AAW, now that you've seen them both....

I'm still trying to figure out how 371 total yards and 5 touchdowns is average. From the late 80's to now I'd rank Roschon as the top QB I've ever seen in SETX. He is a true duel threat. A guy that can take off, but is absolutely comfortable staying in the pocket if he can, and also throws a beautiful ball. Chip was at Brook when I was at PNG. He was pretty special, but I'd put Johnson over him. Just a personal opinion. Dustin Long was my teammate in baseball. Great arm, was sneaky fast when he had to be out of the pocket. There's a reason huge football programs are going after Johnson as a quarterback. And I wouldn't worry about the kid reading into the press clippings, if you've spent any time with him you'd know that he's not a ME guy. He always praises teammates. He's the type that scores, jogs to the cooler for water and takes a seat to talk to his teammates. He's also the type of guy that the week after being eliminated from the playoffs you'll see at the stadium working to get better. There are very few players that have the type of dedication he does. There's an IT factor I've seen in players that I've covered and he's got it. The others that I've seen it in since being in the media: Shanderrick Charles, Jamaal Charles and Earl Thomas. Those were the type of players that were just on another level. I really wish Shanderrick wouldn't have had his injury. Does this mean that RJ is destined for greatness in the NCAA and the NFL? Absolutely not. But to say he is average isn't being realistic. -

I'd also like to add it feels nice to be able to freely talk about this stuff now lol.

Also depends on what audience you target. For instance vypesetx.com gets 10,000 plus visits a month. The website is just a small part of what we do though. Our videos on Facebook, twitter and YouTube get anywhere from 1k to 15k views per post.
-
At KBMT we averaged 3 to 4 million hits per month on 12newsnow.com. A lot of websites build those numbers by adding slide shows or polls.

To follow up, media is one of the lowest paid professions and the pay scale is dropping every single year on the local level. For guys in sports media it's even lower. I've been lucky enough to build some years of experience, so I'm still able to live a "normal" life. For those just coming up though it's almost impossible for them to pay all their bills and eat. All the hours worked doesn't add up to very much money for most. We all do it because it's our passion.

Yes they still go every week to a school, but that's not really for sports coverage. It's just a fun segment for the morning show.

Speaking from my last days in TV, corporate owners don’t care about local sports. It was a losing battle I fought until I decided to leave. I’m trying to keep my vision of local sports alive with VYPE SETX. While I can’t cover as many games on Fridays as TV, I still make the rounds for highlights. The downside of that is it is impossible to keep complete stats while holding a video camera and tweeting along with Facebook. Like it or not the focus of sports is now on social media. That’s where the numbers are. I use stats that are sent in from coaches. I’ll email, text, DM, etc. to get info. It’s not made available nearly as easily as it once was. Tonight was different. VYPE had a three man crew at West Brook/The Woodlands. SETX and Houston regions teamed up. So there’s s full detailed article with stats along with video. I’ve also had help from Ronnie Hughes. So VYPE SETX is 1-2 man operation at this time. Doing the best we can. Houston, for good reason, has a multiple employees divided into regions there. To tell you what our new ownership at 12 wanted, think ESPN. Tons of opinion pieces and features. Game coverage was an afterthought. Previews were not allowed. The job I loved was no longer fun. This is the reality of local sports we are dealing with.

I’ve seen every team in 22-5A play besides Livingston.
-
From what I’ve seen 22-5A actually looks tougher than it has in a while. PNG, PAM, Nederland, Vidor and Lumberton look the best so far. Central has potential.

Kirbyville and Newton No longer playing
AshlyHasBeen replied to rykerx144's topic in High School Football
According to Newton’s coaches they’ll be playing West Orange-Stark next year. -
PNG's JV A-Team (Purple) will play Hardin. White will play Baytown Lee.
-
Guess I'll slide in Lumberton / PA Memorial before heading to the Rice Festival since it's right down the road from me.
-
My Schedule Monday PA Memorial at Nederland Thursday College Park at West Brook Friday Kennedale vs West Orange-Star in Nacoghdoches Saturday Early Nederland at Vidor Saturday Late Rice Festival lol

High Island 70 Houston Emery-Weiner 68/FINAL
AshlyHasBeen replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
My second game seeing High Island in person this year. The guys are right. The Cardinals have 2 or 3 players that could play for many 11-man teams in our area. Some definite size advantages for Coach Bronkhorst’s team.
