Coaches that use Profanity at players?

As a player I was cursed at during practices and in the locker room, but never on the floor. I have since seen coaches curse at players during games. Does it happen, yes. Does it happen in the real world? Yes. I find it interesting that when a person askes the other at work if he/she curses at home in front of the kids, most of of the time they say no. So, why then do they think it is acceptable to do it all? Why then does a coach, which let us not forget one of the roles of a coach is to be a ROLE MODEL, do it even on the floor during a game? The definition of profanity is: "Profanity is a weak mind trying to express itself strongly." Enough said.
that's not a definition, that's a quote, huge difference.
there seems to be three distinct lines of thought here: 1.) it's ok and necessary ALL the time 2.) it's ok here and there if used judiciously 3.) it's NEVER ok maybe it should just be a poll. i guessed the option 3 folks would come out in the AM :D i think it depends on the coach AND the kids. but to say a coach doesn't have good character because he uses option 2 is unfair, and i don't think one NECESSARILY needs to use it, but the whole rational is shock factor, to get attention, to make a point. if used judiciously it can be a very effective device.
If your coaching and motivational ability is dependent on profanity for effectiveness then you are limited as a coach and motivator. -
At what time did I ever say that a coach had to constantly curse?? The question was coaches using profanity?? I never said at any coach should just F bomb everother word. But if your going to play sports past Jr high your going to hear it. And if your a parent you have to know that little Johnny is going to get a hear full, if he plays sports. Now with that being said I dont thank any coach should curse at any player on the bench in front of the fans. No adult should ever belittle a kid in front of everone.
So they should save the belittling for a private time. ::) ??? -
These are great points ,coming form fokes that have never been in a collage or Pro. lockerroom at halftime when your behind. Coach K and Knight have a way to get the point across using a few very choise word at the right time. But a guess its all personal. But if your son is getting ready to head to a collage program, they had better get ready for the real world. Its not all rosses and candy. And if they not ready to hear profanity directed toward them they might wont to check into playing at a church leauge on weekends.
Wow TB, I didn't know. Please share with us your halftime locker room experience at the college and pro level. ::) -
Coaches do not need to use profanity and should not use profanity in coaching. That being said, I have been around alot of good coaches and have been coached by alot of good coaches and they are humans like all and profanity does slip from time to time. But every other word that comes out of their mouths should not be a curse word. Emotions are high in practice and games and that is when profanity shows most often, is that an excuse, of course not, but i would say that if we polled most coaches would say that during their career that they have said a curse word. If we polled most humans I bet they would also say the same thing.
I can agree. In the heat of the moment profanity can slip in but it should not be concidered as motivation. -

Motivational profanity is more of a personal choice than an effective tool. If a person has to resort to profanity to motivate or get results then they are articulately challenged and have limited communication and motivational skills. JMO If it was truly effective then why not try it in the classroom to improve TAKS score? Profanity is not acceptable in the classroom, most workplaces, public places, etc. Why the practice field? -

Each person puts $20 in the hat. We have a 1st 2nd 3rd place finish. It will be body fat loss and not weight. Dana White - "If (Silva) wins that fight on the fifth, then Georges St-Pierre needs to beat Jake Shields in Toronto," White said. "If that happens… then we're probably going to do that fight. If they both win, that fight makes all the sense in the world."

Dos Santos vs lesnar and the ultimate fighter coaches
mat replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was wondering what weight class it would be. Dana probably went with LHW because the last HW TUF was not impressive, not very good fighters. Someone mentioned a rumor about Brock going back to WWE. If it was true this could be compensation for him to stay. You never know. -
Yes both coaches, oh don't start the experience mess the guy is a national champion wrestler and he will bring in guys for stand up, I mean u can say same thing for dos Santos he has great standup but his wrestling and ground and pound isn't good, Randy coutore and koshceck wrestling backgrounds and they been coaches who wouldn't want to learn from brock bout wrestling!!!
That's kinda what I meant, he'll have to depend on his coaching team. True, Lesnar is great on the ground but his size plays a big role. -

Are you saying they are both going to be coaches? If so, it should be good for TV but I don't think Lesnar really has enough experience to be a good coach. He'll have to depend on his team. -
Anyone else watch the game? I was a great game, as good as any bowl game I've seen. The only thing I didn't understand was the penalty on the blocked field goal at the end of the game. Refs said it was an illegal blitz that was not allowed in that game. Made no sense to me. Can anyone explain?

Soccer (girls and boys), baseball (varsity, jv, freshman), softball (varsity, jv, freshman), basketball (girls and boys) and track all going on the same time of the year. Too many choices.

Cain velesquez out 6-8 months with torn rotator cuff

I doubt it even though it wouldn't suprise me after the real woopin he took in his last fight. -
I agree it was very close but when it's that close it almost always goes to the champ. There's that mentality that the challenger must earn the defeat. Plus all three judges saw it differently, I thought that was strange.

Great main event fight. I didn’t expect that good of a fight but Edger now has my respect. I’ve never been that impressed with him until last night. Bizarre outcome, he should have won. I expected Lebon and Stan to be a good fight but didn’t expect the knock out, especially in the first round. Guida had much more movement than action but he still got a good win. Silva looked good, Vera looked bad.

West Monroe and Acadiana, unfortunately are not Louisiana's best teams. They may be among them but the best teams in Louisiana, but the best team in Louisiana is John Curtis, a private school that because of it's population gets to play in the 2A ranks. They are allowed to recruit and can draw folks away from the public schools. I am vehemently opposed to the UIL allowing private schools into it's membership. If it does occur, it must happen in the same fashion as Dallas Jesuit and Houston Strake Jesuit were admitted...that is if they come in, they play in the highest classification. Now, finally as to your charge that WO-S is recruiting. It rings of sour grapes from North of I-10 as there is a school in Orange County that has been able to boost its football team because of open enrollment.....the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.
Yes, sir, that's exactly the method that should be used - making the privates play in the highest classification. Strake Jesuit went "public" in their athletic competition a few years ago, and they are in the same division with the Alief schools. That's the way it should be, if done at all. Grad, let's also remember, concerning the open enrollment comment pointing to WO-S, that the majority of football players who who transferred to LCM from WO-S (and there have been more than a few over the years) were not able to accept the disciplinary demands placed on them in the WO-S program. Sour grapes is correct. ::)
It seems the two of you are quite sensitive about the notion that sometime in the history of WOS’ success a player or players may have experienced some type of recruitment, invite, encouragement or persuasion to play for WOS. There would be nothing wrong with that because that’s one of the advantages of open enrollment. It doesn’t mean Hooks is on the phone recruiting players. There are also several reasons a student or athlete would transfer to LCM and that’s OK too if they move within the district. Two separate districts with plenty to offer in different areas.
Nope, not sensitive. Just sick and tired of hearing allegations or implications that the key to the Mustang's successful football for the last 25 years is due to recruiting and the failure to accept that those kids that are legally within the school district and the coaches that have guided them are just in many cases better. I have defended a number of athletic directors and coaches in other school districts and I decided that it is high time I begin to defend those that are in my home town. If allegations (and I don't mean yours A Bear's Bear, you have adequately explained your position) that have been posted on the board about the Hooks and the Mustangs (which have been left unedited and not removed) would have been posted about any other coach in the area, my pm box would be loaded with calls for locking of threads, deletion of posts and lifetime banishment of posters and my email full of complaint e-mails. Believe me, I know this from experience. Well, from here on in, when the allegation flies, there WILL be at least one graduate of West Orange-Stark High School that fires back. If you wish you wish to dismiss it as sensitivity, so be it.
I truly appreciate your defense of the premier football program in our area. I don’t dispute your claim of defending other programs either but on a thread with one post from Bear (whom you exclude as your reason for your defense) you had no problem pointing your finger north of I 10 and singling out LCM for sour grapes. FYI – I am a proud Stark graduate too.

Agreed about Guida. I don't have direct TV

Looks like a pretty good card tonight. Leban and Stans could be the fight of the night even though there are other possiblities.

I know he got a scholarship from LSU as a FS. What happened to him after college? Is he in the area or living away for SE Texas? I remember playing against him from youth football in Orange County on up to High School but lost track of him after he went to Baton Rouge. He was a great athlete.
Rick played safety while at WO-S. I don't think he ever saw the field at LSU. He was a great athlete and a great leader on that 1985 team.
I watched all of the backs on the list except for Ernest and to me, Adrian Steen Sr. was the most impressive of them all.
