1.
Coach of the year usually goes to a coach that has improved a program from last year.  Even though I am a Dayton fan I would say that comparing this year to last year nobody has done more for a program than Faircloth.  This has been proven all season.
Only one flaw in your theory, when they announce the classification coaches of the year their are only two candidates, the D1 champions coach and the D2 champion coach. Coach of the year has become about winning. Faircloth has done both rebuild and win, so he gets the nod in 4A. District winning coaches will get the nod in most of the other districts. That is just the way it tends to go.
 2. OK Aggie I understand Could I make another suggestion that might be better recieved? I saw the first girls basketball ranking today and they break it up 5A-3 and 2A-Private. I would think that might be a better fit. There are more 1A schools in the area than 5A's so if you added the 3A's to the upper poll it would make for a better dispursion of teams. What are your thoughts on that?
 3.

First let me say that even for all of my posts about rankings the only one that I was ever really serious about was ro try to get the powers that be to make one more division in this poll so that 3A and 2A were separated from 1A and private. Can Evadale be Kirbyville, Newton or Silsbee? It would not be a really good bet to go for the Rebels or any 1A or private school for that matter against those schools or any in the 3A-Private poll, But I make this arguement one final time. A 1A team all be it my beloved Rebels completed a perfect regular season. They defeated all comers who the faced and if you can believe it they were behind for a total of 3:21 to any team all season long. They were tied on a couple of occasions, but only behind for 3:21, that impressive you have to admit. They shut out five teams in ten games. They allowed 53 points the entire season. Only 25 in six district games (I did not count the forfeit game in these totals except the victory). With all that said the only 1A or private school team with one of only two perfect 10-0 seasons is number 7 in the final poll. Consider that this might be the best (I know many might debate the point) team in 1A in many years. Do you think that another team will ever put up a more impressive resume that would allow them to rise above #7. The arguement was that there are not enough teams in the 1A-Private divisions with 8 from 23A, 4 in the TAPPS district that Legacy is in and 4 (I believe) in Kelly's district, Don't you think you could see your way clear to make a 1A-Private top 5 in 2010. I do enjoy seeing how teams are ranked, but I just believe that no 1A-Private school will ever be good enough to rise in this poll we way that it is presently set up. Good luck to all the ranked teams and the unranked ones that are heading into the playoffs, bring home some hardware to SETX!
What did you say? Say that again. ;D BTW, we would only rank Legacy and Kelly due to the fact the other teams in their districts are not in our area. That's the reason for not enough teams.
Are Cleveland, Dayton, Goose Creek and even Jasper (75 miles from Beaumont) really in SETX? What kind of resume would a 1A or private school need to break into even the top 5 of the poll as it stands now?  Just a couple of questions that I have.

 5. It's Monday after this big game and I believe it lived up to the hype. I trully great game. To Colmesneil - YOU GUYS ARE A CLASS ACT AND I WISH YOU THE BEST IN THE D1 PLAYOFFS! Anyone at the game knows you put your heart and soul into the game. You fought back and almost pulled it out in the forth quarter. To all those who doubted the Rebel defense, I hope that you took note that all but one quarter the Rebels held the Bulldogs scoreless. I give them credit for scrapping and scoring in the final period, but they had to put forth a lot of effort to dig out of the 14-0 whole from the 1st quarter. The Rebels did once again score on defense as they have in serval games this season. To those that doubted the Rebel offense, two drives should answer any questions about that. The opening drive of the game was a patented Rebel offensive drive 12 plays 5:30 minutes and a score before the Bulldogs ever touched the ball. Then after Colmesneil went ahead 18-14 the Rebels responded in championship form. A 55 yard drive that took 3:21 off teh clock and put the Rebels back on top. This year the Rebels did something only one other SETX team did and that is to go undefeated. They and I don't claim that they would beat every other team in the area regardless of classification. Argue all you want about the district, the non district opponents and anything else you like. The Rebels played the schedule they had arranged two years ago. They represented no matter who they lined up against. They allowed the second fewest points in 1A this year. They are 17-1 in their last 18 games. They have back to back undefeated district championships. They are going to the playoffs for the forth straight year. These are the facts. I acknowledge that there are breaks that happen in the course of a season, but to go undeefeated means that you overcome those breaks and play through to the end. From the first scrimmage to the end of last Friday's game the Rebels were behind for a total of 3:21. That is an amazing stat! I love the effort from teams in 23A and I can assure all the member schools that the Rebels will do everything they can to represent the district well in the playoffs. I look forward to crossing paths again in basketball, baseball and on the track.
 6. As I said last week thins question got answered last Friday night. Nichols from Evadale scored two offensive and one defensive touchdown in the biggest district game of the year. He also enginnered the winning drive for the Rebels. Eaves did some fine running for Colmesneil and picked up some good yardage, but he did not score and his running mate Berry was the leading ground gainer for the team. The 23A MVP for 2009 has to be Billy Nichols, he is the Rebels team leader and they are undefeated this year. The best player on the best team, hands down!
 7.
lol..you guys don't forget that earlier in this thread dawgfan was shown to be from a city other than Colmesneil just trying to stir up trouble..... Good luck to all three of the District 23-A reps in the upcoming playoffs......
I know fan, you guys have been nothing but classy leading up to the game and during it. I wish the Bulldogs great success in the D1 bracket. Go out and show some of these 23A nay sayers what we are made of. Now I can say it...Go Rebels...Go Bulldogs! I can even say go Bobcats at least for a couple of rounds.
 8.
Does Anybody else think that evadale is overated???
Well Dawgfan what is your answer today? I will give the Bulldogs plenty of props as they never gave up and made last nights game a classic. Evadale can thank you for ignighting a spark that I believe will serve them well when they begin the playoffs. Colmesneil is the first team to have a lead on the Rebels all season long but unfortunately it lasted only about three minutes. Think about that not only did the Rebels go undefeated 10-0, but they only trailed one team for 3 minutes in the entire season. The Rebel defense gave up 53 points this season that is an average of 5 per game. Only four teams scored out of the 9 actual games that were played. four shut outs not counting the Chester forfeit. 18 points is the most given up in any game this season. 25 points given up in 6 district games for an average of 4.1 points per game. 200 yards was the most yards given up by the Rebels in any game this season. in the last 18 games the Rebels are 17-1 they have back to back undefeated district championships they are going to the playoffs for the forth straight year. Want to think about something else. The Rebels have every offensive and defensive lineman returning in 2010. TheQB, fullback and both tight ends are also coming back.  Three of the four linebackers will be back and one of the three DB's will be back.. Plus their JV went 6-1 this season and will have plenty of players to step into positions being vacated by seniors. Overrated, the best is still to come!
 9. This was a classic contest between two fine teams . Both teams entered the game on long winning streaks and both played to their strengths in the game. Colmesneil put up moore yardage on the Rebels than any team this season according to the press box stats which are mot official, They gained 215 yards on the ground for all of thier total yards. No team had put up more than 150 yards on the Rebel defense all year. Berry for the Bulldogs had 135 yards on the teams total and is as fast as advertised. He scored two TD's last night. The Rebels did it they way they have done all year they did it with defense. They shut the Bulldogs out in the first half allowing only a long field goal attempt that was short. They forced two turn overs one of which was recovered in the end zone for a TD. The "D" has scored in several games this season. The Rebel offense took the opening possession and marched straight down the field on an 11 play 60 yard drive that took 5:30 off the clock. As has been the pattern the defense went to work and thats when they scored on the fumble. The second half saw the Bulldogs get their offense cracked up putting together a 16 play drive, but the Rebels forced them to turn it over on downs without points. The Bulldogs were able to move the ball, and score twice on the Rebel defense, even taking the lead in the game 18 to 14 with 6 minutes still remaining. Then came "THE DRIVE!" A 45 yard kick off return at 28 yard pass completion from Nichols to Starks a 31 yard run by Stanley  an 11 yard run by Franklin then Nichols takes it in from the three for the go ahead TD. 21-18 Rebels Then it was only fitting that the Rebels D had to face the Bulldog O one last time. The Bulldogs ran 10 plays picked up 2 first downs one on forth down by just the nose of the football, but in the end the Rebels rose up  and stopped the Bulldogs and preserved their undefeated season and defended their 23A district crown. Great Job Rebels, now its time to rattle the sabers in the playoffs!

 11.
Congrats Evadale in joining PNG in the undefeated ranks.
Congrats back at ya PNG. It has been 32 years since PNG has gone undefeated according to Channel 6 and for the Rebels as far as I can find out this is the first time that Evadale has ever gone undefeated. I can say tonights game was one of the most exciting games I can recall ever seeing. You have to hand it to the Bulldogs from Colmesneil, they never gave up. But I can'tsay enough about the character of the Rebels on their final drive to retake the lead after they fell behind 18-14. Now it is no to the playoffs and its a week before we find out who we play next, Dawson or Mart who meet at bi-district next week. This is the forth straight trip to the playoffs for the Rebels the first two as the 3rd place team and the last two as undefeated district champions. Coach Mark Williams has built a program that the community is so proud of and that greater things are expected from year to year. In the last 18 games the Rebels are 17-1. Now the job is to make a mark in the playoffs and who knows? The Rebels can take great pride in the fact that they have gone undefeated in district for the past two seasons. They will be the last 23A champions before the division format goes into place next year. For anyone who does not get the opportunity two watch "iron man football" 1A style I feel sorry for you. teams like Evadale, Colmesneil, Hull-Daisetta, West Hardin, High Island, Sabine Pass and Burkeville have players going both ways some never leaving the field their are no specillists just young men doing what it takes to be a part of their team and hopefully be a part of a winning team. Thanks for a great season 23A I know we will see you later in basketball and baseball hope are teams continue to reach for the stars because they are all full of so many stars it is hard to count them all.
 12.
Evadale JV 28 Colmesneil JV 14.....
With the JV Rebels victory they are 6-1 this year and the district champs, all be it that there are so few JV teams in 23A. Their only lost was to Anahuac. In the past three years the Rebel JV is 6-2 in 2007, 7-1 in 2008 and 6-1 this year. It is the reason that the Rebel program is on the rise and players have been ready to make the step up to the varsity. There are some talented players that will step into the holes that will come from graduation this year. There are skill players and linemen who will increase the Rebels depth and make them a team that should be state ranked at the beginning of the season next year. JMO, but only time will tell.
 13. I really felt like the Cardinals would be the spoilers this season. I even predicted taht they would snag a playoff spot. i also thought that the Sharks might have turned a corner as they had decent numbers at the beginning of the season. So who wins the battle of the beach? HI 28 SP  7
 14. I would have to give HD the nid in this contest. I just believe that Bobcats have too much for the Mustangs. There is great improvement in Burkeville, but HD has motivation to head inot the playoffs with a victory, so I will say HD 21 Burkeville 7
 15. I agree with The Cardinal Fan The MVP will be decided Friday night in Evadale. If the Rebels win then I think Nichols is a lock for MVP if the Bulldogs win then Eaves  will get the nod. I believe the same is true when it come to Coach of the year in the district the team that wins their coach will get the honor. I am not taking anything away from Coach Harper and the job he has done at Burkeville, I would even consider the job and the difficult situation at Chester to consider Coach Franklin, Coach Westfall did a fine job in a rebuilding year at WH as did the HD coach and the SP coach. I believe that our district is filled with great talent and outstanding coaching and I don't mind saying so. Friday night will be a bittersweet night as it will probably be the last time our district looks like it does today. The D1 D2 division will mean smaller districts in order to fill out the bracket so in the future games between Evadale and HD, WH and HI and Colmesniel and Sabine Pass will be non district games and just won't be the same. We all have had to be good for 7 weeks to have a chance at the playoffs we have been in district at least a week before any other district in the area. Our games have "counted" from game four on. I will miss the rivalries that have been many years in the making and when the D1's do line up against the D2's as I am sure they will do to fill out the schedules we can all look back and say, "Remember the good ole days of 23A and all those Friday night battles, now that was fun!"

I know that the Rebels have had a good week of practice and that their health is just fine. One of the injuried players (Cravey) should be cleared to play before the game even. This is going to be a great game and one that should make both teams better going into the playoffs. We all hear this weak district talk and this will be a test for both teams leading into the playoffs. Last year the Rebels had the district championship locked up with two games remaining on the schedule, but this year it all comes to this. This is like a playoff game and of course one team will leave as the 23A District Champions. I of course believe that it will be the Rebels, but in about 55 hours we will know for sure.
Yeller, I am pulling for Rebels as well. And NOT because Colmesneil just beat us. :-) I would love for a team in our district to go into playoffs completely undefeated. Evadale has had an awesome year - allowing, what like 28 points scored against them. I want them to go and show the "haters" that we are not the weakest district in the state!!  ;D So (you won't hear this from me often) GO REBELS!!! GO CARDINALS!!
Thanks!
 17. While I can somewhat see Colmesneil's Davis winning the award. I would be remiss if I did not at least make a case for Evadale's Mark Williams. Williams who won the award last year took a 1A squad that lost 10 seniors off the district championship team that went 7-4 and molded the 2009 version into a team that is 9-0 and one win away from not only a perfect district record, but a perfect regular season record. Only two other schools even have an opportunity to complete the perfect season trick. Williams had to replace the 1A player of the year at running back, his quarterback, his fullback, several recievers, all of his defensive back field, an all district inside linebacker, and two all distirct defensive and offensive linemen. Williams with this team has guided the Rebels into the playoffs for four straight years and has built a solid 1A program that will likely be state ranked in 2010 with the split division system and the return of every offensive and defensive linemen, all but one linebacker, his quarterback, fullback and back up tailback. Not to mention that once again the Rebels will have a fresh group of players coming up from the JV who have gone 6-1 this season. I believe that Mark Williams is a class act and deserving of the Coach of the Year nod in 1A once again in 2009.

 19.
Cool Rebel Yeller. We would love to go to Huntsville and support Evadale. And maybe hang out with Leli's counsin Eric Fieilo, who players for Sam Houston. Guess they have a game the next night though. Best of luck in the game friday.
We would appreciate the support!
 20.
Is that Bowers Field at SHSU?
I believe so!
 21.
District 21 plays District 22 in round 1....Our district gets the winners: Division 1 should be: Italy vs. Riesel....Colmesneil gets the winner. Division 2 should be: Wortham vs. Lovelady Dawson vs. Mart Evadale and Hull-Daisetta get the winners of these games....I don't know which gets which, though.....
Evadale gets the Dawson/Mart winner on Nov 20th at 7:30 PM at SHSU in Huntsville.
 22. Field conditions in Evadale are very good. The Rebels have been away for the really rainy nights these past few games and the sub varsity games have cancelled on a couple of occasions so the field will be ready for the big game. There should be no excuses one way or the other on Friday. The Rebels have scheduled their playoff game on Nov 20th at 7:30 PM in Huntsville at Sam Houston State University. They will face the winner of the Dawson/Mart game in the Area round of the playoffs. Dawson is 5-0 in their district while Mart is 3-1 in theirs.
 23.
Colmesneil is the real deal. Colmesneil scored 36 points on a good H-D defense. Most of the year their offense has been great. Colmesneil has alot of speed and I believe they will win District. Colmesneil is the biggest school in District and maybe their numbers helped them win a District Championship. I knew it was a matter of time before Colmesneil would be competitive. I think the next 4-5 years Colmesneil,Evadale and H-D will be the three studs in our District. Colmesneil 28 Evadale 12
Just a reminder 55 next year we go to the split division districts and Evadale will be playing in D2 while HD, Colmesneil and WH will be D1. I feel certain we will all still be playing one another, just not in district play.
 24.
I tried my hardest last night to get Coach Davis and Coach Williams to move this game to Saturday so that we could broadcast this game but they said no. I would have really enjoyed broadcasting this game but I respect their decisions and totally understand them. Hopefully we can grab a playoff game for both teams later in the year. Good luck to both teams Friday night!!
Thanks Aggies for the try. I know most coaches really don't like playing on Saturday and especially changing the date and all the things that go into having a game. I know coaches get into a routine from scouting, film work and game planning and it fits better with the game being on Friday. It would be nice to have the game broadcast, but it just did not work out this time. Good luck to all the teams going into the final week of the season. As always it has been fun to watch, see the highlights, talk the trash and such about  high school football, Texas style! To those concluding their seasons congratulations on another exciting year, to all seniors hope that it was a memorable season. Get the courts warmed up because sooner or later all the schools will be joining you on the hardwood for another great basketball season. To those heading into the playoffs, may you be injury free and represent well your district and all of SETX. Hopefully one or more of our teams can bring home some hardware this year!
