  1. The best defense is the one that keeps opponents from scoring and allows your team the opportunity to win games. Evadale gets little credit for their 7-0 record, but they have given up only 35 total points in those 7 games, only 7 in their four district games. They have four shut outs this season, three in district and 28 of the 35 points were given up to 2A schools 14 each in both games. You may argue stength of competition, but you can't argue that the Rebel "D" has done its job for 7 games this season.
  2. Should be a defensive battle as both teams are playing solid D this year. The Oilers may be a little behind the Rebels on the O side. Of late the Rebels have been heavy on the yardage while light on the scoring, but they have several things moving in a possitive directions and once they get over a few mental errors they should get the scoring going again. I am goint to throw out the first prediction... Rebels 24 Oilers 7 Let the games begin!
  3. I was going to ask if I could do a "write in" with Leli. But, as its been stated a couple of times...this is a "fun" poll. I have seen several posts in different forums regarding Leli and I am sure you (and I) are not the only ones thinking he is having a fantastic year! Mr Lupeheke is an extremly talented wide reciever. He has great hands and runs good routes. That young man might be able to play at the next level especially with so many college programs running the spread. I would agree that he is an outstanding player.
  4. You are absolutely correct BC, we did and a fine young man Mr. Robertson is. I am suffering from a bit of "Homecoming Lag" as I am sure most of you can relate to. Good luck to all of 23A as this season winds down.
  5. It is unusual that the other three players on this poll the Rebels have yet to face. I stated in another posting that our district is full of fine players and several including those on this list and others that are not could make a strong case for the district MVP. I think everyone would agree that there is still a great deal of football left to play and thesee final three games will have a dramatic impact on the district Championship, the playoff teams and of course the end of the year individual honors that will be passed out once the season is over. This poll might be a better indicator three weeks from now. I know that each of these young men is more concerned with how their team will finish than who we think is the district MVP.
  6. The Evadale Rebel Defense They recorded their 4th shut out in 7 games - have only given up 35 point in those seven games and only 7 in their 4 district games. The defense recorded 7 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries against HI last night and cornerback Jerrod Herrington picked off two last night bringing his total to six on the season. The highlight of the night was a goal line stand early in the third quarter that they turned the Cardinals away including two plays from inside the 1 on 3rd and 4th downs.
  7. I understand that grades hit the Oilers pretty hard this week. Can anyone confirm that?
  8. First let me echo the MO to say that the Cards came to play at the Battlefield. Nobody told them that the Rebels were supposed to blow them away and in fact nobody told them that they were not going to win. That is one tough bunch of players. I just finished the unofficial stats that are kept in the press box and here is what I came up with. These are UNOFFICIAL! Cards 22 Rushing attempts for -7 yards 11 of 17 Passing for 180 yards with fout interceptions 173 Total Yards 6 First Downs Rebels 28 Rushing attempts for 224 yards and one TD (Stanley) 4 of 8 Passing for 82 yards with two interceptions 306 Total Yards 13 First Downs That was the Rebels 4th shut out of the year and the 3rd in district play. Stanley had his first 100 yard game of the season with 105. Jerrod Herrington had 2 interceptions in the game and has 6 for the year. The Rebels missed two golden opportunities as they setttled for field goal attempts and were unsuccessful on both. If the Rebels hit those then MO is once again right with the Rebels winning by three TD's 21-0. But again the Cards are scrappy and if they had scored on that 4th and inches early in the 3rd quarter things might have been different, but once again the Rebel "D" held their ground and turned in a great performance. Sure beginning to look like a show down at the Battlefield for the final game of the season as the Rebels and the Bulldogs are on a collision course with what looks like a district championship on the line.. Don't get me wrong there are still two games for both teams between now and then and anything could happen. But it would be exciting if it did come down to that final game and the winner gets to take all!
  9. Yes they did lose to a very good Panther freshman team last night. That was the first loss this season, but they lost one last year to HD and 2 the year before to Orangefield and I can remember the other.
  10. The Freshmen Panthers were an impressive team. Good number of players, plenty of speed and toughness too. The JV Rebels were unbeaten heading into the game tonight and they had their hands full from start to finish. To all of you who have Anahuac in your district all I can say is you better strap it on because this bunch looks like they will be bringing it for the next three years!
  11. The Cardinals are always underestimated! And you are so right. Let all of them come out to play and not worry about High Island or think they are no competition. The Cardinals will continue to surprise people and maybe, just maybe, earn a little respect from these posters!!! GO CARDINALS!!! ;D Conside this poster someone with great respect for the HI Cards. I have stated many times that there is plenty of tough stock in the players from HI and I will add SP. I love my Rebels and of course I believe that they will win tomorrow night. But every team better come out ready to play against every team in 23A. Some have posted on SETX calling this the weakest 1A district in the state. I don't think so and here is my reasoning. District 23A has great kids. Girls and guys, so I take offense when people call our district weak. I am sure we will hear it next year about both the districts that emerge once we divide into D1 and D2. Well you know what I will stack our schools, teams, coaches and kids against any other 1A in the state. We not knot come out on top but they will know they have been in a fight. Let me write it for all to read. I think the kids in Burkeville, Colmesneil, Chester, High Island, Hull-Daisetta, Sabine Pass, West Hardin and Evadale are great athletes, students and most importantly young men and women that we all can be proud of. I wish the Cards well even though I don't wish them a victory against us.
  12. Once you reach a certain level on SETX you can give posters a grade of sorts. If you likfe their post you can give them + karma points, but if you don't like what they say or how they say it you can give them - karma points. Totals will go up as you continue to post. Allow me to be the first to give you a +!
  13. You might want to check the schedule and scores on the fooball home page as the Bulldogs have scored an impressive 170 points this season while the Rebels are just slightly behind at 184.
  14. Who has the 1st best D in district?? And they only scored 19 on us ;D That would be Evadale as they have given up only 35 points in 6 games (only New Deal and Goldthwaite have given up less in 1A this year).
  15. For the Record Chester has scored 107 points in 6 games which places them in the middle of the district pack in scoring.
  16. Interesting! I just wonder how long it is until the D1 - D2 thing takes to make it into 2A and up?
  17. I only take credit for someone becoming the DAWG YELLER, and jope we soon add the BOBCAT YELLER, CARDINAL YELLER and YELLERS from all the 23A teams. But believe me I am just the Rebel Yeller and that is the only Yeller that I am. Oh for my prediction I am saying HD 12 Colmesneil 8
  18. I have to be careful as I have recently been accused of "Rebel Worship" so i will just keep it simple. Rebels 28 Cards 7
  19. Hey rebel yeller the DAWGS are gonna take it to your rebels boy woooooooh ;D We'll be waiting!
  20. I responded on another thread and I will repeat again that the Mustangs have improved greatly. I saw some die hard fans in the stands for the Mustangs and as MO has stated it won't be long until the Mustangs are challenging for titles once again. I worship only one thing and that is Jesus Christ. I can assure you that I am by no means even close to being the most devoted Rebel fan. I am a relative new comer to those ranks. I will admit that I have some fun with these posts, but I thought that was what this is all about. Having a little fun! Good luck Mustangs with the remainder of your season.
  21. I can give the young man his props, I was responding to the quote that "No one has shut him down" from another post. I said in an earlier post that I was impressed with the progress that the Mustangs have made from last year. And YES, I am a REBEL fan, no doubt! Sorry if I offended you or your Mustangs. Just stating facts using stats. Those can of course be misleading. Your Mustangs never gave up and played from start to finish. They did nothing to tarnish there image and showed lots of class. I hope the rest of the Mustangs season goes well.
  22. Ouch, that hurt!..........Not!
  23. You have to hand it to the Sharks, they give it everything they have on and off the field, but this one will be a "W" for the Oilers. I fear that the SP/Burkeville game may be both teams only chance to put a 1 in the win column in district this year.
