WO-S School Board FINAL RESULTS
Titletown2 replied to WO-S 89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I live in West Orange and used to teach at the High School and Middle School. I know the people on the board and have had to deal most of them. I know some members on the board have a dislike for Coach Hooks, for petty reasons, and like show their power every once and awhile. I teach and coach at another school district close to Orange. If I were on the board, yeah, I would be pro athletics, but importantly I would be pro education. WOCCISD has to get their test scores up and stop the Exodus from the district. -
Smitty, you said 3200 people disagree with me; no, 3200 people think the status quot in Nederland, when it comes to education and facilities, are just fine and dandy. All I know is, when I'm out at athletic events or talk to any of my Nederland friends, I hear about how great their schools are and great their stadium is and they're both adequate, but their is always room for improvement. I guess the status quot is going to have be good enough for the foreseeable future in Nederland.

WO-S School Board FINAL RESULTS
Titletown2 replied to WO-S 89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The people of Orange have no right to complain if they are going to keep putting the same people on the board. I told Coop awhile back if things didn't improve I'd throw my hat in ring. There is at least three people that need to be voted off the board, the three that continuely vote against WOS athletics. I think I'll file for it, the next time seats are up. -
Voters in S.E.Texas are gonna have to quit getting hung up on the amount spent on athletic facilities as a part of bonds. Football Stadiums, Baseball/Softball Fields, etc., are all part of the school campus and should be considered as such. The Nederland voters were hung up on 3 million dollars for field turf and a pressbox? That's 3 million out of 120.3 million or around 2% of the total bond. That means 98% of the bonds go for new schools and repairs. Why does the bond need reworked. You either want pay for top of the line facilities or you don't. That field turf would pay for itself in time just in the savings from not doing maintaince on the feild. The rising cost of maintaining the old builings you now have should've justified building new ones.

I'd like to comment from an outsiders perspective. The next time you all go to a playoff site for any sport, and you look at that schools facilities and say, " Wow, these are first class facilities, I wish we had this, " I hear that at all the playoff games I attend, remember that you had chance to get "first class" facilities and didn't want to spend the money to get it. However, you are not the only ones not willing to spend the money it takes to have top notch facilities, whether it be schools or athletic venues. Orange voters won't approved anything that will improve their athletic facilities. As an educator, it's nice to know that the Nederland voters don't want their kids to have the best possible facilities because they don't want to pay 50 cents per $100 in property taxes. Your purple neighbors stepped up when it was time to improve their facilities.

**Make Up Regular Season Game Schedule**

Deweyville/Buna game will be tonight @ 6:30 in Deweyville. -
I'd have to rate Earl as the best of the bunch. Also on my list would be Ben Wells, Jermain Hope, Deon Beasley, and Termain Johnson. If Jermain Hope would've been a little taller he would've been playing on Sundays. I think if Earl continues to inprove, He will definitely be playng on Sundays.

We finally have our new track finished. It was worth the wait, it looks and feels absolutely great! Maybe next year we can host the district meet.

I was there on the sidelines when WOS lost to Wimberly and that was the worst field turf I've seen. It was worn and not soft, like say Moorehead Stadium in Conroe. However, the rest of the stadium is very nice. Maybe they've replaced that truf.

Wouldn't This Be Nice For A Team In Southeast Texas?

You do realize that the field turf would also save about $75,000 a year in maintaince costs.and that's a conservative figure. I used to work over there and I have seen what it costs to maintain that field. They also had another bond that adressed those "other necessities." -

If they make the playoffs, they will automatically make the second round. The district has a first found bye.

Dayton's been good but can't beat WOS in regular season. Both years you won the 4A district, you lost to WOS.
