  1. That is true about Mosley. After leading Nederland to the playoffs for 11 straight years, he is finally graduating. He still holds the record for most rushing touchdowns as a 1st grader. We are sure going to miss him. **************************************** With all due respect PVB, Mosley has not been there for the 11 years in a row that Nederland has made the playoffs. I am not sure how we won before he got there but we must have pulled it off somehow without him.
  2. Is this the tail of the boy that cried wolf? It seems like we have seen this story before. Assuming that Vidor does beat Nederland next year, Vidor beat Nederland this year and we see what that did for their program.... and how much it stopped Nederland's playoff hopes.
  3. They could not have kept Tyson in jail even if they wanted to. He has the right to make bond and they allowed him to leave on a personal appearance bond. I don't think it really matters anyway. A bond is just to guarantee that you show up for your trial and I am sure that Tyson will show up. Even had the judge issued a cash bond for possession of cocaine, Tyson would have gotten someone to make it easily and would have gotten out at the same time.
  4. The bowls are de facto championships or rankings anyway. Last season the 2005 Rose Bowl was for the national championship game. For the 2004 championship, it was the Orange Bowl. You could just do the same thing with a playoff system. One year the Sugar bowl would be the national championship game with the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl as playoff locations. Then rotate them every year like they do now. The three or four game playoffs would be at those sites. The rest of the bowls, just like now, are just to extend the season, pride in saying your team made it to a bowl and for money (heavy on the money).
  5. They should have a playoff but there is no need for one with 25 teams. The NCAA is not the NFL with its parity. Once you get past about the top 4 or 5 teams in the NCAA, there starts to be a fairly wide gap in team strength. I never see anyone argue that the 16th ranked team should be playing for the national title. Make it an 8 team tournament and it would only take 3 games. The current #7 in the BCS is Wisconsin and #8 is Boise State. I think that is just about far enough down the rankings for a good tournament and fair tourney.
  6. I think all east Texas counties have that April only season. The rest of the state usually runs from the same time frame as deer season along with a more extended spring season.
  7. I have a 4 day deer hunt coming up in two weeks near Eagle Pass. If I see a gobbler in my corn, I might take him, especially if I already have a deer. The turkey season their runs until January 21st.
  8. Lance Watson and Davy Arnaud from Nederland is in the MLS.
  9. Whoa! We sure changed gears with that post.
  10. Think of the sausage you could get off of that thing!
  11. Well, a disgusting thing like a comb next to food kind of sticks out doesn't it?
  12. Welcome back. The last time I checked, it was our job to delete posts. Are you making a comment in general or do you have a specific post in mind?
  13. Picking 14 of the 20 finalists is a 70% guess rating with 25 shots at getting it right. Then you have teams, as you mentioned, like SLC and Tatum. I would think that almost everyone could have made a reasonable pick to put them in at least the top 2 to start the season. When you have gimmes like that, it really puts Texas Football Magazine down to 60% in picks in races that were really up for grabs. There are 4 regions in each classification. If the eventual state champ was in at least your pick in the top 4 (the 4 regional champs), then I would say that you made some good picks. If I counted correctly, 7 of the state finalist teams were picked by TFM in the top 4. That is roughly 33% of picking the state champions if you assume that only being in the top 4 is a good pick. I think TFM only had one pick at preseason #1 that actually won state and that was Tatum. So now for actual preseason #1 picks, they are 5% at being right. The bottom line, is it really that good of a job of picking if you basically allowed 25 shots at getting it right? I would think that a lot of people could pick a preseason top 25 and if a state finalist comes from anywhere on that list, it is called a good pick. So next year, if someone asks you in preseason who is going to be the 4A champ, all you have to do is say, "well, give me 25 picks and I think I can do it". With that scenario, TFM scored a 70%. Take out Tatum and SLC and they are at 60%. If TFM was under no pass/no play, they would be on the bench.
  14. It would have been ashame to go out an lose after that speech. I just wonder what the other coach was saying though.
  15. Christmas is over.. .how the heck did Earl Thomas get picked for anything? If he was not playing for WO-S, he would not have... blah blah blah. ;D We had a good showing this year in all state members. Congrats to all of them. Earl Thomas seems to be a lot like Ryan Butler was for Nederland the last couple of years. That is basically never coming off of the field and a guy you turn to when the game is on the line.... although for WO-S, the game was rarely on the line. I see that Earl Thomas also got MVP from the dreaded (from WO-S viewpoint) Port Arthur News on their Super Team selections. Congratulations on that also.
  16. I liked the postscript on the Vidor/Nederland game. Vidor went on to lose 5 of their last 6 and Nederland went two games deep in the playoffs. Piratefan might start a whole new thread when he sees that.......
  17. It is at First Point Ranch. The exit to the ranch is on FM 481 and is 29 miles south of Uvalde and 26 miles north of Eagle Pass or 15 miles north of the intersection of 481 and US 57. More than likely a ground blind or a popup. I have a good popup if I can cover it up enough. I hope that I get the chance to choose. There is no kill fee as long as I kill one at least 3 1/2 years old.
  18. It might be a bit cool when I get down there but I might find one to kill. If y'all want, I can bring it back and we can get together and fry it up. I also found a great recipe for stuffed rattler.
  19. Snakes don't bother me. That is, as long as I am not within striking range. If I see any snake several feet before I get to it then I don't care. The only problem I have with them is walking up to one unseen. The thought of poison being injected into me is not a thrilling idea but other than that, bring 'em on. Give me a stick and I will walk up and bop one on the head.. then eat him.
  20. I had a friend hunt in south Texas probably about 25 years ago. He had killed a large rattler and brought back a few pounds of the meat. I went to his house right after he got back and asked him about the taste of the snake since I knew that he brought back the meat. He said that they were waiting for me to be the guinea pig. So they battered and fried up a few pieces and I ate it. Then they fried the rest and we all say there and ate it. Good stuff. Tastes like chicken.........
  21. It is interesting that you mentioned rattlesnakes. I was looking at a Texas Parks and Wildlife video yesterday on the internet on the Texas brush country. I figured that I needed to learn as much as possible about the area. One of the things that they showed (and I had not thought of) was rattlesnakes in the area.... along with scorpions and other assorted critters. www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/webcasts/txwild/brush.phtml I see you got the rattles. What did he taste like?
