I don't know about all of you, but this week coming up will be the longest one of the year. Scrimmages are OK, but it is time to play football and I know we [/u[glow=red,2,300]]ALL[/glow] can't wait! Continue to pray for all the young men on the field, but don't forget everyone else that makes Friday Nights in the Fall sooooo special in Texas. Bands, cheerleaders, coaches, referees, the folks in the concession stand, the chain gangs and of course the fans. Turn on the lights and answer yes to the question..."Are you ready for some football?"

EVADALE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 8/20-8/22
Rebel Yeller replied to underarmor's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Bobcat You miss the point, [glow=red,2,300]none of them are ranked yet[/glow]! This will just make it easier to look back and see how a number of teams did against each other. Football has nothing like tournaments that compare apples to apples on the field. Rankings are just opinions especially when three classifications are lumped into one poll. This just gives a better indication as to how lots of schools line up against each other. It won't determine poll rankings, but it does give a better indication as to how programs stack up against each other especially across different classifications. By the way you always have some of the best posts in the forum. Keep it up! -
Well said Mo That guy in the press box is getting better, who knows maybe he can cut a few seconds off of everyones 40 times this year!

EVADALE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 8/20-8/22
Rebel Yeller replied to underarmor's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This tournament should answer a lot of questions about which teams deserve to be ranked in the lower classifications in the area. -
I could care less who is the fastest man on my team I just want our guys to be the fastest ones on the field on Friday nights. Being the meanest aint bad either!

The Rebel JV looked alright against West Sabine's JV on Saturday. They scored once and did not allow the Tigers to score. This program has been a huge benefit to the Rebels as they have had two straight seasons on JV football. The players on this years varsity are coming in with on the field time instead of standing on the sidelines on Friday night. I wish all the other teams in district could do it, but unfortunately there are some schools that might not even have junior high teams all all and some that may start the season, but won't finish the season.

23-1A Scrimmage Scores and Comments.

The Rebels scored twice in their scrimmage against West Sabine. -
Hey Cardinal Fan How are things looking for you guys so far? You have a great group of young men who showed a lot of heart and class last season. Just wanted your take on how things are stacking up for the Cards this year.

I thought the Lady Rebels looked pretty good for just their first game of the season! Great job and good luck Lady Rebels!

Just got back from stopping in to see the Rebels practice for a bit this morning and the Rebels have picked up a player and it has to be bad news for one of the other programs in District 23A. Chase Franklin from Chester was in pads this morning for the Rebels. Franklin is a junior who has played QB, RB and LB for the Yellowjackets since he was a freshman. He is also an infielder for the baseball team. It is my understanding that his mom has been hired as the Spanish teacher at Evadale and that they have moved back into the district with family. He is just another piece that makes this years (and next) Rebels a strong candidate to repeat as district champions. Just wanted to pass this along as it will surely have an impact on the district!

Deweyville football tuning in well
Rebel Yeller replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Rebels have played the Pirates almost every year that I have been in Evadale (going on 8 years now) and I can say that I have great respect for your school, coaches, players and fans. You have always shown class and sportmanship on and off the field at your place our ours. In your old stadium or in your new it makes no difference. As a matter of fact I think we played in your first regular season home game on the new field? We are looking forward to our trip to Deweyville on Sept 4th, it should be a great game as always. Best of luck to the Pirates this season...except on Sept 4th, you know! DP14 - Thanks for always supporting the Rebels on your posts, they are appreciated! -
Great Post Ballfan I too love to watch my Rebels. I have only been in Evadale seven years, but I love to watch our guys and girls in their sports. It does seem hard to believe that these 14 to 18 year old kids are put under the same pressure that we place college and even professional players under. I like winning as much as the next guy, but when your great players in Kirbyville don't want to be acknowledged for being in the state final it makes me wonder if we have not placed the expectations so far out of reach that our kids can not even appreciate the fact that they have the teamwork and determination that playing team sports affords them. In the end only one team wins a state title, but for anyone to believe that losing in that game (or any game) is more important than winning in the game of life is way off the mark. I for one congratulate Kirbyville for last seasons run. The coaches, players, parents, community, schools, fans and yes the area, think you did great. I bet if you went to Newton and asked Coach Barbay, he would echo these sentiments as well. Now he will be gunning for you when you play later this season, but he would say "Well done Wildcats!" and to players and coaches from any team, I say "Well done!" Thanks for giving your schools and communities something to cheer for and support on the fields and in the gyms. Winning games is fun and good winning in life is great! Good luck and prayers for injury free seasons to EVERYONE this year!

Last season I posted about a young man that was playing on the Rebels JV squad, his name is Bud Tanton. Bud was seriously injuried in a four wheller accident just as the season got started. We Bud had a difficult recovery and did not return to school until after Christmas, but I can gladly report that Bud will be a member of the team this season as a manager. The Rebels wore a skicker with Bud's number on their helmets last season to show their support and this year Bud will be helping his friends in a different way as the team manager. I say again that I pray daily for every player that plays this game I love so much. It taught me so much about teamwork, friendship and life many years ago. I know that every young man out on those fields is some ones son, grandson, brother, uncle or friend and I want each and everyone of them to come away from this season and every other one whole and without serious injury. I ask everyone to join me and pray for these young men, from now through the state championship!

Hey Wham No disrespect towards Mo he's a good good friend, just a little preseason funny. I have watched several practices including Midnight Madness, I believe things in Rebelland will be just fine, but you have to play the games and you have to do the work. I have seen some good and some not so good in the practices I have been to. But, I still hold to my prediction that another district championship is coming for the Rebs this season. -

Great first workout in pads! Good crowd showing community support. 46 players suited up at a 1A school is something to be proud of and will continue the success of the Rebel footbal program. Can't wait for the season to get started. -

You know, I don't know, but a local church will be giving free watermelon slices. -
Once again this year the Evadale Rebels will hit the field in full pads at 12:01 AM early Friday morning on Aug. 7th. As the first day the UIL allows players to be in full pads Mark Williams and the Evadale caoching staff will see how the team has progressed in knowledge and technics from the shorts and helmet workouts to the full contact variety. This will be the fourth year that the Rebels will begin the full contact portion of pre school practices with the Midnight Madness event patterned after the events done at college basketball powerhouses to get their seasons started. Midnight Madness is always well attended with well over 200 people coming out last year. It will be a great morning and a lot of fun. If you happen to be driving through Evadale late night on Thursday just look for the lights as Evadale's Rebels put on their own version of "Friday Early Morning Lights!"

It is all about balance! Why not play a mixture of teams. If this were a perfect world you would play for a win and to work on execution in your first and maybe second preseason game (depending on how many you get) and then work towards tougher competition. You build confidence early and them you see where you stack up against what should be a better team. Even losses can teach your team things about themselves and a coach should always be able to look back and say about preseason opponents (at least a few) that, "You won't see anyone in district that was better than them. You hung with them and you can hang with any team!"

who is goin to win 23-1A district
Rebel Yeller replied to footballplayer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i dont see that happening I would say that if a surprise team comes out of 23A, my money would be on HI. I felt a little better about them before their coach left, but players have a thing about playing for the one that stays. I believe I am correct that the new HC was coaching at HI last year and just got the nod. HI has some athletes including a good running back and a big line. If they can replace the QB things could get interesting by the end of the season. -
Best game in 23-1A this year?
Rebel Yeller replied to Joharr73's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Just a thought If anyone takes their opponent on the opposite sideline for granted they could find out that their "game of the week" just became the upset of the day! 1A games can be determined by some very small unknowns, like a player getting hurt the week before or in pregame, a virus sweeping through the locker room, the way the field is and ybig games nowes that ever changing weather thing. For any fan the game of the year and the game you play that week are one and the same. Yea, there are some big games that look like big games now, but we are more than a month away from 0 week and almost two minths until district play begins. It is a funny shaped ball and it bounces in some very funny ways. Good luck to all the teams in 23A, except against the Rebels of course and more importantly lets pray for a season of safety for each and every player who will strap on the pads beginning next week. -
