1. Almost 20 years ago I followed basketball in Liberty Hill. The coach was Danny Henderson and he installed a run and gun style that took them to the State Semi Final where they lost to Abernathy in OT. The team averaged 101 points per game and even lost a game when they scored 100 once, Lake Travis score 103. In a game against Salado LH was up 99 to 26 at half. The game was finally called by the refs with almost 3 minutes left after the 5 intentional foul was called on Salado. The final was 156 to 59. In the district home and home at Salado they stalled the ball for all but about 3 minutes of the first half before LH could get unracked. LH still scored 88 points in the game. Certain styles are difficult to pull out of. It is no different from a team that runs a spread offense in football. They are not built to ground it out and take time off the clock, it's not in their nature. Teams will figure them out and some will stop them. If they don't then Yates will end up with a state title and a coach of the year.
 2. Great Job Lady Rebels Everyone will be in the gym now as football season ends. Anyone who knows basketball, knows that Evadale love their round ball. Stay focused and lets get busy winning another district title.
 3.
Your weak district comment is fine as long as your including Evadale in with all the other weak teams. They are the strongest in their district, but when they get outside their district they are weak.Mart is not that much bigger than Evadale. Texas football mag has Evadale at 145 and Mart at 184 that's 39 kids not that big a difference.
39 students can make a difference if you don't think so then just look at what is coming with the D1 D2 district alignments next season. Size does make a difference and soon you will see that every classification has D1 and D2 districts. I won't take anything from Mart who has an outstanding team, but in 2010 and beyond Evadale won't play the two other teams from 23A in district and could not face any of the three teams from 22A as they will all be in the larger school division if their numbers hold and the cut off is 150 +or -.
 4. Rebels hold your heads high! For the past four years the Rebel football program has progressed. for two years we were the third place team in district and made it into the playoffs. Last year we won the district and went undefeated in our 23A games this year we went 10-0 and won a second district championship. I be one of the first to say it..."Wait till next year!" To all the seniors you have continued on a growing tradition that will be a memory that you will cherish for the rest of your lives. No one will ever take 10-0 away from you. I can tell you from being on the sideline that this team has heart. I saw Shelby being wheeled off the field on a streacher and he said, "I need to be on the field!" I heard Chase after getting his bell rung and sustaining what appeared to be a concussion say, "Put me back out there coach!" I watched Tucker go down early and get back in the game after just a couple of plays. I watched Dillion sitting out with a hurt knee and standing with pain in his eyes strap on his helmet and go back on the field. You are not born with heart you develop it every day of your life. At the end of the game I saw Billy, Lane, Eli and others sobbing. Not that they lost the game, but feeling that they had let the seniors and the team down. Mart last year lost the D1 championship. They are the state runner up and have a long tradition of top level championship football. The Panthers knew they were in a game from start to finish. The Rebels hit them and pushed to the very end. I thought both teams played hard and with class. The Rebels will be back in 2010. They will have a great opportunity to play teams where they will be the bigger school. The Rebels have Every offensive and defensive lineman returning. They have 3 of 4 lie backers returning with three back ups that saw action last night. The quarterback and three of four running backs will be back and 1 of the four DB's is back. The JV had another great year with plenty of games and playing time and also plenty of wins. The goals have increased from year to year and with the realignment and divisional separation the 2010 Rebels will be a force to be reconded with. I know you are disappointed, but know that ALL of Evadale is proud of you! Thanks for a great season and remember hold your heads high!
 5. Lots of fight in those Bulldogs! Congrats on a great season and may your success continue into 2010.
One kid is playin, it's Dalton Woodrome Jacob Barnes is the one that was seriously injured he is doing better, He will be back to school in a few weeks
That is good to hear about both young men. You tell Jacob that there are plenty of people praying for him in Evadale. My he be fully recovered and suffer no long term effects from the injury.
 7. Hey Fan Thought you might get a kick out of this. I was looking back at an early season thread about this years 23A Football predictions and the closest thing I could find to anyone, including myself, picking the Bulldogs to be in the playoffs was a post you made about the numbers in the weight room this past summer. There were plenty of picks for Evadale and HD, but it split about WH, HI and even Chester as the third team. When 2010 rolls arouond be sure you pick the Dogs to finish near the top of your district. In Evadale we have found that this winning thing gets to be something that you really get to like and success breeds more success. Just letting you know I will be picking the Dogs high when the 2010 predictions hit the web.
 8.
there just not i dont care who is coming back
So much wisdom and only your third post. When you get to be a sophomore poster would you please let everyone know who will win the Kentucy Derby I know alot of people would love your insightful insider information to head to Louisiana to an OTB so they can rebuild their retirement funds. On SETX you usually need a bit more than "just cause!" when you make a prediction. I buzz you back in May when the Rebels are making thier run to state.
 9. Are any of the Chester players ones that were hurt in football? What are the conditions of the player that was seriouly injuried against HI. Had the young man in my prayers, but have not heard anything on him lately.
 10. Bulldogs you have an outstanding team that could truly make some waves in the D1 playoffs. Keep your focus and play your game. I will be lookng at the scoreboards late Friday night to see how you do. Go Dogs!
 11.
evadale will not make the playoffs
ninja Would you care to explain how a team that went to the Regional semi final round last year that lost only two players and has reloaded with talent from a JV squad that had a successful season and a couple of transfers added into the mix. Not to memtion having a junior that was the All-State DH from last year. I am interested in how you can say that the Rebels will not be in the playoffs?
 12.
I want to say one thing about those young men from Evadale. They have alot of heart and i know they will play their hearts out on Friday night.I do believe they will reach deep down inside themselves and fight for a win just like they always do....I am very proud of those young men and very, very proud of #24 because he is my son.... P.S I geuss i just let the cat out of the bag now about #24 but o well....I'm a very proud DAD.....
And proud you should be John Your son is a great young man who will go far in this life no matter what he does. He is polite, well mannered and a credit to the school and the team. Go ahead and bust your buttons with pride that is what being a parent is all about.

This season was very tough and the team has went through many hardships. But no matter what, yall will never forget playing under the Friday night lights and being a Bobcat. The older you get the more you will want to play again. So you Seniors go out there Thursday night in Conroe and play your hearts out, leave it all on the field and give it all you got. Embrace the cool playoff air and live in the moment. Observe the crowd and the Stadium and the brother hood you have built with your teammates. Lay it all on the line. I believe we can win this game. We still have the blood line of the legendary Monsters of the Big Thicket that won 43 straight games, we still have the tradition and the pride the four horseman and the 1979 State Champs built for us. Seniors it's time, time to play your hearts out. Reality says only the winner advances in the playoffs, but the person who gives it his all and has no regrets will always advance in life. Go Bobcats !!! Seniors are Jo Jo Walker, Jakarie Samuel, Jacolby Humphrey, Tim Taylor, Dominic Kudro, Tully Melonson, James Mangum, Brian Dempsey, Pat Roth, Colby Henry, Dustin Morrow, Seth Traywith, and Andy Tanner.
Good post 55
I agree. Leave it all on the field and may the best team win.
I responded to your post on the Evadale/Mart thread 9. Great stuff! Evadale has played Lovelady twice in playoff games and this bunch is for real. BUT, in watching film from the Lovelady/Mart game the best thing I can say to both the Bobcats and the Rebels is to go out and play your game. I saw some good athletes on the film, but neither team had Earl Campbell at running back or Payton Manning at QB. They are disciplined well coached teams, but so are the Bobcats and the Rebels. I played in the day when only district champions got to go to the playoffs and my team (not the Rebels) never made the playoffs. Both of my sons have had a chance to be in the playoffs and it has been my pleasure to watch those games. But win or loose I love Friday nights and I will miss having HD in district next year. Hope the coaches give us non district game together as it is always fun to "TALK THE TALK" with the Bobcat faithful! Good luck Bobcats against the Lions! If we both could win out it would be a war in a rematch for the regional crown. Now that would be some real TALKING!
 15.
Bottom line here is Evadale can win this game. Coach Slack invited me in to give the pre-game speech last year when HD played Mart and one of the things I emphasized is not being intimidated at all, and hitting them in the mouth from the opening whistle. They boys from Mart know how to win playoff games and they expect to win. That's a mindset that comes with tradition and attitude that is developed over years of experience and success. To the Rebel players, just remember, they put their cleats on one foot at a time just like you guys, they're just regular old kids from the country just like you guys are. Don't hesitate or do anything different than you've done all season long, just be even more hyped up and relentless than you were when you played HD and Colmesneil this year. Althleticism and mistakes will play a factor in the final score, but if you make a mistake, make it going 100mph and play with reckeless abandon. Mart got the better of HD last year, but not many people know the whole story, they just saw the final score. At the end of the first quarter, Mart had ran 4 plays for a total of 3 yards. They scored on a punt return, then on a short field after we fumbled the insuing kickoff. After we put together another long drive, on 3rd and 12 they completed a long pass down to the one and punched it in. We turned the ball over on downs just before halftime, and they scored on a fake field goal with :13 seconds left til halftime. The second half, just like the first quarter was a stalemate. In the end, they made enough plays and capitilized on HD's mistakes to win the game, and took that momentum on to a state championship game appearance. I personally don't think this year's Mart team is as good as last season, and that Evadale can beat them, if they play mistake free football. Good luck Rebels and as other's have said, make district 23-A proud. Whether we want to admit it or not, most of the folks down in Hull-Daisetta are pulling for you guys!! P.S. On another note, Coach Nail and his coaching staff, players, and the fans of Mart were nothing but class last year. Very respectful group of folks. I saw Mart back in the Cosby boy's days in 2A and against EC and they were a little less than perfect class. I think that is gone and you will see nothing but class from Mart this Friday.
Thanks 9 - sounds like you were able to give two pregame talks before teams played Mart. - Good luck to HD against Lovelady!
 16. Now fella's Baseball is still several months away and lots of things can happen. We in Evadale are excited to have Chase back in the Rebel fold. The baseball team looks stacked and after last years run in the playoffs I am sure that all the guys are getting a bit ready to hit the diamond, but their is still basketball not to mention football that still has to be played. Dalton, I am not sure what Evadale did to you? From your posts you have been very disrespectful to the Rebels. That is of course you privilage, but it is not cool on SETX Sports to call anyone out personally. We in Evadale were saddned by the misfourtune that happened to the Jackets in football. I believe that we have shown your school nothing but understanding. Talk bad about us if you like, but please keep the individuals out of it at least in the negative way.

 22. Did we forget that this is all about the kids! We get to come on SETX and talk about our teams for one simple fact and that is because our KIDS play the games. Do I believe that the Rebels will win on Friday...YES I DO. Will I kick all of them under the bus if they don't...NO I WON'T! None of us get to pick the district that we are in we are just assigned one. Schedules are made for two years in a row with a home and home format. The coaches will set those schedules mostly on the day that realignment comes out. If you have a really clear crystal ball you might be able to predict what kind of team that a school might have next year, but you never know for sure and there is no way to tell what a team will be like in two years when you play the second game of the two. Our kids play who they are told to play. Evadale did not get to pick who they get to play in the playoffs. Would we choose someone else, maybe, but have you looked at our part of the bracket. If you are the regional champion in this region then you are a bunch of studs. I won't call anyone names, and if your opinion on the outcome is different than mine so be it. I know that a group of young men in Evadale did something very special over the past 11 weeks and nothing will take that away. We all would like to add another state championship momument in front of the school gym, but even if we don't I will remain a "Proud Rebel" and will come on this site to sing their praises for hard working players, coaches and fans. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
 23. I won't do what others have done on the Evadale/Mart thread and say Lovelady 55 HD 0 Since Lovelady beart Mart and Evadale beat HD. That would take all the fun out of the game since it would be already decided before the Bobcats even get on the bus and head for the game. So I won't do that, no not this guy!
 24.
I agree HD...Mart will roll..Evadale just simply outmatched in the game...Mart as bad as they want in this one.
I guess we should save the fuel and stay home. People have the Rebels loosing before the ink is dry on Mart's game last night. Just let the team play the game and then we will see.
 25. One final post on the poll Aggie. For you personally what would it take for you, no one else, to vote for a lower classification school to be ranked #1 in the poll. I am not argueing, pleding or begging. I would just like to know what it would take to get your vote for any small school (not just Evadale) to be the #1 team over the other 2A and 3A schools? Or in your opinion, could it ever happen?
