1. The Rebels have had the philosophy that "DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS". The Rebels and the Bulldogs have beaten all the same teams, the only real difference is that everyone has scored on the Bulldogs and only HD has scored on the Rebels. Rebels  21 + Bulldogs  7 - But we will see on Friday night!
 2. The stage is set and so are the teams. Friday night on the Battlefield in Evadale the 7-2, 6-0 in district Colmesneil Bulldogs and the 9-0, 6-0 in district Evadale Rebels will decide the 23A district championship. All the comparisions and stats will be discussed and for some cussed this week. The Rebels are a game away from fulfilling the preseason hype for a second consecutive championship and the Bulldogs are the only thing that stands in their way. The debate this week will be about the speed of the Bulldogs and can the Rebels slow them down? I of course believe that the Rebels have what it takes and that while it will be a good, even close game that in the end the Rebels will take care of business. Both teams are heading for the playoffs and being in the different divisions they could not meet up after this game. I wish the Bulldogs success in the playoffs as I do the Bobcats from HD. I know that this has been a hard fought season and all the team can be proud of the effort they have put out this year. This will be a season that will be looked back on for plenty of drama and some great story lines. SP and HI have done a terrific job once again putting the pieces back together after a hurricane. Burkeville under Coach Harper is climbing back into contention and playing more like the Mustangs of old. Chester will remember the courage of a team outnumbered but never out classed. The Oilers have built a great defense and found new offensive leadership that will carry them for years to come. The HD Bobcats continue to make the playoffs year in and year out. Colmesneil has climed to the top of the district and will make it into the playoffs as a solid team and maybe even as a district champion. Congratulations to 23A, all the teams, coaches, players, bands, cheerleaders, parents and fans. We won't have the chance to be together in one district possibly ever again. It's been real, it's been fun and yea, it's been real fun! Go Rebels one more game for a season to remember. Then on to the playoffs.
 3. To fbmom and all of Chester I want you to know that I have the utmost respect for Chester the school and the community. I know that you all will be stronger and that you will support one another through this situation. I have an invitation to make after having read the Beaumont Enterprise today. I would like to invite the three Chester seniors to come to Evadale next Friday night so they could be introduced at halftime of the Evadale/Colmesneil game. Last year it was our honor to host the Sabine Pass senior night introductions when our game with the Sharks had to be moved to Evadale after the destruction that happened with Hurricane Ike. I know that the Rebel fans would be more than happy to shine the spotlight on the Yellow Jacket senior football players all be it at another school and without their team being on the field. With as big a game as this one is built up to be I know that the Jackets would get an incredible standing ovation from both sides of the field for their adopted senior night. Please contact me and we will be sure to get this set up if the players are willing to come and be recognized. I say again that it would be our honor to call out these three fine young men. God bless you all, Chester

I just want to know? I heard that the realignment count for Chester was 59 - Is that correct? If that is correct how many young men are in that number? Now for the sticky question....At what number of students does a school have to fall to making it too expensive to have a staff in the high school to afford to keep the doors open? I know that schools go through cycles, but with teachers for English, Science, Math, Social Studies, Spanish(?), Athletics one for boys and one girls, ag(?) and one other elective thats 9 teachers with even an average of $25,000 (which is on the low end) that $225,000 in salaries alone and that does not count administration which I am sure they share in some way. I am not advocating consolidation, dropping to 6 man or anything of the sort. I just want to know is there are trigger that makes the cost of a school have to be looked at in a different way in order to provide a well rounded education for students and the best use of the money that people pay in taxes? Please I am not trying to start anything I really just want to know!
58 kids  26 of them boys  20 played football.   One player broke his foot a week earlier and all the injuries in the HI game.  It left 12 guys.
Thanks BOSoxfan! You must be a parent in Chester if you are does the cost/tax/quality debate get talked about? You can PM me if you do not want to discuss on this open forum.
 5. The #2 Defense mention has to do with Points Scored against Only New Deal has allowed fewer points this season that Evadale. There are some great defensive teams in the state, but only only 1A team has allowed fewer points than the Rebels. Hope that clears up a few of the questions. Would your team rather give up more yards than points or points than yards? The Rebels perfer more yards than points (only 35 in 8 games - 28 of those came in two games against 2A opponnets). I believe that the Rebels will make a breakthrough this year in the playoffs. I also know that with the entire offensive and defensive line returning next year as well as most of the linebackers and the offensive backfield things are looking pretty good for 2010 too, but that will be for another thread later. Rebels will be undefeated going into their final regular season game with Colmesneil and that is the Rebels focus at this point. Getting healthy, getting better, getting stronger that is what the next few weeks are about. Keep on trucking Rebels!

 9. I feel bad for the kids from Chester. I know they would have suited up and played hard in both of their remaining games. I know they are proud of their athletes in Chester as they are in every other school. This is one of those things that you cant predict at the begining of the year. Has Chester considered dropping to 6-man football. I heard that their cost a couple of weeks ago was 59 which is less than it was two years ago. Chester had a simular situation three years ago when they played Evadale at the end of the season. They only had 12 players to start the game and two got hurt during the game so the Jackets finished with 10 players. I am by no means saying they cant compete, but at some point you want to see the kids compete at a level where they know they are among equals. That is the reasoning for the Division1 & 2 district alignments beginning next year in 1A and now I believe 2A as well. I know there are not as many schools playing 6-man in SETX as there are in Central and West Texas, but it is an option that is available to a smaller enrollment school and Chester is the smallest 1A in the state playing 11 man football. Good luck on the rehab and we look forward to seeing the Jackets on the courts and diamonds later this year.
 10.
See ya there Rebel Yeller, but the schedule I have is for a Saturday game @ 7:00. I will have to check and see if that is still correct.
My bad! That should make the field a bit dryer than a Saturday game. Should be a good game!
 11. Well the Rebels have done their part, all be it that #9 on the season is a forfeit win. If the Bulldogs can get through HI this Friday then we will have a playoff athmosphere in Evadale on Nov 6th. The Rebels will enter undefeated @ 9-0, 6-0 in district and Colmesneil will enter @ 7-2, 6-0 in district. This will be a great test for both schools and the fact that the district title will be on the line makes it even better. Both schools will be advancing and playing the next week, but only one will be the 23A Champs. Several on this thread and on the SETX rankings don't think very highly of Evadale, District 23A and Colmesneil for that matter. I have not heard much from anyone until the last week or so about the Bulldogs. They have won five district games in a row. That's impressive. I don't think the Rebels are overrated, and I sure want to get into the playoffs and win some to prove all the "NAY SAYERS" wrong. But that's just me. I want all the teams in the playoffs to do well even the schools who's fans have been so down on the Rebels. I think except for a few really disturbed individuals who post on 23A threads we have great fans who are passionate about their kids and their teams. Way to go 23A and of course the Rebels!
 12. The Mustangs should take this one. No disrespect to the Sharks, but this bunch will pound you for four quarters and if it is a wet sloppy field running is almost the only thing you can do. Mustangs 20 Sharks      6
 13. I suspect that there will be a number of Evadale players and fans in Colmesneil Friday night. It's not oftern that you get to scout a district rival in person once district starts. It could prove very helpful to the Rebels next week.
 14. Never mind you folks are way too touchy about this poll. Enjoy the rest of the rest of the season. Oh but, go ahead and drop Evadale to ninth since we are winning by forfeit this week.
 15.
Ya'll don't forget to stop by the Texas Star Cafe for a great pre-game meal.....
Now that's no lie that place has GREAT food!
Why not 5A-4A, 3A-2A and 1A-Private?
We only have 8 1A teams and 2 local private teams. It would be a poll of all 10. I guess that would be a way for Evadale to be #1 though in a poll that includes a couple of winless teams. ::)
Why not a top 5 for 1A-Private?
 17. Rebels are getting an unexpected week off before this big game. Time for all the bumps and brusies to be healed. Kids to get over being sick and not to have to slopp around in the mud on Friday night. And add a few wrinkles that the Bulldogs have not seen. Going to be a great game on Nov 6th!
 18. I can confirm that Chester has suspended the remainder of their football season. I spoke to Evadale Head Coach, Mark Williams who confirmed that last night the Chester School Board shut the season down for the safety of the remaining students on the football team. This means that Evadale gets a forfeit win this week and West Hardin gets one next week. Playoffs are set for the 23A Division 1 team Colmesneil and the Division 2 #1 seed Evadale. Friday's game between HD & WH will determine the #2 Division 2 team and third place in district. If HD wins the game then WH will be through after Friday night's contest. I hate that the game can't be played, but there is nothing gained by putting a team that had lost so much out on the field. All our thought and prayers go out to the Chester community and school as you deal with this situation. See you later in the year on the court or on the diamond.

 20. WOS Just got to tell you that by the look of things Evadale could be off the rankings if we keep doing this winning thing. We win on the field and drop in the poll, it has become a predictable pattern. There are two other 8-0 teams and I look for their stock to begin slipping if they continue this "winnnig thing" too. I know, I know level of competition, strength of schedule, moon aligned with the stars, and of course Evadale can't beat any of the teams ranked ahaed of them. I know it does not matter one bit what this poll says and it is just for a bunch of people to get on and talk, but please. Teams going undefeated is not something that happens all the time and Evadale can't control level of competition, we're 1A, we played 2 2A teams that both beat us last year. Strength of schedule we have an 8 teams district so we don't get any choice on 7 games we play, refer back to the 2 2A from earlier. The moon has to be doing something to the rain cycle and only God controls that and Evadale won't this year or any year get the chance to even try to stay with the other teams on the list as most of them don't want to play "down". I am not mad, just sticking up for a group of young men who have done something very incredible this season going 8-0. Securing a fourth straight trip to the playoffs, and still have a legitamate shot at a district title for a second consecutive year and a 10-0 regular season. I guess if we get that it does not matter where we end up on the poll, if we even do! Just rattling your chain...HA HA
 21.
Thank you everyone for keeping you in my prayers. I just want to let Leli know it was nowhere close to being his fault. It was just a freak accident. Luckily there was no broken bones just torn ligaments, torn muscle from the bone, and severe dislocation that went through the skin. I have a ten week. I have a big goal in front of me and thats to be back for baseball. I am happy and it makes this alot easier on me seeing all the people praying and supporting me. Well i hope to see High Island on the diamond this year. Chester # 88 Senior 2010
Sounds like a classy young man who will do well long after football and high school! Sorry for your injury as a senior. We all will be praying for you as you FULLY recover and yes hopefully get the opportunity to get on the baseball diamond for your jackets in the spring.
 22. Hey Bulldog Fans Things just aren't going our way. The game between the Bulldogs and the Rebels looks to pit two unbeaten teams battling for the 23A District championship. However I can assure you that the game will not be anyones game of the week since PNG & Central and Newton & Kirbyville are playing that same night. So here is my suggestion. We are going to skip the game of the week stuff and go straight to "Game of the Year!" I know both teams have games to get through this week, but if they both win this week we all should begin our posts refering to the GAME OF THE YEAR! and see if it takes hold. Congratulations on making the playoffs as the Division 1 school and I hope that you have a long run in the playoffs as I do for whichever team finishes 3rd in district. I would live to notch some post season wins for 23A and let people know that 23A is far from the weakest district in the state. See you Nov 6th on the Battlefield!
 23. I have not said anything about Evadale's ranking in the AP or the SETX poll in a few weeks, but this makes 5 weeks that the Rebels have at least appeared in the AP listings. Not too shabby for an unbeaten team from the weakest district in Texas!
 24.
Should be a good game...I believe HD has a few more offensive weapons than WH does.  Both teams have a good defense so i give the edge to HD... HD-21 WH-7
Got to go with my man MO. The Bobcats just have more offense than the Oilers. The WH bunch has some good defenders, but the Oiler offense gained only 78 yards last Friday night and that just won't win you many games, especially if it is a close game.
 25.

I love my 'Jackets, but they will be limping into this game.  The injury bug hit hard, and the kids will be struggling.  I look for Evilsmell, oops, sorry Evadale (I can't spell) to take this big.  Hang in there Chester, and hope those kids are doing better.
The young man that was lifeflighted is down for a while. His mom just informed me that Chester has just canceled the rest of their season.  :'(
Just checked while cancellation is an option it is not decided yet. I hate games like this for the school that is down this same thing happened a couple of years ago when these two played and Chester had to finish that one with only 10 players. I wish the Lackets well and hope this does not hurt other sports that are upcoming.
