Cleveland vs. Shepherd Game Thread/Cleveland wins 64-53

The Indians are still working to get their legs under them but they pulled out the win with a solid 2nd half. Final in Shepherd: 64-53 Cleveland over Shepherd. -
Cleveland vs. Leggett Game Thread/Cleveland wins 65-55!
indian15/16 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Another sloppy effort from the Indians in this one. They won by a final score of 65-55 but it was a one possession game with 3 minutes to go in the 4th qtr. That Leggett squad isn't deep and has no size to speak of but they play hard with a lot of heart. Cleveland has got to get better on defense and stop with all the 3's or their struggles are going to continue. They may even lose a game or two in distrct that no one expected them to. They are young but there is more than enough talent to make a very good team right now. I will remain cautiously optomistic. -
New Waverly vs. Cleveland Game Thread/New Waverly wins!
indian15/16 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The final in this game was 54-53 New Waverly. It was the third game in a row that Cleveland lost on the final possession. That first win for the Indians has been very hard to come by. Once they do start winning they will come in bunches. -
But can those sophmores eventually beat HJ?
Time will tell, but this year its seems highly unlikely. The big problem for Cleveland's soph. class is they have very little help in the grades ahead and behind them. That is the one advantage some other programs will have. I think their junior and senior yrs they will be very tough to beat.
-
Yes he is a sophmore. We did start our only senior against Livingston. He is a first year letterman at the varsity level. We do have one other senior but he is currently academically ineligible. Our roster consists of 2 seniors, 1 junior, and 8 sophmores. They are better than their record, trust me on that. By district these kids will be tough to beat. Fyi two of the sophmores are ineligible and one is a starting 6'4" guard.

I haven't seen Huffman and it doesn't matter because I have seen Csprings. Csprings has a 0% chance of losing this game. You may think u know how good they r and then u see them and realize they r better than anything u imagined. Their "o" gets a lot of hype for sure, but their defense is just unfair. They r so fast its really just unfair. If Barbay had his mind set on no team scoring against his boys this year that's exactly how it would be, atleast thru district. I know the 2nd and 3rd string kids have given up a few points, but if the starters did it was an accident. If u haven't seen this team play, its worth the trip, and thats coming from a die hard Cleveland Indian.

LIBERTY VS TARKINGTON PREDICTIONS????

Is this for real? A thread dedicated to the outcome of any game involving Tarkington. No disrespect intended, I just don't get it. -
Coldspring Running Back ties state and national record
indian15/16 replied to MEM's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I guess it sucks to be Shepherd. Brent Chapman had a 99 yd carry for a td against Shepherd for the Cleveland Indians 3 yrs ago. Shepherd led that game 3-0 early in the 1st qtr only to see the Indians score 63 unanswered. -
Cleveland vs. Shepherd Game Thread/Cleveland wins!
indian15/16 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Indian offense looked very out of sync against a Pirate defense giving it all they had. The second half for the Indian offense was a major turn around thanks in large part to the play of their sophmore backup QB. He made some big plays with his legs and really opened it up for his teammates. Nice rally tribe! P.S. The antics that Shepherd's coach Bob Jones continues to display on the field are a complete embarassment to the players, the fans, and their community. Some one has got to put this very unprofessional individual in his place. He crossed so many lines tonite I can't count them all. -
Silsbee at Lumberton Predictions
indian15/16 replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have not seen Lumberton this year and it doesn't matter. Silsbee will win this game big. It will not be close. That's coming from a guy with no dog in the fight. -
I couldn't agree more with perception and opinions shared by many on Cleveland's lack of sportsmanship and history. I hold all our kids to the same standards applied in my post. There has been a lot of progress made in this area, but we still have a ways to go. The only difference is I can do it face to face with our kids. The thing I love about Silsbee fans is how easily provoked you can be. It's hilairious. The website really should be called "Silsbee Home Cooking.Com". You guys are so miopic at times.
-
I'm not sure what you guys are expecting from Cleveland fans. If you were looking for nice game Silsbee then,"nice game Silsbee." The game was better and more competative than the final score indicates. I think Indian play calling was a little questionable in the second half, but that's not why Cleveland lost. Silsbee was the better team for now. I hope we have an opportunity to hook up again in a couple of months. The Indians are very young. They start 8 sophmores total(6 of those on defense). Due to an injury, that number went to 7 on defense in the second half. The offense is new and is a work in progress. I like the direction the Indians are headed and I'm still optomistic about there season. I thought Silsbee played hard and represented themselves well. I'll exclude Gaines from that. He's in need of some sportsmanship classes. Talent is all it takes, leave the attitude on the bus son. Good luck the rest of the way Tigers.

**HARDIN-JEFFERSON vs CLEVELAND... HJ wins 75-68!

I respect your opinion, but you have to admit, good players can have great games.
Agreed, but Prudhomme performed equally well against Stafford in an overtime game just a few nights before. But, I guess he just happened to have two consecutive great games. If you have many more than that, you just might be better than many think.
I'm not going to argue that he doesn't have the potential. Just don't think he's there, yet. IMO -
I think there probably wont be another Gus. But maybe, just maybe, that staff over at HJ is just smart enough to figure out what to do next. I know that there was never ever going to be another Bob Cousy but I like what Rondo is doing for the Celtics.
No arguements there. I am about ready to proclaim Sutherland and his staff as "Elite Guru's" of the basketball world. -

Gus's heir apparent was not on the court last night. Maybe they hid him at the sub varsity level this year. What do you think Nash? -

First, congrats to HJ. I wish Coach Sutherland and the team all the best at regionals. Like it was stated, it's hard not to pull for those kids. I have to give my thoughts on the game last night. It was a compelling game and for the most part hard fought. These two teams are shadows of one another in many ways, but like in years past, the "management" of the teams was the deciding factor once again. The officiating was suspect at times but it always will be. That is just the human element. You can't be right all the time. Coach Sutherland can take decent talent with dedication and turn them into bonafied basketball players. Pruhomme has been talked up all year on this site and he is pretty good not great. His greatest talent is he just plays harder than most. What I'm trying to say is, he gets the most out of what he's got. The best player on that team is Gus. He makes every teamate better and able perform while he does the dirty work. The rest of the team will feel his absence next season big time. I hate to see this type of ending for the Indian seniors. My heart goes out to them, a large portion of their failures were not their fault. I will leave it at that. We have plenty of talent in waiting, our freshman class is legit. Cleveland will be back and maybe better than ever. Great season Indians! We love you guys. Agian, good luck to the Hawks.
I have to respond here. I would say that if you score 33 pts in a playoff game against an athletic and highly ranked team like Cleveland, you are, in fact, great. Countless times, Mr. Prudhomme also got rebounds, put backs, and a rather large rejection against a substantially larger opponent who was hailed as unstoppable and the difference maker.
I knew you of all people would get hung up on that. I paid him a compliment. He had a great game. He's not a great player, yet. I will wait to see how his game is without Gus and then decide. -

Hardin Jefferson is living proof ;)
I am not sure if this comment is a stab at HJ or a compliment? :D :D
Come on Zeek, it's a true statement. You, of all people, would have to admit that HJ has had better talent and not made it to state. The most recent trip the state wasn't the best or most talented team, but they played together and Coach S got the most out of his talent. West Sour Lake has tons of talent, but lack discipline. How many titles do you think West Sour Lake would have if Coach S coached them????
2 working on a 3rd this year!!!!
This statement is 100% accurate. Only Estacado would have had a chance against that combination. No, on second thought, not even Estacado would beat them. -
I'm sorry but in order to make it to Huntsville a team needs to have some type of veteran leadership either from a player or a coach and I can sum it up in two words "Todd Sutherland" he knows how to win and that's why for four straight years and possibly a fifth year HJ has been in Huntsville playing in the regional finals. He knows how to get his players ready for a game like this no matter if they are the favorites or not. H J wins in overtime
I have been critisized by HJ fans for making that point several times, because it doesn't give the players enough credit. That's just the way it is sometimes. HJ always has some talent, but Sutherland is always the X factor. He wins everywhere he goes. I sure hope the run ends tonight. ROLL...TRIBE...ROLL!!! -
Not sure where it will, but I'm positive where it won't be: Lee College. That is a fact. There are three locations being considered and Crosby High is one of them. This game will take place in a parking lot before we go to HJ's second home at Lee College.
No- Buy they are trying real hard to learn.
Aah the beloved Nash with a type-o. I simply stated some facts about the Indians matchup with Stafford. I don't recall a cake walk refrence. I think Cleveland will win this game. I am expecting a very competitive game, because a Sutherland coached team does not give away possesions and rarely beat themselves. I think this is Cleveland's year to fullfill their potential.
