no its a thurs game and I quit including thurs games because there are several that send the lineup in on Friday and it became too much of a hassle keeping up with when a lineup was turned in.
Evadale and Galveston O'Connell is a Friday game?
2.
Is Evadale and Kountze on Saturday? I have heard it's Thursday evening.
My son's schedule says Friday the 20th
3. The Rebels were dominate in the scrimage against Warren tonight. The Rebel offense scored four times and kept the Warriors out of the end zone on the night. I know that the Warriors are under a new coach and system, so you don't want to read too much into the first scrimmage, but it was good to see the Rebels move the ball and be dominate on the defensive side of the ball.
4.
Murphy does throw the better pass but as some have said the Rebs dont always have a great line and the Sr can take the hit and keep getting up. How many teams can say that their starting  linebacker is also their QB?  The Nickels kid is just one tuff kid. Murphy will have his chances but just not this year as their starter. But they should be far out in front of some teams in Dist. that he will see the field plenty.
We will likely see Nichols at strong safety this season. This give him a chance to be a force on the D without having to take so many hits. I have seen him in the defensive backfield which leaves Harvey and Franklin at the LB's. Looking forward to the scrimmage at Warren on Saturday. I know the Rebels are looking forward to hitting someone beside their own teammates!
5. The Rebels will once again open the door for SETX teams to start hitting as Midnight Madness kicks off another year of HS football. This has become a really big deal as the entire community will be out in the wee hours of the morning to watch our Rebels. The athletic booster club will have the concession stand opened with drinks and snacks (no cooked food), Operation Graduation will be taking orders for commemorative Midnight Madness t-shirts and Central Baptist will be giving out free watermelon and taking orders for football and volleyball player as well as Rebel fan yard signs. Everyone needs to come out and see the renovations to the field. There is more room on the home side with more bleachers. The concession stand is bigger and has more serving windows. The pressbox liiks differnt. The new weight room just had the new weight equipment delivered yesterday and the old weight room now has a nice new visitors dressing room located inside it. The field is in great shape and the players have been working hard this week. The Rebels have 14 seniors this season and 9 juniors that will likely make up the varsity squad. The JV has plenty of guys and will of course benefit from their own team and schedule of games. It should be a great year for the Rebels and it starts in earnest at 12:01 AM in the morning.
6. Good luck Lady Rebels!
7. The Rebels looked sharp this morning in their first workout of the year. Experience and depth will be major factors this season in th eRebels favor as they attempt to make noise in predistrict and district play, but especially once they get to the playoffs. Keep the focus and intensity and this will be a great year for you Rebels!
8. Well SETX faithful it has been pretty slow on the site for the past few weeks, but it is time for the fun to begin again. I know that all of you are as excited as myself about the start of another year of high school football. To all the players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members. pep squad members, drill team members and any other members that I have left out and of course to all the fans. Best of luck on your season. Prayers to everyone to be safe before during and after games coming or going. It should be a great year for SETX and my hope is for multipule titles in all classifications for our region. Be smart players in the heat of these next few weeks it will be hot and the last thing we need is to hear about a heat related issue from any squad or with any player. Just wanted to invite everyone out to Evadale on Friday morning at 12:01 AM for Midnight Madness. We are calling it Knockin At Midnight and it is great to be a part of. You can even get a free slice of watermelon from one of the local churches to help cool you off. I would also advise you to bring your insect repealant, it is Southeast Texas! Great times and great seasons to all, except of course on the night you are playing the Rebels!
9. The Rebels come in at #19 in the state and #3 in region 4. The Rebels has 13 seniors on this years team and they will present some difficult match ups for many teams. The offense returns 8 starters and one more that was a starter before an injury. The entire line two tight ends, our QB and FB are all back with some interesting possiblities at wide reciever and new speed at the running back. The defense brings back all three linemen and 3 of the four starting LB's. The starting safety is back and there are several that will compete for the other DB spots and there are a couple who will be in the mix for the OLB spot that is open. The Rebels will once again have over 40 players coming out for the team and that means another year of JV ball to continue the skill progression for teh Rebels. The new weight room will continue the teams improvement with strength and conditioning so all in all it looks to be a very good year once again for the Rebels.
10. Just another update for any Rebel fans. The bleacher extension on the home side is a couple of days away from completion. The sound system is reinstalled, can't wait to hear how it sounds now that they have added a couple of more speakers. The carpet is all that is needed for the press box renovations to be complete and the new weight equipment should be delivered this week in time for the summer workouts. The field is in the best shape that it has been in in years. The grass is lush and green! No bald spots and with a mowing today it looks like it looks ready to get its first striping, but I know the coaches will wait awhile. The field house is getting ready as the coaches are busy making sure that equipment and everything else is in place for Monday at 8:30 AM. Midnight Madness will be at 12:01 AM on August 6th so be sure to put that no the calendar. You might put a star on the calendar for Sept. 3rd as well as the Rebel Baseball team will be recognized in a pregame ceremony (if all the seniors who graduated can make it of course) The team will present the state runner up trophy and all the individual honors  from all district to all tournament to all state will be presented. It will be a great year for the Rebels and the expectations will be running high right from the start. Hope to see everyone at Midnight Madness and at every game this season.
11. Just playing where they put us.
12.
Evadale has the easiest district in Texas. Evadale will win District hands down. They may not even be scored on in District play. Just look at the other teams in their District, none of them have even 100 kids enrolled in school. It's looks like a 6-man District. Evadale will win each District game by 5 TD's or more !! The UIL messed up.
Not sure what to make of this one? The UIL set the enrollment figures and the teams are the same teams that we have had in district for years minus HD and WH being included in the D1 schools and Chester dropping to six man. I just wonder what was the mess up on the part of the UIL? No one from Evadale was in on the district placement or the number of students to determine D1 or D2. Just looking for the clarification on 55's post.
13.
Its people like "SFA65" that motivate the guys on the team to play harder. I am the runningback for Burkeville #22! I can promise you we will surprise alot of people this season!! Lost 4 good kids but have alot of talent comin up. Not sayin we will beat evadale but i can promise you again that it wont be easy!!
I like your spunk (that's a word us older folks use) Fanatic! The Rebels have plenty coming back from last year, but that is why we play the games and doon't just crown a champion when the pre season previews come out. I have great respect for Burkeville and all the coaches and athletes that wear the Mustang blue and white, just like I respect High Island and Sabine Pass. The Rebels have a great roll going the past few years, but things can change. Don't get me wrong, i still believe that the district crown will come to the Rebels, but again that is why the games are played. I wish all the 14A D2 teams great pre district success. It will help people understand that small school football in SETX is something to be concerned with. See you in Burkeville in October for the first game of district play!
14. Can't wait!
15. The Rebels entering the preseason in the top 20 is great! But it still has to be proven on the field. The Rebels will be bringing plenty to the table with a large senior class that has plenty of experience. Two straight district championships and a 10-0 season last regular season have the Rebels in position to make a deep run in the playoffs. Many of the football team were members of the baseball team that finished as runner ups this past year. They loved being in the playoffs and winning. I believe that it will translate to the football field this season. But again only time will tell. I don't know about any of you but I am sure getting ready for those Friday night lights SETX style that is!
16.
How many coaches has Evadale had after they won state anybody.
Jason Henry Trent Jones and Jason Wilkins
17.
Rebbel Yeller I'm not mad.Just trying to explain that this was more of a forced move than something that was planned. This year was more of 6-man or no ball at all.Everyone in Chester had hoped more boys would go out for ball but it didn't work out that way.Everyone here loves playing 11-man and hopes to go back to it someday.I understand what your saying about Chester should have seen this coming, but when you don't like the option you tend to look the other way.Six man has aways been a touchy subject here.
I totally understand little d and I say again I wish Chester great success and by the sounds of it you might end up with some great crowds because it sounds like plenty of people will want to come and see this new brand of football. Better stock up in the concession stand you just might need the extra groceries!
18. I did swing by the school today and the work on the new visitor locker room has started. It will be a nice change from teams having to go into the junior high locker room or the elementary gym.
19.
Well Rebbel Yeller I hope the schools in 14-1a are able to locate a game to replace the one lost to Chester.I must say that I don't know if coach Franklin talked to anyone or not.I didn't hear anything. Maybe he just decided to stay out of it since he wasn't planning on being here this year.Maybe he didn't want to step on the new coaches toes.Chester had no predistrict games on there schedule until a week to 10 days ago , so it looks like he decided to let the new coach handle it all himself.Actuality if the community was going to have a say which we should because it's our kids playing the meeting needed to be with the new coach. The school board had to wait to see how the community voted before moving on.As I said I hate it for the teams in 14-1a but I have seen Chester only have 8 or 9 games in years past I'm sure the teams in 14-1a will persevere.
Little d, please don't think I am mad at anyone in Chester. I have spent some great times watching our schools compete against one another. My only point was I know that the number of players is something that has been known since the end of last season had to be cancelled. This was a topic that is not new to SETX Sports so I am sure it is not a new subject to the folks in Chester. I do truly wish Chester much success in 6 man and yes the other schools in 14A will be fine. It was just an observation and the disapointment of a dad with a senior boy who will have one less opportunity to see his son play on his home field in his senior year.
20.
Could you post some pictures for us?  8)
I'll try, but it will be a couple of weeks as I am leaveing the state later this week.
21. I salute Coach Holton for making a stand (a very difficult stand) especially when he is just arriving on the scene right out of the gate. I just wonder whu this could not have been done sooner? What has changed? What made anyone know that this was not going to be what Chester had coming up at the start of this school year. I know Coach Franklin and I am sure that he told the board and anyone else that would listen that 12 or 13 guys were coming out for football and that they could not play out an entire season with that number of players. They had more players to start the season last year than they had coming out this coming year! It has been mentioned before that every school in 14A D2 will have no more than 9 games. That means that the 20 to 30 players on every roster from Burkeville, Sabine Pass, High Island and Evadale will get one less game than they should have been able to play. For a couple of schools (Evadale for one) this will be the second year that the season will have a hole in it. Last year I fully understand and commend Coach Franklin and Chester for putting safety above a game, but this year it is a little more difficult to accept as this is not a new thing, this is a continuation of last season and 80 or more boys from four different schools will be dealing with a situation that could have been avoided. I wish Chester great success in six man. It is a great and exciting game that will energize the entire community as they have a chance to compete on a more equal footing. To the other district schools I can only hope that in some way you all might be able to find even a larger school JV to play as a fill in game. Who knows we might all get to see some stadiums that we might never get to see with out this situation!
22. The make over from the recent bond election continues at Evadale. The school district sold bonds a few years ago for much needed improvements to the acedmic facilities and programming, but when they did not immediately begin construction something great happened, the bond money acrued interest and because of that several facilities were able to get a "make over" and really improve several areas of the extra cirricular programs. The baseball field got the "Green Monster" wall in left field with huge lettering "Home of the EVADALE REBELS" and I am sure that 2010 1A State Runner Up will be added somewhere before the beginning of the 2011 baseball season. The Lady Rebels got a new fence, scoreboard and pressbox on their field as well. The old batting cage got a roof and a new double batting cage is ready for the netting to be ready by next season. Both the baseball and softball fields got new PA systems too. The AG department has a brand new arena and feeding center where stalls and pins for upwards of 50 animals can be housed. and now the final changes are being done to the football field and its support facilities. 1. A new weight and workout room is awaiting the arrival of new equipment. This building also has restrooms for the visiting fans. 2. The concession stand has been expanded and now has more serving windows. 3. The Pressbox and been remodeled on the inside including a new coaches box. On the roof there is now a covered filming area and a visiting coaches box. This includes the new sound system that was installed last year. 4. The old weight room is being concerted into a visiting dressing room and a new bus parking area will be next to it for ease of access to visiting teams. 5. Enlargement of the home stands should begin very soon and be ready before the start of the season. The Rebels have had great success in all these ares in the past few years and the facilities upgrade will continue to show the pride that the Evadale community has in our Rebels. Hope you all can come and see what has been done!
23. I can fully understand if Chester moves to 6 man, but I just wonder why they waited so long to make this call, (if they have?) Grad has some valid questions. It will be difficult for them to fill out a schedule as an independent, I can't imagine the UIL placing them in a district at this late a date. It also makes for difficulties for the other teams in 14A. Every team will now have a second bye week that will be difficult if not impossible to fill at this time. I never heard if HI had found a replacement for the other game they lost due to a private school dropping their program. I am sorry for every one in Chester if this turns out to be true, but I also wish they would have thought about everything else that this decision will come back on when realignment was still fresh and changes could have been made to find additional games by the others teams that this will effect.
24. Congrats to the three Evadale Rebels on the All State Team Tyler Tucker 1st team 1st base (second year to be all state) Hayden DuBose 2nd team pitcher Dilan Anthony 2nd team outfield Great honors for those three individuals on a truly great team!
25.
Wow! The Rebels are losing that many players next year?
We are not focusing on what we are loosing, especially since the school year has not even started yet. But we appreciate your concern BC. Just to ease your mind the last time the Rebels lost a big senior class (9 guys) in 2009 the Rebels recovered just fine and went 10-0 in the regular season. Having the JV program playing 2A and 3A teams just allows Evadale's freshmen and sophomores the opportunity to play and gain experience without having to be thrown to the wolves, so to speak. Having those young men tested on the field instead of standing on the sidelines allows Coach Williams the reload option instead of having to rebuild every year. It seems to be working too! 3rd place finishes in district in 2006 and 2007 and playoff appearances. An undefeated district championship in 2008 and another playoff appearance. And finally a 10-0 regular season and another district championship and still another playoff appearance. If you follow the logical progression then you get 2010 as another step in the playoff progression. This large group of seniors has been in the playoffs every year they have played. They have won the last two district championships, they have won two of the last three years of JV championships against district teams that played JV football. So again BC thanks for the concern and we can't wait for our return trip to Burkeville on Oct 8th. See Ya!
