  1. You might want to check the stats from Friday night against the Rebels in light of your "No team has stopped him this year" statement. Burkeville 14 yards total offense to Evadales 219 yards!
  2. The stats came from the coaches review of the game film. I said again that the Mustangs have improved, but rain or not rain I don't think would have made much difference. The Rebel defense has yielded less than 100 yards in 5 of their 6 games. The Mustnags played hard, but the Rebels played harder!
  3. Trey White for the Evadale Rebels 2 sacks 3 forced fumbles and he disrupted the Mustang offense from his nose guard position all night as the Mustangs and their wishbone only gained 8 yards on 25 rushing attempts.
  4. Just got the stats for my article this week from the coaches. Burkeville 25 Rushes for 8 yards 1 of 3 passing for 6 yards Total yards 14 5 Fumbles 3 lost 1 Int Sacked 4 times 2 1st Downs * I'll have to check, but I believe that the Mustangs never crossed the 50 yard line Evadale 49 Rushes for 194 yards Nichols 21 for 102 yards - Long 47 Stanley 18 for 62 yards - Long 23 - 1 TD 2 of 4 passing for 25 yards both completions for TD's - 11 yards to Stark - 14 yards to Franklin 2 Fumbles 1 lost Trey White 2 Sacks 3 forced fumbles It was a game the Rebels were supposed to win and they did. I agree that the Mustangs are a better team than last year and the teams that still have them on the schedule better prepare to strap it on and get ready to be hit. Good job to both teams!
  5. You can't be serious! No pass no play is there for a reason. i am married to a teacher and this is the only thing that keeps some kids even partially focused on school. I for one thing it might not be strong enough. I would like to see the grades carry over from the end of the year to the first of the next school year. It is a motivator, plain and simple. Why not maintain the motivation through the entire school year! JMO
  6. jr high should be more about participation than wins and losses. i think all jr highs should be run that way. it may be the last and only time for the kids to actually play for their school. Good post Spoonbill!
  7. Rebel Gold (mostly 7th grade) lost to Chester 16-12 Rebel Blue (mostly 8th grade) defeated Burkeville 28-0 Blue has only one loss on the season, but the fact that every kid in the JH program is getting playing time is GREAT! Keep it up Rebels!
  8. I grew up in Fort Worth and played a couple of games against Dunbar as a freshman. Talk about Wildcats WOW! I am not that familuar with most on your list, but I can confirm that FW Dunbar deserves no worse than 3rd and possibly as high as #1. They are still cranking out the teams and I suppose they will be highly ranked again in 2009.
  9. Could this be another Cardinals OT? It looks to me that it could be, but I believe that the Cards will take it in a close one or two.
  10. This is exactly what I have been talking about. I have no problem with Hupernikomen's Poll. I think it is as accurate as a SETX poll can be. Judge teams by how they take care of their business, not how they would stack up against other schools in other classifications.
  11. I love how seriously you guys take posts on this. I said it in my post. I believe that while I know the Rebels would take the field agaist Silsbee (the team the pollsters placed one notch behind the Rebels) I really can't see them defeating them in a game. If they could this whole thing would really be turned upside down. Maybe it would be a better poll if it was 3A-5A and Privates to 2A with three classes in each poll? Maybe it would be better if there was a 4A-5A, a 3A-2A and a Private-1A poll? Maybe it would be better if there was no poll...nah then I couldn't yang you guys chains. I will be interested just where you put the Rebels if they run the table undefeated this season, but I guess I will just have to wait and see? Seriously though, it's all good!
  12. Evadale continues to get the snub in this poll. Yes, the Rebels are a 1A school and the only 1A ranked, that I believe is the problem they have about moving up, none of their opponents are even listed on the page, so moving up is difficult. Forget the fact that the other two 5-0 teams are #2 and #1 in the polls while the Rebels are #7, one better than last week (Thanks guys!) I know this is just for fun and so we can talk about something all week, but if the arguement is that the Rebels don't play anybody and that they can't beat the teams ahead of them I must ask a question. Do the pollsters really think that the Rebels are a better team than Silsbee? The Tigers have lost two heartbreakers in the last moments of both games. I know the Rebels would take the field against the Tigers and give it all they had, but even I would be hard pressed to choose the Rebels. My thing is how do you use the games and opponents to hold one team down while it does not hold another down or better yet cause one of three undefeated teams to be only #7. The AP has the Rebels as he #15 team in the state. Still just wondering from Rebel Land!
  13. Will do Joharr I have watched some film on the Mustangs and they are MUCH better than last year! I know they have played hard against WH and HI. They can be trouble, but I just don't see the Rebels being lulled to sleep after the Mustangs last two weeks. I can say I'm glad that we did not open against them. I see this one being another test for the Rebels. Tests I might say they have passed 5 times already this season. The Rebels are getting everyones "A" game and this one will be no different. With all that said I see the Rebels coming out on top of this one. Rebels 21 or more Mustangs 7 or less
  14. The Evadale Rebels defense held the HD Bobcats to 92 total yards for the game.
  15. I was told by one of the chain gang that the ref told the HD coach that they called a time out and that there could be no flag if there was no play.
  16. It is half way through the regular season and there are only 3 undefeated teams left in SETX, PNG, Newton and Evadale. I am of course favoring one of the three as my name indicates, but I admire all three as undefeated is something that all teams strive to be and very few attain. Only these three have even a chance to complete the 2nd half of the season and of course move into the playoffs. Undefeated is down the list of goals after a district championship and making the playoffs, but to all the players, coaches and fans involved with these three teams I say congrats. You may not finish the season undefeated, but only you three have even the opportunity to post a 10-0 at the end of the regular season.
  17. From a stats point of view this one was much closer than it should have been. I do not want to take a thing away from HD, but I know that the Rebels had twice as much offense as HD had. Total offense for the game was Rebels 195 to the Bobcats 104. Note 47 yards of HD's offense came on the 47 yard TD pass in the second quarter. Time of possesion had to be 3 to 1 in the Rebels favor and again in the first half the Rebels had 7 first downs to only 2 for HD For the game First downs was Rebels 14 and HD 4. The HD touchdown was a great pass over the Rebel corner when he bit on the run fake. Gilmore was Hd's leading rusher with 36 yards, but 20 of that total came in the first quarter so 16 more yards for the rest of the game. The Rebel defense allowed only 24 yards of rushing and three rushers from HD had negative yards for the game. The Rebels wore HD down and being on the field for so long on defense had to take it out of the Bobcats, not to mention the only HD offensive play of the third quarter was a pas picked off by the Rebels that went for a TD. The Rebels won the turnover battle as HD lost an Int, a fumble and an onsides kick. It was a HARD fought game. But this was a big victory for the Rebels. The Rebels are now one of only three remaining undefeated teams in SETX. PNG, Newton and Evadale are all that remain with a clean loss column. Great job Rebels, keep it going!
  18. Coach Harper might not be doing anything wrong and I must admit that I am a bit confused about how attendance zones over lap. I thought that all had to do with what school an area paid taxes and I doubt anyone whould want to live in an area that had to pay two school taxes. But i will conseed that point, but if a student goes one year to a school because Coach Harper is not at Burkeville and then comes back when he is there then it sound to me like the kids are the ones breaking the rule not Coach Harper. Evadale has transfers, but they all are coming to Evadale, but we have not had all the talent go to Silsbee or Vidor and then return when we got a new coach.
  19. Just wondering if anyone else is troubled by Chronicle's post "The biggest problem for Burkeville is that the majority of the athletes moved to Jasper or Newton. Harper will get those players back eventually." Did someone change the rules on high school recruiting? I understand transfers, sounds like a number of Mustangs opted for what they believed were better teams than the one that they had in Burkeville. But the part that bothers me is that "Harper will get those players back...eventually". His post sounds like the coach is going to be spending time in some living rooms pitching that "Ole Mustang Pride!" If a player wants to go someplace else that is up to parents and the student. A coach, any coach has no business whatsoever interfearing. The UIL has rules about not transfering for athletic purposes, but I would also wonder about a player who abandoned a program wanting to come back, I believe that in and of its self fits the UIL test for moving for athletic purposes. Besides leaving Jasper or Newton where playoffs are close to a guarentee to come to a 1A school who even if they returned might still not make the playoffs, not sure who would do that? JMO
  20. The JV Rebels are now 5-0 after defeating the HD Bobcats 20-18. Our prayers go out to Brandon Harvey who is having surgery this morning to repair a broken leg.
  21. Well said Yeller. But I think yall are looking past the Bobcats from Hull-Daisetta. All of Evadale is picking the Rebs to win by two or three TD's. Come on !!!!!!! Who do yall think yall are playing !!!!!! I have stated this will be a close game !!! Evadale has not played a team as good as H-D. This game will be decided by 6 points or less. 55 you are right it could be a close game, but I keep coming back to one common denominator...Kountze The Rebels spoiled the Lions homecoming and did so with very little trouble. The Bobcats lost to the Lions the very next week. Say what you will and on Friday night I could be eating crow, but I still believe that the Rebels are 2 TD's better than the Bobcats with 48 hours till kick off.
  22. The Yeller has been quiet up to now on this game. Just trying to sort out all the things that happened last week. The Rebels did not play as well as they have and still won easily. The Bobcats had a hand full with a game Cardinal squad. Both teams may have been looking at this week and getting ready for a war on "The Battlefield" Well the coaches have done their preparations making adjustments for their players. The players have taken it in and will have to process the info and know their assignemnts. It is time to lay it on the line. My prediction for the game is... Rebels 28 Bobcats 14 Hope all have a safe game and that the injury bug does not visit either squad. This one could decide the district championship, but of course there is still plenty of ball to play.
  23. This might take a few calls and a bit of traveling on the part of Aggies anyway, but the looser has to direct the winners band in the playing of their fight song at the end of their half time performance! Wearing the the winners t shirt of course. It would alos take a couple of calls to the band directors to ensure that it could be done. The looser might as well have to go all out for the winning school. Especially if the band uses one of those high stands so the band can see the director of drum major.
  24. Evadale's JV is 4-0 with victories over Deweyville, Kountze, Colmesneil and West Hardin. This is a group of freshmen and sophomores with two juniors. A couple of players have moved up, but this is a very talented group of players and they make things happen on the field.
