Best "Team" Ever At Your School?
AshlyHasBeen replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
For PN-G I would say the 1975 State Champions. That year the Tribe went (14-1) avenging their only loss of the season to South Houston (lost by 1) by stomping the Trojans 32-7 in the playoffs. PN-G would go onto beat Odessa Permian in the title game. Following the season the Indians were ranked as the #3 team in the nation. A close 2nd came in 1977 when PN-G outscored their opponents by an average of 29-8 finishing 14-1 losing the title game to Plano 13-10 before the largest crowd to ever witness a high school football game (49,000+). -
Good luck to whoever comes out on top in district 32, there are 3 good ball teams still in the mix. It is amazing how far Groves National has come since I've grown up playing ball in the 80's and 90's. Back then most of the top players came from Groves American where we played under PONY rules while National was kind of looked down upon by the other.

I was supposed to but things came. Heard from him last night wish he would've had a better game last night. He's a buddy of mine, I did a story on in Florida the last two years and last season at Minute Maid. -

2007-08 Lamar Cardinals Basketball Schedule
AshlyHasBeen replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Things are being worked out with different teams, Tech is supposed to come next year. One of the toughest things in college basketball is scheduling. Bigger schools have NOTHING to gain from playing at smaller schools. Also when Lamar beats a team like BYU and Air Force at home trust me schools notice that. -
Lamar Baseball Next Year..
AshlyHasBeen replied to davidortizfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Lamar will be solid once again. Pitching will be key with Sisk leading the way. Also while some of the backups will be asked to step up there will be many new faces. One last thing another starter from this years team looks like he is transfering to possibly Nevada I won't mention his name until it becomes official. -
Who has the toughest or weakest schedule in 2007
AshlyHasBeen replied to TradinUp BH's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
To me the smaller schools are actually scarier to play. No offense to the smaller classifications but for the most part larger schools aren't as fired up while for the small guys the game means a ton. For example here are couple of small school scares PN-G had when I was there. 1996: PN-G 30 Newton 6, score was much closer then the final. 1997: PN-G 21 Newton 7 1999: PN-G 14 Kelly 10, the Indians went to state this season but some fans were wondering if we would make the playoffs after the opener. The Bulldogs players and fans clearly felt like this was a big game. -

Just curious is that TJ's record for Memorial? Hopefully they're not adding the Titans wins to the total. -

Great girl and family. I interviewed her on Monday when she signed. -
I agree as soon as started school at Taft Elementary in 1985 those teams were legendary. I remember it seemed like a dream then came 1989 when Ron McGill and the boys brought back the spirit to The Reservation and I had my first chance to see PN-G in the Dome when they beat Lamar Consolidated. Then the thing that stuck in my mind the most from my first day of high school on the windows of the doors in the old A wing the football stickers for the 1970s state semifinals, finals and champions were still there. I would definatly want to play for the PN-G dynasty of the mid 70s. Position Free Safety or Wide Receiver.

He played he was playing in an independent league I just haven't found him on a roster yet, I'll give him a call. -
I hope we never see corporate logos on out local football fields, it would remind me of the Canadian League.
