1.
Good luck Coach Bryant and Evadale
Not exactly sure why, but Coach Mark Williams is back as the Rebels skipper now.
2.
didnt mean to offend any one srry (evadel dad) lol but i watched some of yalls games last year and unless they have improved alot over the summer they wont go past the second round
1. I don't have a son on the team 2. Our pitchers (3 of the 4) carried the team as deep as they did last year. I agree it is difficult to replace a pitcher like Garrett Landis, but they said the same thing last year about replace the Rebel ace when it was David Drake. Let the guys play a couple of games and then the discussions about the pitching staff will be a bit more valid.

4. The Evadale Catfish Festival will expand the number of All Star Basketball games that they hold during the festival to give more players one last opportunity to hit the hardwood! This year there will be four games two girls and two guys all on May 8th Game #1 @ 11 AM featuring 3A/2A Girls Game #2 @ 1 PM featuring 3A/2A Boys Game #3 @ 3 PM featuring 1A/2A Girls Game #4 @ 5 PM featuring 1A/2A Boys The reason that the teams will be mixed is due to not knowing just how many athletes will respond to the invitation to take part in the games. Nomination forms will be sent to area coaches asking for their nominees of senior players that they believe are deserving of being an all star in about a week. Once the nominations have been received then players will be contacted by the festival and arrangements will be made for a couple of practices for each team. The games will be played in the gym at Evadale and one admission will be good for all four games. The proceeds from the games will go towards the King & Queen Scholarship fund. The festival is also still seeking sponsors for the games and can be contacted at 409 276-1470 to help put on this very special event. Just thought that the SETX Sports family would like to know that Evadale is doing what we can to promote basketball in our area and to highlight some great players while doing what we can to help with the continued education of our student right here at home.
5. I was at practice yesterday afternoon and the Rebels have a simular advantage in baseball that they do in football and that is numbers. There were 28 young men out at practice yesterday with 16 on the varsity and 12 on the JV. Since they did not loose a large number of players from last years team that made it to the regional semi-final there is no real reason to think that a simular run is not in the cards. Strosfan questioned pitching as a potential problem for the Rebels, but I saw DuBose pitching yesterday and he looks pretty good especially since this is still before the first game. I know Potts and Harvey are ready both of them have been conditioning only since the end of football season. There are at least two or three others on the roster that have pitched on varsity or on JV including Tucker and Murphy. So I am not quite sure what the fan is talking about. I am not sure there are too many team from any classification that have 5 maybe 6 pitchers that you can rotate on the mound. During fielding practice each position had at least 3 players (both varsity and JV) at every position including catcher and four in all three outfield spots. just a reminder of what the Rebels have back C      Nichols - Junior - All District 2009 1st    Tucker - Junior - All State DH 2009 2nd  Ousley - Senior - All district 2009 SS    Potts - Junior - All District 2009 3rd    DuBose - Senior - All District 2009 LF      Cravey - Senior CF    Anthony - Senior - All District 2009 RF    Harvey - Junior - All District 2009 SS/3rd - Franklin - Junior - All District 2009 LF      Hawthorne - Soph 1st    Swift - Junior C        Gore - Junior SS      Murphy - Soph Plenty of talent and another year of JV games means that the younger talent will be  playing and not sitting getting experience and having the chance to be on the roster during the playoffs. I thinks that the Rebels will have an outstanding season that will top even last year and I would say that it looks good for the next several years as well.
6. I stopped in at practice today in Evadale. Just like in football the Rebels have numbers! 16 on varsity and 12 on the JV. Not sure if any one was missing today or not. DuBose was on the mound early in practice and his velosity looks good. When you put both squads together during fielding practice they are three deep at every position including catcher. It will be interesting to get things started on Thursday with the tournament. I believe that the team will be ahead of where you might think they would be considering having to wait for the start of practice due to the basketball playoffs. Hope folks are ready for the Green Monster in left to left center. It should make for some interesting plays off of it during games.
7. To ALL the Rebels that are reading this thread! Just play ball and everything will work out fine. We can revisit this discussion later in the season, just have fun and get after it!
8. Congrats to the Pirates! You are doing a great job representing our district. I could only have wished that we could have pulled out a victory in our overtime loss to Somerville. We might have gotten a shot at a rematch with you guys. Oh Well! Keep on keeping on Pirates and best of luck at the regional tournament!
9. I am interestd to know what to expect from the teams in our district. I know the Rebels have almost all of last year's regional semi final team coming back, but I want to know what the other teams are thinking about their squads and the chances for 2010.
10. With the unfortunate end to the Rebels basketball season Evadale can still take heart as the Rebels hit the diamond today. One thing about 1A sports the next one is always only a day behind the last season. The Rebels will return a veteran team that lost in the regional semi final last season as only two seniors graduated from last years team. Junior All State DH Tyler Tucker will get plenty of attention and he will challenge the new Green Monster in left field at Rebel Ballpark. The Rebels will bring back plenty of pitching this season with senior Hayden DuBose, juniors Dustin Potts, Chris Harvey and Tucker might even see some time on the hill. The Rebels also have a couple of talented pitchers who were on the JV squad past season. The Rebel infield returns intact from 2009 with Tucker on 1st, senior Tyler Ousley on 2nd Potts at Short Stop and Dubose at 3rd and junior catcher Billy Nichols. Harvey can play 3rd as well and Devon Murphy can pitch or play SS. Look for junior Chase Franklin to play multiple positions to get his bat in the line up. Senior Dillon Anthony will likely be in center field with other good gloves and fast feet vying for the start in left. New skipper Billy Bryant takes over for Mark Williams, but don't think that Coach Will will be too far away as he will be working to help develop younger, new talent while still being involved with the varsity Rebels. There are high hopes for this years baseball team, but only time will tell if the Rebels can return to their form of last year and once again make a playoff run. All the pieces are in place and soon the ump will say "play ball!" and then we will see what happens!
11.
That is awesome Yeller! Apparently, the HI boys won't be at the Evadale tourney as they have been MANY times in the past. Haven't quite gotten the whole story there, but oh well. We'll see you soon though!
You bet, District will be here in what will seem just a couple of days! Good Luck to the Carninals on the beginning of their season.
12. Sorry i missed the game last night! I got reports and it sounded very possitive. Even when it went into overtime I liked our chances. This team has come a long way in a few short years. Coach Wilkins has done a great job preparing the Rebels to compete at this level and I am sure that the "wait till next year" chants will begin very soon...if they have not already. Congrats on a gret season Rebels!
13. Sorry I missed the game! Everyone is proud of the Lady Rebels for their continued success. I can say that these young ladies have played together and it showed as they fought back in the end to win. Continue to take it one game at a time and give it your all!
14.
Rebel does Evadale have a JV?
Yes they do.
15. The Evadale Catfish Festival will be hosting a rag ball tournament to raise money for the King & Queen Scholarship Fund. The tentative date is April 17th in Evadale. No real details set yet, but the festival would like ot get a guage on the interest so you can call and leave a message at 276-1470 and someone will get back with you. Last year the King & Queen Scholarship Fund gave out three $1000 scholarships to three Evadale graduates and the Festival would like to match that or exceed that number and amount this year.
16. Great Job Lady Rebels! Sorry I was not able to be there for the game, but it sounds like you took care of business just fine without me!
17.
Court, I saw that post like you did. A little sour grapes if you ask me. Get beat so you look for another way out. ;D
Not at all Ag I was at the game and the Pirates played very well and the Rebels did not at least in the first half. We in the 1A ranks have to deal with things you guys in 3A do not have to for instance having your district change for every sport. When Silsbee finds out who is in district they know who they play for everything. In 1A we have differernt teams in volleyball, basketball, football, softball and baseball. Yea there are a few that are in all of them, but we all like rivals that we can get pumped up about, but if the teams change from sport to sport that makes those type of game difficult. If all the schools played all the sports then it might make for less shuffling when it comes to district. If my post was sour grapes I would have said something about baseball that is still coming up instead of a sport that Spurger does not have. Again to Court Side and all the Spurger fans great game and great season. I hope that you have a terrific run in the playoffs just as I hope that the Rebels do! Oh and Ag I hope the Tigers have a great run too. See us little guys can give props to the bigger schools even when we don't get it in return.
18.

Congrats to Spurger on winning the district. I thought it was interesting that the Sabine Pass team came in after thier game with HD. They were cheering for the Rebels since a victory would have made for a three way tie. The Rebels dug a deep hole in the first quarter and were never able to fully recover. I thought that the Rebels did a great job on George limiting him to only 6 points in the game. The difference last night for the Pirates was #34! 22 points and playing defense on Murphy all night holding him to 17. I know that the Rebels, Pirates and Sharks had some spirited games this season and all three are heading into the playoffs. Who knows their might be a repeat performance somewhere down the road for at least a couple of these teams. If not then we will see you both on the diamond once baseball starts. Oh and to the Pirates anytime you would like to start a football program and strap it on I feel confident that the Rebels would be more than happy to fit you into the schedule to help you get your program started.
Well no football in the near future, Your post was going good untill your last statment. Sounds like two 9yr olds on the play ground." my daddy is bigger then yours" Right after he gets smacked around a little bit
No smack intended. I do congratulate the Pirates on winning district. But can you truly say that there are not a few young men in Spurger that would not like to play football? I was simply saying we would love to help you get things started.
19. Progress on the Rebel Athletic Complex continues! The removation to the boys batting cage is just about complete and the new double batting cage by the softball diamond is coming along nicely. More updates as progress continues!
20. I don't work for Lamar or belong to Education First, but I do belong to a credit union. One of the things that I like about credit unions over banks is that they are usually locally focused. The banks are all for profit and are looking to do what is best for stock holders, not a bad thing, just their way of doing business and I am all for that. But, a credit union is more about the members AND the community that they serve. That service can come in all kinds of ways. I know that Education First helps area students with scholarships each year. In fact they give one to at least one student from every school in SETX if I am not mistaken. They give to other organizations that do work right here in the community. It's that local focus that draws most people to do business with the credit unions. Education First gave alot! of money to Lamar for the scoreboard that's a fact, but if they get a couple of businesses that like their community involvement and they more accounts and borrow money from them then the money won't be looked at as a gift or as advertisement, it will be looked at as a very good investment in the future of the credit union. If you are a Education First member ask yourself a few of questions... 1. Have they serviced your account properly? 2. Have they given you good service while you have been a customer? 3. Did they take the million dollars or any portion of it out of your personal account? If you answered Yes to 1 & 2 and No to #3 then I think you can feel pretty good about being a member of a credit union that takes an active role in the local community.
21. Congrats to Spurger on winning the district. I thought it was interesting that the Sabine Pass team came in after thier game with HD. 22.
just one correction RY the girls volleyball team missed the playoffs when they lost to goodrich in a match for third place in district. 1.West Hardin 2.Colmesneil 3.Goodrich Sorry just the way it was.............................. :)
I stand corrected! I remember now, I have just grown accustomed to the Lady Rebels being in all the playoffs that I just missed that one.
23. I believe that the Rebels will take this one in a close game, maybe even and overtime affair. I am just so proud of the Rebels who are on pace I believe to make the playoffs in all six team sports this season. The Rebels and Lady Rebels already have 2 of the four team district championships in Football and Girls Basketball both teams undefeated in district. The Volleyball and Boys Basketball teams both made or will enter the playoffs, the guys still have a chance to share the district crown in basketball. The baseball team is loaded and lookng for a deeper run than last years regional semi's and while they are rebuilding from the graduation of a large senior class the softball team looks to return to the playoffs and who knows challenge for the championship. It is a testimony to the hard work of all the Rebel and Lady Rebel the players and coaches. 2009-2010 has been and still looks to be a banner year for Evadale athletics.
24. Could it be the "Yates Factor"? Maybe Silsbee wanted to blow somebody up by 100 points and get teams looking at them the way that teams look at Yates. It would have to be an intemadting thing to see that your playoff opponet was scoring well over 100 points at this point in the season. I am more concedrned about LC's coach putting his team in the game for what it would do to them? Maybe LC got 1/2 of the gate receipts like the small schools that play the powerhouse NCAA teams in football. The world may never know!
25. I have no dog in this hunt as I am not a big Lamar fan, but I do know a little about construction and renovation. The additional money sounds like cost overruns that have exceded the contengency fund of the project. New construction is more precise in the bidding and contractors can be held to their bids except when it comes to change orders, but in remodeling you never know exactly what you are in for until you get into the project. I would venture a guess that some of the over runs would have to do with the structural soundness of the stands, but that is strickly a guess. You have to be sure that everything meets current codes that the orginal stadium never was built to meet. It all costs money. I am looking forward to having college football in SETX and will likely take in some Lamar games.
