16 degrees and how much of a dent will they put on the fish other than the 11 million dead from the cold? I would think the fish are hardly even moving by the time the temperature gets that cold and not eating much anyway, if at all. How many fish can they catch (if any)for the guys that go out on a 16 degree day? I bet the chill factor was near 0. Yep, I really want to be out on the water then!!!! -
Did anyone have a good deer season?

We have 11 members in our lease between Chester and Colmesneil and I think we got 15 does the first 10 days. Get the herd thinned early to save the food for the rest of them. -

I agree but that is not totally true. I care that my vacation ends in 4 days and I have to get back to the grind. -
I saw it on CNN or CBS news this morning. The vet said that he pronounced the duck dead and the other guy picked it up and shook it or blew into its beak or something. Then Perky came back for round three. ** The vet quickly jumped in and performed another $3,000 worth of lifesaving skills.... ;D

And why shouldn't he? They have a couple of Hooters in Dallas (I have been there). ;D

It is interesting looking at the wildlife in east Texas from a deer stand. You can see coyotes, rabbits, mink, foxes, turkey, squirrels.... just about everything but deer. Actually I see a lot of deer also. It is kind of fun watching the deer a few feet away, especially when you know you are not going to shoot them. But on occasion one will step out that just needs to be eaten..... -
LOL. Right..... we are going to give you secret fishing holes for cats. I seriousness, are you looking for trotline holes or rod and reel fishing?

I had a fun year but it could have been better. Just before the season, my work schedule was changed and I lost about half of my days to hunt. I also got to make that trip down to south Texas to watch it snow and sleet and drive in the mud. Believe or not, it was a pretty good time and gives me something to look forward to in the future. -
