They don't have stands. They just give you a tract of land to hunt as you see fit. They corn the senderos and there is a rule against hunting within 100 yards of a feeder or water tank so I am assuming that they have both. So you think hunting the lanes would be okay for a trophy. Actually I don't doubt that I will see a couple the way the place is described but I can imagine that I will see one or two in gun range that will not even be close to bow range. I was reading an article by a writer from Bowhunting North America that hunted the ranch and he had about a 120 class 2 1/2 year old (good looking deer but not a shooter) within a few yards and his partner saw about a 130 class 8 point about 200 yards down the sendero. I might be willing to take that shot with a rifle but it is hardly within my bow range.... by about 185 yards. The guy that has hunted it successfully is the friend of a friend so most of what we know from him is not in detail. He will be back in town in a week or so and we plan to question him till he gets sick of us. He has hunted the place for 4 years now so he should have a pretty good idea how to hunt it. Any experience that I can gather from other hunters would be helpful however.

Anyone have any experience around the Uvalde/Eagle Pass area or any of the south Texas brush country? I have a bowhunting trip there in about three weeks and have no clue how to hunt the area. I have had a couple of small tips from friends that knew a friend that had a buddy who had a cousin that hunted there but that is about it. From what I have seen, it is fairly flat area of the brush country with a lot of mesquite with senderos cut through a lot of the thick areas. I will start hunting at Noon on a Tuesday and won't have to leave until Noon on Friday so I will have time to look around and do a little scouting. I will have about 300 acres or so to hunt on. Is it better to hunt the senderos or get off of them an into some thicker stuff around trails. I have heard that both methods work but not from anyone that has actually hunted the area. I know that if I hunt a sendero I will probably see a lot more deer, probably all day long. Since I will be bowhunting only, I don't really care to see 50 deer 150 yards away. I just want one P&Y about 15 yards (or closer). The ranch is bowhunting only and I know that they corn the senderos once a day. I am sure that it brings a lot of deer out to eat but I am wondering if the big ones get out into the openings like that. I have a lot of experience gun and bow hunting but only in the Piney Woods. I have a funny feeling that it will be a different experience with a bow in the south Texas brush country.

All the more reason to dump him now while they can still get something for him.

Me too. I think I am going to my freezer and get some backstrap. I am going to slice it and then stuff it with boudain (and maybe some jalepenos) and some cheese. I will then wrap it in several slices of bacon. After that, I am going to double bread it in Japanese Panko style bread crumbs and cover it with Texjoy Steak Seasoning. I will then deep fry it and cover it in a thick cream gravy. Yum yum, what a tasty piece of deer that will be!! Nothing else like it.... no need for a prime rib when you have that available...

Thanks to everyone for making my point so eloquently. Deer is great, as long as you cover it with breading and gravy, stuff it full of boudain, smother it in cheese, roll it in bacon, etc. You would not cover a great piece of rib eye with breading. You would not take a t-bone and stuff it with boudain and cover it with cheese. Why? Because those are great pieces of meat and you don't need to cover them up with spices, breading, cheese, etc in order to give it some semblance of flavor. I love to eat and cook deer. I make it into chicken fried steak. I have marinated it in mustard and then cubed it into a gravy. I can cook a great stew with a venison roast. I take the ground meat and make it into almost anything. I still think that any piece of meat that you have to cover with breading and then smother it in gravy or stuff it with boudain and cover it with cheese in order to say that it is awesome, is not awesome. The breading, bacon, cheese, boudain, garlic, gravy, etc are awesome. The piece of deer that you have to lavish the stuff on however is not. It could just as well be veal, venison, chicken and probably even dog for that matter. As long as you cover it with enough flavors, it is good. So, do I like chicken fried backstrap? You bet. Do I enjoy a deer roast with potatoes, carrots and brown gravy. Sure I do. Deer chili is great. So is deer sausage in either link or pan. Is whitetail deer an awesome piece of meat however? Not hardly. Now Diva, when are you going to cook me some deer?

I don't mind the idea of drug testing but it needs to be for everyone in extra curricular activity if it is implimented and not single out athletes. If a volleyball player has to take the test by school rules, then a member of the debate team should also.

Diva, if you think that fried deer steak is awesome, I need to take you out to eat somewhere. You have got to get out of your sheltered life. I am not knocking venison and I eat it often.. .but awesome steaks?

Wow, that is nice..... but it leaves a bit to the imagination.

I haven't gone yet. It is a late January hunt on a bow only ranch. I am really starting to feel good about the trip. I will probably see some good deer but don't know if I can get one within bow range. Gonna give it a good attempt however.
