Hardin-Jefferson vs Navasota
indian15/16 replied to monknuk68's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I like HJ in this contest based on what I saw last fri. night. One thing that puzzles me with regards to HJ is how they can be so good considering how bad they are from the foul line. It will be harder to put away good teams if they don't improve in this area in a hurry. You can forget about them winning a close game in the later rounds if they continue to shoot their free throws so poorly. I know it was just one game but based on the one game I saw, Johnson is the key for HJ. Everyone knows about Prudhomme is the best player on that team but Johnson is the "Robin" to Prudhomme's "Batman". IMO -

How do you give up 18 rebounds and 6 blocks to one person, let along under 6' and say you didn't underestimate the kids from Splendora. Can anyone answer that one? The nervousness from this site's Broadcaster's during the game showed everyone underestimated Splendora. Coldspring knew Splendora was scrappy. I'm just pointing out the obvious. This is not about what you've done at the beginning of the season but are you ready now and can your team produce when a team is as fast as you. I remember a WOS Football team that suppose to of had 9 kids run under 4.5/40 yards, so speed does not matter to use. I realize our team had their problems but I believe the hype will create focus and determination for our kids. We'll see Tuesday.
Again with the Splendora comparisons. ::) But I'll bite. You are claiming that Silsbee "underestimated" Splendora. So if that's true, are you not selling Splendora short? I mean you stating Silsbee "underestimated" Splendora yet Silsbee still beat them by 15 (led by as much as 21). ::) Also, I agree it's not so much what a team did early in the season but how they are playing now. Well, Silsbee has defeated two state ranked teams in their last 3 games (Pleasant Grove by 25, Brookshire-Royal by 12). So the Tigers are playing quite well of late. ;) Like I mentioned before, I have seen Coldspring play this season. As far as speed is concerned, the Trojans are no faster than the Royal team that Silsbee just defeated. So, Silsbee will produce against the speed of Coldspring, trust me. BTW, the player you mentioned that "supposedly" had 18 rebounds and 6 block shots is McAnally and he is listed at '6"2, not under '6. Silsbee's tallest player is '6"2. It's not the first time a post player has produced those kind of numbers against Silsbee. BTW, he only had 5 points for the game. ;) It is so funny how you want to "key" on the Splendora game but have no comments on the latest game which was a 12 point win over a very good Brookshire-Royal team that is somewhat similar to your Coldspring team. ;) ::)
Hey...Hey AAW, its like captredass said, "we will see Tuesday". The only problem is captredass wont like what he sees when its all said and done. I seen both teams and if Silsbee has a problem in this one I'll be shocked. If Coldsprings takes the bait and enters the track meet with Silsbee this will be over early. Splendora stayed competative because they were able to slow the game down and make some perimeter shots in the second half. Btw, the outside shooting performance at Lee sat. night from all 4 teams was awful. Maybe they just all had an off night. Also, how HJ manages to hang on to Sutherland is a mystery to me. How has a 4a or 5a program not come calling for him yet?

Ive been to this gym several times. There is no way it only holds 1500 people. That number seems a little on the low side. -
It took awhile for me to have time to weigh in on the game. First, congrats to HF. I think the game was there for the Indians taking but the HF fans have exposed our glaring weakness on this thread. It says volumes about the state of a program when your opponent calls out your lack of coaching. I mean they are the ones benefiting and still saw it necessary to make the observation. I'm glad you did because I have referenced it more than once on here. If you attended that game you could only wonder why this particular individual would be incharge of such a talented program. A talent pool that has existed for well over the last decade. Its time for a change and for this coaching era to come to an end for the sake of the program and the present teams near future. I know the man personally and he is a fine individual but that has nothing to do with coaching the game of basketball. It not personal, its just business. I would like to thank and congratulate the Indians for a great season. I think its only going to get better. Good luck HF the rest of the way.
No, I don't know much about Cleveland or their kids athletic status, but I DO know that people will ALWAYS try to figure out WHY certain kids or teams are as talented as they are..."They MUST be cheating" is what is claimed by people who have the SLIGHTEST CLUE as to what is actually going on...Yates' HS head coach, Greg Wise, I have known for many years...he is definitely smarter than most on here give him credit for being..He will not and have not played INELIGIBLE players, or there would have been a PENALTY up to and including possible termination from his position (See Wheatley HS for that example)..Stop trying to figure out or create scandal and just accept what it is.
I never said the kid was ineligible or anyone was cheating. Its the system thats flawed. I respect coach Wise and his sucess but I hope your not about to tell us that he doesn't do things like recruit. ;) ::) -

Seems like early in the year they werent doing very well but the last few scores I have seen seem to be all victories. Am I remembering correctly?
We are very young Stevie. The Indians had a very difficult predistrict schedule but have become a better team with every passing game. We are holding down the 2 spot currently and at full strength will have a legitment shot a win or two in the playoffs. -

I'm not a blinded homer like many attempt to make me out to be I assure you. Coldsprings is the only 22-3a team that earns these honors, but their lone district loss was at the hands of hmmmm...I can't remember. ;)
Then what two teams do you suggest be in place of Splendora and Huffman?
That's a valid question. I wish I had a better working knowledge of some of the middle tear teams in other districts. I honestly wouldn't have a problem with HF or WOS. I think Splendora's record is hollow because of their predistrict schedule and Huffman has done nothing of note at all. Cleveland is better than both these teams. Of course I assume these rankings dont reflect the fact that Huffman just lost on their home floor to Cleveland last night. Fyi, Cleveland should be at full strength this Friday. All players I'm told will be eligible. One starter is injuried and missed the Huffman game. Still waiting to see if he will be a go Friday.
