Finally made it home. Very encouraged by what I saw from Lee. Cedeno has all-district type potential at running back. Very powerful runner. Didn't really break out much tonight, but he is difficult to bring down and punishes defenders. Zellars should be back next week. With him at qb and Cedeno at rb, they will have a nice running attack. Move Leonce out to slot receiver where he would be more useful. Throw in Jobe and Gomez, both tall and rangy receivers on the outside and Lee should be able to move the ball against most opponents unless their offensive line is just an absolute sieve against the more athletic teams. The Lee defense was very surprising. They have Gilbert and Willie at safeties, both really good. The corners are both above average as well. Kion Richardson was causing havoc in the backfield all night for the Rangers. He would tackle both the fullback and the quarterback for good measure on multiple occasions. He would also track down Acosta from behind if the play went away from him. Once Richardson left the game for whatever reason in the 3rd quarter, the Rangers just started stuffing it down Lee's throat right towards the spot that he vacated. The kicker is pretty good relative to what Lee has had in the past. Overall, I am very excited to see what Lee can do with a full assortment of healthy players. Garza is also out. Not sure when he is due back though. I also think they should bring up #2 from the freshman team. They could have used him out there tonight. I think Sterling will be ok. Not sure what is wrong with their option attack. Seemed like they have all the players in there to make it work. They just don't really get any sort of push with that line at all. They also never threw the ball at all. I would have thought they would throw it maybe once a quarter just to keep Lee honest. #11 is a really good runner. The fullback is ok once he gets going. #7 looked pretty good. The plays just never really had a chance. Seemed like the Lee linebackers were having a meeting in the backfield on about every third play throughout the first half. I think they were guessing on the snap count a lot and just barreling through there. Yeah that was a horrible call to try to ice the kicker. Also a bad call by Lee to throw it in the endzone on the 3rd and 10 if they wanted to go for a fg anyways. Should have run it and tried to get five yards and give themselves a more makeable fg attempt. It turned out ok, but I didn't think there was any way Lee would win once Sterling tied it.

Battle of Baytown- who you got

Lee had a lot of talent fed to them from the junior highs as recently as five years ago. The opening of GCM cut that off completely. Lee used to get most of Baytown Junior and a good portion of Cedar Bayou, along with most of HM. Sterling would get virtually all of Gentry and Highlands and a little of the other three mixed in. Giving Sterling the Cedar Bayou kids should have been the turning point. Sterling has kids on the squad now that should be able to get them to respectability. We will see what they can do. -

If that is true about the backup qb breaking his leg, Lee is in trouble. If Zellars were playing, I would feel comfortable in Lee scoring on Sterling, with Leonce, not quite as sure, with Willie at qb it's a crapshoot. Willie can't throw, but he can certainly run the ball. If he is starting, then I would expect a whole lot of running the ball, which they should still be able to do with some degree of success, and then chucking it up to Gilbert every once in a while. -
What's up with the participation at GCM? Do they have good numbers at the lower levels? It always seems like the new schools generally start out having some good numbers come out, with new neighborhoods, and more people into school activities, then it would dwindle down much later. I guess a lot of their students are drawn from McNair which is not the most involved community.

To answer the earlier question, yes I am going to go to the Lee game tonight. To answer the BH question, it must have happened within the past three years. A Lee team from 5 years ago would have more talent than all three teams combined in Baytown now. It's hard to believe. None of the Baytown teams will ever be good again when they can only get 100 guys to come out in the entire program. -

I saw the first half of the Lee-Sterling freshman game at Sterling. Man I was really hoping someone would tell me that was the B team is all I can say. I know it wasn't though, because Lee actually had one guy on the team that will probably get moved up to varsity. He(#2) is a really good rb/db type. I can't imagine that they have too many guys more electric than him on varsity. Lee had maybe 5 or 6 guys that looked like they belonged on an A team. They only had maybe 28 total. Sterling had a couple of big guys up front, but they were very, very shaky running the option. What appeared to be Lee's #1 qb did not play. They wrapped his ankle, and he did not play at all. Just looking at him, he was probably the second best guy on the team behind #2. The quarterback that did play was adequate enough. They had another running back(#33) that got hurt who was also pretty decent though undersized. They had a third running back(#4) that was really fast and big and surprising that he was not on the first team offense in some form or fashion. Lee was up 6-0 at the half when I left. Should have been 18-0 at least if the Sterling science teachers/freshman officials had not taken away two touchdowns on holding calls that were immediately followed by interceptions. Sterling fumbled and bumbled all over the place, got maybe a first down or two in the half. Neither Lee nor Sterling has much coming up the pipeline it appears. Where the heck are all of the guys in Baytown that know how to play football. Lee, Sterling and GCM are all very thin in terms of roster and not very big across the board.
