So the people that voted on the polls have been right 10 out of 12 times when ranked teams play each other. But how can that be when the voters obviously have no idea what they are talking about since they don't go by won/loss records?

Yeah. I had answered two posts about the same question of record over poll rating. One was the power rating and the other being the setxsports.com poll. I got misfused on which one I was responding to.

Nederland is currently rated at #4 with PN-G being rated at #6. What are you talking about?

Anyone can see that Mosley is the offensive leader of the team. It is the same with most teams that they have a "go to" player or two. Nederland's quarterback, Alex Moshier, has already passed for almost 500 yards and 3 touchdowns and is about 50 yards from being the passing leader in 22-4A. When Mosley was rushing for 318 yards against Waller, Moshier passed for almost 200. There is no doubt that Mosley is a team leader but I think it would be foolish to think if you stop Mosley, the game is over.

Take Hwy 287 out of Woodville where it splits from Hwy 69. Another 18 miles or so and you are there.

With the ranking system, it is not that difficult. The voting (ranking system) is done based on an opinion on who can beat who, not record. This is especially true during the early season when teams are playing such a wide spectrum of other teams. Some schools are playing very good 4A or 5A schools but losing while others in the same district are playing 3A schools that may not be so good but getting a win. Dayton is ranked above Lumberton also and they are only 1-2. I would bet that when they open district play in two weeks, Dayton will be favored to beat Lumberton. Dayton at 1-2 will be better than Lumberton who will likely be 3-0 in the eyes of most people ("most people" being defined as anyone living outside of Lumberton). In the opinion of the majority of the setxsports.com voters, Ozen will beat Lumberton when they play. It is as simple as that, so they are ranked higher.

Does this mean the discussion is back on topic? How far back do they go, how many games have they played and what is the record?

I feel bad for the team. If that is a true story, then it is a terrible blow for them. There has to be a line of what is acceptable behavior. The kids need to know that being a football player is not a status symbol that can overcome laws, rules, etc. I think it is a disservice to the players that do not break rules but who must sit back and watch what goes on around them and see who has privileges. It can be shocking to see how some schools or coaches will go to cover up even serious criminal behavior. Whatever the situation is in OF, I congratulate the OF coach for standing up for what is right. Good luck to them in their game.

But who is doing the overrating? I haven't seen anything that rates Lumberton as anything other than a bottom of the pack team. Not in the statewide predictions, not in the coaches polls, not in fan polls, etc. Their fans are excited but so are the fans from all the teams. Most people think Central is going to win 22-4A and that is not just Jag fans but fans across the district. If they do not have a good season, they will have been overrated. I don't see anyone jumping on the Lumberton bandwagon other than their own fans and I suspect that most of them on this board are parents of players or the players themselves. When a team's own fans think they will do well, in my opinion that is not being overrated. That is being good fans.

Quite the opposite of venom, I think it is funny. You started a forum so that you could let everyone know your thoughts on Nederland. No big deal on that but you wanted someone else to start the ball rolling. Seven posts into the thread and no one has come up with any teams, especially the one you wanted to start the thread about. So now you are stuck with doing it yourself. My curiosity is just where is Nederland overrated. Before the season most people (probably around 98%) have said that Central would win the district and Nederland probably be in the playoffs as either the second or third place team. Going three weeks into the season, I see exactly the same responses. Central is still predicted by almost everyone to win the district with Nederland having a good shot at the playoffs, either second or third place. Nothing has changed. Your own post says "Nederland is a good team that most likely will make the playoffs". You mention that after the Forest Brook game, people think Nederland is better than they are. Figure this, here are some of the predictions on the FB game in this forum: 41-12, 42-14, 51-0, 42-14, 42-7, 42-10, 42-0, 35-7. Yep, I can see where Nederland did much better against FB than expect. Obviously that is being sarcastic since those pre-game predicitons looked right on target. So if Nederland before the season was predicted to be in the playoffs, after two games the predictions remain the same, they played against FB about as expected and your own post says that they are a good team and will likely be in the playoffs, where is the overrating?

It hardly looks like an opinion of the reporter. Tom Halliburton quotes the coach and quarterback as saying the visor caused problems both in fatigue and vision. It sounds more like reporting rather than an opinion or editorial.
