  1. I have to pick Lee of course...and no way can Lee hold West Brook to under 35. At least it would be a miracle.
  2. It is always pretty crowded at the Lee-Sterling game. We had about 8,000 there even in the cold, windy rain last night. It's more of a general complaint. I was brought up with the idea being hammered into my head not to bring an umbrella to a sporting event. Maybe it's just me though. I did finally find a place where I could see, after moving about three different times during the first quarter.
  3. They have no place at a football game people. Buy a poncho or a slicker suit and quit ruining the view for everyone.
  4. 35-27 Lee won. I couldn't get the phone to work to update the scores. Lee finally quit wasting Jaevon Richardson on defense and used him almost exclusively on offense. He caught one pass, which was in the first few minutes of the game, for a 56 yard touchdown. After that, Sterling wised up and started double teaming him on every play. This opened up the middle of Sterling's defense for the Ganders to run at will all night long. A few very poorly timed holding penalties stopped three of the Ganders drives or they could have put up 50 tonight. Sterling is pretty much Chance Nelson. If he doesn't do it for them, it's probably not going to get done. He had four carries for 113 yards, including a 77 yard touchdown run early in the first quarter, and five catches for 55. He also ran a kick back about 90 yards for a touchdown. Not sure why Lee kicked it to him. Lee was up 20-19 at the half. Sterling interecpted an extra point and took it back for two, then they scored on a hurry up offense against a prevent defense with a minute left in the game. Lee's defense performed very well in the second half. IF Lee can limit the mistakes, that's a huge if, then they can give some people some games this year. If they don't then they won't. It's pretty simple.
  5. Had to get a thread started as I will try to update from my phone, and starting a thread on my crappy cell phone is for the birds.
  6. Jaevon Richardson, wide receiver, Baytown Lee He will be a top five player in the state if he sticks with football over basketball.
  7. These two teams are about evenly matched from all I can tell. Sterling should not be having this much trouble against these teams they have been playing. The Rangers have a lot of athletic guys on the roster. Rashawn Williams for one, I can't believe he hasn't blossomed into a great player. He and Trey Murray were both about equally as good on the Gander freshman team three years ago. Williams had size and speed and like dot hit. He can't do anything with the ball in his hands, so they are wasting him on offense. He is a safety all the way. CJ Mixon would sure look good in Gander maroon right now too. It's a shame that he and Adam Maguire both moved out of Lee's zone right before the season began. It really put Lee in a bind. The Ganders have probably 5 or 6 guys that will play D1 football eventually. That's about it though. They don't have a whole lot of those type guys that have been in the system four years and are just reall solid high school football players. We used to have a ton of those, but now they are all at Sterling or GCM with the realignment. Lee can move the ball well at times if they can stay away from the turnovers. They must have 25 turnovers at this point through the first five games of the season. It's comical really. They just have no ball security whatsoever. They have two good running backs and a fantastic receiver, but he plays too much defensive back and tires himself out. I think the Ganders will score probably 28-35, but I don't doubt that the Rangers could put up 40.
  8. SL isn't very good. Lee is even worse. SL is an average high school team. Just like Clear Creek and Rosenberg Terry were average high school teams that beat Lee. Lee had a couple of guys that didn't play, but the Ganders just don't have enough bodies out there to get much rest. A lot of guys have to play both ways. Lee was actually up 21-20 late in the third quarter, but they just wore down. Jaevon Richardson is the one guy that certainly should NOT play both ways. He should play receiver and return kicks, then go and sit in a recliner and be fanned and fed grapes til the offense is back on the field. He should never touch the field on defense for the rest of the year. They shouldn't allow him to even look at the field when the defense is in. Set up a tv on the sideline with reruns of the Cosby Show to take his mind off of defense. The Lee offense is leaving 14 points a game on the field by playing him almost exclusively on defense. the opposing coaches must be laughing amongst themselves on their bus ride home. He has 11 catches for 207 yards and 4 touchdowns in 4 games so far, and they have honestly only thrown the ball his way maybe 15 times through the four games. It's times like these that make you forget Olin's shortcomings. If nothing else, he knew when he had a star receiver on his hands. He would certainly never waste that much talent on defense.
  9. I think this is as frustrated as I have ever felt as a Gander fan. Lee lost 42-27 tonight. The Ganders were up 14-13 at half time, but they ran out of juice the second half on defense. Seven Lakes piled up 412 yards rushing on over 50 carries. Jaevon Richardson continues to rot away on defense playing cornerback where he has absolutely no effect on the game. He's the best receiver in the district whenever they decide to open their eyes and take him off defense. Lee's new coach is young so he has time to grow into it and learn on the job, but this is a weeekly blunder like none I have seen. May as well put Andre Johnson at defensive end for the Texans, see what he can do from there.
  10. I left at the end of regulation when it was tied at 24. The Chronicle says Terry won in OT 31-24. Having said that.... Lee's qb threw four intereceptions and also had a fumble, so five turnovers from the qb position. One of the fumbles and one of the interceptions both set Terry up inside Lee's red zone. Lee had another fumble by a running back to end up with six turnovers on the night. When you're -5 in the turnover game, it's going to be tough to win. Lee held Terry all night until the final drive of the game. It was the only time all night that Terry was able to drive more than 30 yards. Unfortunately, it was the drive they needed as they were down seven at the time. They were able to go about 80 yards in maybe 15 plays for the tying touchdown. A couple of things. 1)Lee is giving good effort. 2)It might be time to let the freshman get in there at quarterback and see what he can do. The quarterback they have now just isn't working out. 3)The coaches are really bungling the use of Jaevon Richardson. He is in there on Lee's first offensive possession. He catches two ball for about 30 yards, one of them being an easy touchdown. Then, they never really get him the ball again the rest of the game on offense. He is the only weapon they have on offense other than running back Dandrick Jackson, yet they continue to use him up and tire him out by making him play every single down on defense. They have other guys that can do an adequate job at cornerback, particularly when Terry threw for negative one yards on the night lol. They are just wasting him away on the defense. It makes no sense, and hopefully they figure that out with as much money as the 14 coaches must be making between them all. \ He rarely even got in the game on offense after that first drive. You'd think that somebody might stop and think back to how easy it was to score that first drive. The only times they scored after that were on a 74 yard run by Jackson and on a 3rd and long blind hog finding an acorn type play where the qb hit Trent Warren across the middle for a 60 yard td. They simply don't have the goods on offense if Richardson is going to be exhausting all of his energy on defense.
  11. Clear Creek set the trap and the Gander coaching staff stepped right into it. The Wildcats double teamed Jaevon Richardson, the star sophomore receiver for Lee, and the Gander coaching staff froze up. When I say double team, I mean they put two guys on the line like a punt return team does. I've never seen anything like it in all my years. Unfortunately, the Gander offense turned the ball over 5 times, so they couldn't take advantage of the 10 on 9 they had. They never once threw the ball to Richardson which fell right into the Wildcats hands. You still have to try to get the ball to your best player a couple of times at least. Never once.... 17 - 7 Wildcats
  12. I give the Ganders a B+. They are doing about as well as could be expected considering how low their numbers are right now. They have 5 or 6 guys playing both ways at least part of the time. To outplay LP in the second half like they did was quite surprising.
  13. Maverick, he didn't play. He was there in shorts and his uniform top, but he was not suited out. Anthony Webb took up all the slack though for LP as he ran for 220 some odd yards. I think if Perkins had played and if Lee had played a game already like LP this gasme would have been more well played and a tighter game all the way around. Lee made too many mistakes, a lot of them caused by first game jitters I'm sure(hoping). LP didn't make as many silly mistakes, but they also just didn't have enough weapons, so PErkins would have fit the bill there.
  14. There was a freshness to the atmosphere that has been missing the last few years with Olin. You really got the sense that the Ganders were not playing up to their potential. If nothing else, this team seems like they are going to be exciting to watch. They can't afford any injuries, and they are going to have to really be in shape, but they do have 5 or 6 guys that can play at the next level and another bunch that are pretty solid.
  15. Gather round boys and girls and let uncle panama tell yall a story. The Ganders don't look quite as awful as I would have expected. They have to play a lot of guys bopth ways, which ended up causing a lot of cramps, but they made it through. LP took the first drive about 75 yards in 4 plays for a td with less than 2 minutes off the clock. I thought that it was going to be a long year at that point. Lee buckled down(and started using a lot of their offensive line on defense too) and held the Bulldogs to only one long td run for the rest of the game. The Lee offense reminds me of what Olin's offense looked like when he first got there. A LOT of sideways passing. Lee threw a bunch of screen passes to the outside receiver. There was some zone read. There was some kinda trick formation which saw about 4 yards of gap between each of the offensive linemen. That formation never worked the 3 or 4 times they tried it. Guys shot threw the middle too easily. Malcolm Ruben, junior quarterback, looked good. He made the throws he needed to make. He needs to learn when to keep the ball on the zone read play, but he will be alright. Dandrick Jackson ran for 150+ yards with one 74 yard td run and also interecpted a ball.. Jaevon Richardson really played some ball for the Ganders. He's only a sophomore, but he might be the best player on the team.He caught 5 balls for 90 yards and 2 td's and also interecpted a ball.
  16. Sterling has always had a ton of players that started at Lee and vice versa. Sterling fans just liked to make a big deal of it because they were losing every game to Lee for 20 years.
  17. I doubt seriously that Dave rogers would be THAT biased against a Golden Triangle area team. The guy bleeds Golden Triangle blood. He is not a native Baytownian and has no bias towards any of the Baytown high schools in any of the articles I have ever read from him.
  18. Don't forget the woulda coulda shoulda score from LCM. Then you will be set.
  19. I don't think it's going to hurt the football team much, but it sure puts a damper on Lee's track team for this spring. CJ is fast, but he's not much of a football player other than running fast straight down the field. I can remember all of the Sterling fans being upset, claiming that Olin was stealing Sterling players lol Half of Sterling's roster right now started out at Lee. A Middleton, CJ, R Williams, K Williams... oh yeah I forgot Andre Corley. He's another that was zoned to Lee as a freshman.
  20. “They (the LC-M coaches) said we blocked in the back,†he said. “We didn’t have any officials, because of the rescheduling, so we went with what they said.†Hey, if it was a block in the back, it was a block in the back. I'm just trying to play the ifs and buts game with the other guy that said surely they would have tied or won the game portion. Who is to say. As it is, it was 3-0 Lee. Lee probably does have a discipline problem. Olin let players do what they wanted as long as they could play some ball. It doesn't look like Sedberry will be allowing that. Somehow two of the fastest players we had coming back, CJ Mixon and Adam Maguire, are no longer listed on the roster. I'm not sure if they moved or got kicked off the team or what. It's going to hurt though.
  21. Maybe...or you might have fumbled and Lee might have ran it back to make it 10-0. As it is, it was 3-0 with a long Lee td called back by an alleged block in the back that the LCM coaches called.
  22. Lee won the simulated game part 3-0 on a field goal according to the Baytown Sun. They did say a long td was called back for Lee because of a block in the back that the LCM coaches called. Also, LCM was on the goalline when the scrimmage was called a bit early due to too much jawing after the plays.
  23. I wish. Just got off work an hour ago and couldnt make it to Baytown.
  24. I'll repeat here what I put on theother board. It was hot as heck out there. Lee evidently had a lot of boys that couldn't make it back today after it was postponed last night because of lightning. They were without CJ Mixon and Adam Maguire I'm pretty sure at receiver. Xavier Ruben at OL was there, suited out, but didn't play. The Ganders only had 28 guys in uniform. I know our numbers our down, but I have to assume we have at least 40 out for varsity this year(please God don;t tell me we only have any where cose to 28) The Lee qb situation still needs to be ironed out. Jackson and Murray are both weapons on offense, but they couldn't find a hole to run through. The quarterback couldn't complete a ball. I honestly think that Lee didn't get a single first down the whole time. I could be wrong, but they certainly didn't get many. The JV looked even worse to be honest. Deer Park ran all over them. There was a team there playing against Deer Park's sophomores. I think their name was Summer cCreek. They must be a new school. They have some good talent.
