As a Baylor Alum I can say that I am proud of the run that the Bears made this season. Coach Drew deserves all the credit for coming in and turning a program that was all but gone into a respectable and still up and coming program. Finishing as the NIT runner up last year and as an Elite 8 team this year will be huge with recruiting this year and there are plenty of pieces coming back for next season. The Big 12 may not be the best basketball conference in the country, but they come pretty close. I think that the Bears will be looked at as one of the top teams in preseason polls. Thanks to the Bears for being a class act throughout the season and the NCAA tournament.

I was wondering if there are any of you who have sons like mine? I have been subjected to "The Countdown" at least once a week since Evadale's football playoff loss to Mart with how many days it was until football starts for 2010. This will be his senior season and of course with so many of his teammates returning for next season he is of course excited about the possibilities and with Evadale being in the Division 2 bracket that has even increased his excitement. If the date of August 2nd is correct we only have 132 days to wait for the start of practice. Which also means that Evadale's "Midnight Madness" is only 137 days away. If you have never been it's worth showing up for. It's a great tradition and our kids love the fact that they are some of the first in the state to "strap on the pads". There is still plenty of baseball, softball, track, tennis, golf and yes for the larger schools soccer left in this school year, but don't blink too hard or you just might miss your summer have Friday Night Lights shining in your window as you drive past your favorite school.

The Rebels are now 5-0 in district and 9-1 overall. In district play they have scored double digits on every team except SP. The Rebels still have two more district games to play in the first half against Leggett and Big Sandy, but it looks favorable for the Rebels to finish the first half undefeated. Coach Williams is scheduling some Saturday games against upper classification schools to sharpen the Rebels, like WOS last weekend. Even falling to the Mustangs is a learning situation as the Rebels need to stay sharp and play against different competition and different pitching to prepare for future playoff teams. Great job Rebels, keep it rolling!

WOS vs EVADALE Updates..WO-S Wins 11-0/Comments
Rebel Yeller replied to GET a HIT #24's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Talk about a "Everything to win and nothing to loose" game. Evadale by stepping on the field is the winner. This will be the second 3A team that the Rebels will have faced in 8 days. The first time came out just fine for the Rebels as they defeated Cleveland. The Rebels are trying to better themselves and prepare for later in the season when the competition get more and more difficult. Now if the Rebels win on Saturday there just might have to be some serious consideation of the Rebels being included in the SETX rankings if for no other reason than the fact that they are playing up two classes while they are in the middle of district play. So we will see when the two teams get together tomorrow. Keep it rolling Rebels, we believe, now its time to convince everyone else! -
The Final Poll of the year should be the only poll that is a no brainer. #1 State Champion #2 Runner Up 3 & 4 The two semi finalists 5-8 The regional Runner Ups 9-16 The reginal semi finalists 17-20 Well these could be debated We say it on threads all the time that its on the court or the field that matters. Teams can't pick and choose their district, area, or region that they play in so the arguement that a team comes from a weak one is just that "WEAK". If a team is eliminated then they are eliminated and that is that. 1-16 earned their spot in the rankings by defeating the teams they had to to advance. So I say that the Pirates should have been ranked at 3 or 4 and nothing lower!

It was a large meet with some great times and distances recorded by many athletes and their schools. The Girls champion was Zavalla with New Waverly finishing 2nd. New Waverly was the boys champion with Evadale finishing 2nd. Several athletes from our 1A district had an outstanding meet. Monkes from HI was incredible, while Colmesneil had I believe 1st and 2nd in the pole vault, The distance runnner from Big Sandy was amazing. The 1A relays held their own with the 2A schools that were present so all in all I believe that their are more than a few athletes that have a chance to advance to regionals and maybe on to state. Great job to Coach Conner and all the Evadale coaches for a great meet!

Perfect track weather for a meet. The Evadale track is ready as are all the field event sites. The sand pits were covered so they are not wet and everything is ready for a great track meet. 15 teams are signed up to be involved with a couple more that are on Spring Break that still might show up. Hope everyone can get out and see some of the meet beginning at 3:15 with the running of the 3200. Field events start at 4 with the running event 30 minutes after the field events are completed.

Tucker looks like he has found his stroke as he homered in back to back at bats. With him in the 3 spot and Franklin in the 4 it makes it tough for teams to pitch around either of them. Add in that most of the starting line up are stroking the ball pretty good and playing good defense, things look good for the Rebels. Not talking about the second season, yet, but looking good so far.

This discussion has gotten off track! This always happens on these threads. The topic is will Evadale make the playoffs and if so how long will thay last? It is not the Chase Franklin thread. I think Chase is a great kid, but I know him well enough to say that he realizes that it takes a team to win. Golf, tennis and even some forms of track and filed can measure individual achevement, but team sports are just that "TEAM". With that fact in mind the Rebel team is off to a great start. 6-0 with a 2-0 district record. All the team can do is play the games that are on the schedule and let the chips fall where they may. It looks to me that the Rebels have a chance to run the table in district, but that is why they play the games. A pitcher might get hot, one team might have their bats come to life, a bad call or a blown assignment, an injury or illness. Baseball is a game of percentages and someone who hits 300 is considered a good hitter. A quarterback who only hit 3 out of 10 passes would not be highly rated. Lets see how the Rebels record looks in late April when I believe that the Rebels will be looking at the playoffs and once that is done then we can look at the other teams that are in their bracket and make some educated predictions about the Rebels chances to advance.
Great job on the JH meet yesterday....
Thanks, Coach Conner runs a good meet and it is nice to see so many of the JH kids get ribbons. There are some great young athletes from SETX and all of them did a great job. Hope to see you on Thursday. For BCdkru there are 15 teams signed up Evadale, Colmesneil, West Hardin, High Island, Sabine Pass, Deweyville, Kountze, New Waverly, Buna, Zavalla, Legacy and that's all that I can remember. Hull-Daisetta and Chester were at the junior high meet but I am not sure about them for the Rainey Relays.
-
Evadale will host the 47th Annual Rainey Relays on Thursday on their newly resurfaced track. This should be an excellent smaller school track meet with 15 teams competing with mostly 1A schools but several 2A and even a 3A school in the mix. With the great weather from the last week and the Evadale coaching staff keeping the sand pits covered to keep them dry even with the rain a couple of weeks back everything should be in perfect shape for the meet. Things get underway with the field events at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon and the athletic booster club invites everyone to come by the newly remodeled concession stand to sample everything on the menu. Visitors will also get to take a look at the improvements that are being made to the Evadale campus. The new fence including the Green Monster in left field on the baseball field, the new outfield fence and pressbox on the softball field, the ongoing construction to the new AG facility behind the football field and possibly the foundation for the new weight and fitness building that will also have bathrooms that will service the visitors side of the football field. Renovations to the pressbox and the home bleachers are also planned and scheduled for the summer. If you like track and field this will be one of your best opportunities to see some of the best small school teams in all of SETX. Hope to see you in Rebel Land on Thursday!

SETXsports Top 10 High School Baseball
Rebel Yeller replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Top 10 coming this afternoon!
I hope you will consider Evadale breaking into the top ten as they are 6 and 0 for the young season. They have wins over three 1A teams, West Sabine, Sabine Pass and High Island. Two wins over 2A teams Hardin and Anahuac and one 4A team Cleveland. I am not sure exactly what a teams resume needs to break into the top ten, but I would imagine the there are a few teams on the preseason list that do not have half of their victories in classifications above theirs. The Rebels are averaging 11 runs a game while they are only giving up under 4, including two shut outs. This is a team that made it to the Regionla semi finals last season and only lost two senior off that squad. They added a couple of quality players that transfered in this year and they still only have three seniors that are starting. They have four quality pitchers with a couple of others that propably won't get much time on the hill this season. Solid defensive infield with speed in the outfield. Offensively the bats are being productive, they scored 15 against Cleveland! Just wanted to make the case for the Rebels, as I believe that they have what it takes to be one of the success stories for SETX this season. -
You've got to hand it to the Rebels. They are 6-0 with three wins against 1A opponents and two 2A victories and now a 3A victory over Cleveland. They are averaging eleven runs a game and even with the runs they gave up to Cleveland they still are holding opponents to less than four per game. The Rebels will start their third week of practice and they heart of the district schedule is coming up. They are already 2-0 in district and look to be the team to beat. This team has all the components to make it to the top. A deep pitching staff, good defense in the infield, speed in the outfield, great bats, excellent coaching and a desire to make it further in 2010 than they went in 2009. GREAT JOB REBELS, KEEP IT ROLLING AND DON'T LET UP!

Evadale over High Island 20-1
Rebel Yeller replied to trophyman's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was there until the score re3ached 13-1 in the bottom of the third, wow. I was commenting to someone that it had been three years ago when HI and Evadale had tied for district and had to play a playoff game for the #1 seed heading into the playoffs, which HI won. I know these are young men, but the HI squad looked ver young. I am sure they will get better, but it could be a long season for the Cards. The Rebels are now 5-0 with a championship in their tournament and two district victories. They have scored 56 runs in those games allowing only 10. The pitching looks solid with Tucker, Franklin, DuBose and Potts looking like the staff that Coach Williams will depend on this season. With Harvey and Murphy available if ever needed. The infield looks solid with the only changes coming when one of the pitchers in on the hill and not at his position between the bases. The outfield has good speed with Cravey in Left, Anthony in center and Harvey in right. The bats are awakening as they should remembering that the team has only been practicing for two weeks and 5 of those 11 days had games. The team is playing Cleveland this afternoon in what should be a good test for the Rebels. Keep it rolling Rebels and good things will happen ! -
Catfish Festival to Expand All Star Games
Rebel Yeller replied to Rebel Yeller's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Now that the season is over with the State championship games today, an updates on the All-Star games. The 1A letters to coaches went out on Friday and the 2A & 3A letters will go out by mid week. Coaches will nominate seniors that will be invited to participate and I hope all the coaches that receive the nomination forms will return them as soon as possible so the invitations can be made. If any one know's of a business that would like to help sponsor this event that looks to be a showcase event for high school basketball you can send me a PM an I will get you in touch with the right people. Hope every who loves basketball will keep May 8th clear on their calendar for four games with some of the best talent from SETX being a part of the games, and oh course you can enjoy the Catfish Festival too! -
I saw the Pirates receiving their medals on the news tonight. I know that they wanted one more game and a shot at the title, but they did themselves and all of Spurger proud. On the court I know that Evadale and Spurger are rivals, but as the parent of an athlete I know that every parent would be proud of the way that these young men handled themselves today. In life we are more often judged by the way we overcome the failures in life than the way we celebrate victories. Stand tall Pirates, be proud of what you accomplished and treasure the memories of what you have done this season. You will look back in years to come and wonder what if, but know that you had the opportunity to even dream when so many others finished their seasons before you. Best of luck to all the young men that wear the maroon and white. Good luck in D2 next year!

Evadale vs. Sabine Pass...Evadale Wins!!
Rebel Yeller replied to GET a HIT #24's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Just spoke to Coach Williams and this one is still on after the JV finishes with a game that starts at 4 PM. This game will likely be for which team has the inside track to the district crown. SP looked good at times during the Evadale Tournament, but the Rebels look to be in mid season form, just a week into practice and only three games played. Tonight they start counting. Take it to the Sharks Rebels! -
Billy Nichols from Evadale could hold his own at any classification he manages the game well and can gun em down at second base!

Spurger vs Cayuga predictions
Rebel Yeller replied to bobcatfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
On another thread I predicted that the Pirates would be making a second trip to Austin this weekend after winning the regional tournament and it proved to be true. I think that the Pirates are poised to bring home the hardware this weekend. Now only two more games will determine if another prediction will come true, but hey I'm on a roll! Contrats to Spurger and all the Pirates on the regional victory. Now just keep on taking care of business at least for to more games! -
The Evadale Rebels won the West Hardin track meet today. Beside the Rebels their were teams from Colmesneil, High Island, Hull-Daisetta, Kountze, Newton, Sabine Pass, Warren and West Hardin. Not sure if the 2A's brought their entire squad, but it was a great way to start the track season. I had to leave before the meet was over, but my son informed me when he got home. Great job Coach Conner and the Rebel track team. The Lady Rebels finished 4th as well.

How many seniors does each team lose?
Rebel Yeller replied to Bobcat1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Evadale loses 4, 1 starter Herrington and 3 reserves Ballard, Stringer and Whitehead. Should be a good year for the Rebels with four starters and three proven reserve players returning next year.
