  1. LOL Come on people. I know yall are better than this. Do you expect a little receiver to go head up on a defensive end when he has to block him? Of course not, so let's bring back the crackback block then so everyone will be happy that it's full contact again and we can end some careers with knee injuries. Every argument you make about the football game being contact and not wanting to turn it into 7 on 7 could be made concerning the facemask and crackback blocking rules, yet we still somehow manage to like the game with those rules in place. You are better than this setx forum.
  2. Look guys, I already put my reply to the detractors in the first post, because I knew people would not be able to think outside the box enough. I'm certain that people were complaining that we should make it a flag football league when they first started calling face mask penalties. I'm sure there were some people complaining how we are wussying up the game when they came out with illegal crackback blocking. I'm sure Deacon Jones was upset when they disallowed the headslap. Who has ever said that they shouldn't let you tackle below the waist? Just don't do it in a crackback situation, much like you don't block someone below the waist when you are coming back against the grain. If you can't see why this might be a good idea, then I think you either are not thinking it through clearly and would need an example of it happening on the field to see how exposed the offensive player is....or you just like a good argument.
  3. The same way an offensive player cannot crack back below the waist against the grain of action, a defensive player should not be able to do it either when tackling someone. See Blaine Irby's injury last year for a prime example of this. Receiver catches ball, turns around and instantly a guy is flying right towards his knees. It's a recipe for disaster. And I don't want to hear about how that would wussify the game either. There are already plenty of rules in place to determine legal ways for defensive players to make a tackle such as such as grabbing the facemask.
  4. You may get your wish soon. Lee should be down in 4a before too long. I don't know how they have cooked the books to keep them in 5a this long. The numbers over there are dwindling rapidly. I'd like to play Central again too. The two teams are similar. Fast, athletic, undisciplined, mistake prone.
  5. Murray is another one that is very good. Some one will get a steal when they get him in college. If he were playing for North Shore, he would be ranked in the top 100 in the state. He's the perfect size and speed for a college defensive back.
  6. I think Ruben has more potential to be honest, although Smith is probably rated higher. Ruben is much quicker and meaner. When I saw him as a freshman, I thought he would be a highly sought after college recruit. It's puzzling that he hasn't developed into a more complete player yet. I think this year is the year he puts it together....especially if they let him play defense.
  7. Looks like Ruben and Smith have both committed to Baylor. I think Ruben will actually be moved to defense at Baylor from the sounds of it. I've thought all along that he should be playing defense here. He could be a dominating presence if you turned him loose on the defensive side with his size, strength and agility.
  8. West Brook, Central, PA Memorial and Deer Park. Lee had one taken from us in Deer Park the year after my senior year. We must have gotten 200 yards in penalties. Beaumont and PA teams are always tough to beat when playing them there.
  9. No way was GCM going to compete for anything that first year. They got all their kids from a Sterling program that wasn't doing a lot as it was. The kids were all underclassmen. They did good to win any games at all. Olin got too much credit because he was compared to Sterling. At least Lee was making the playoffs occasionally, but people were holding him up like he had turned Lee into some powerhouse. The Ganders had a few chances to get to a state title game in 1995 and 1997. They haven't really been much in contention since those days.
  10. Lee would be competitive in 4a. They have the athletes, just not enough of them. They have honestly been 4a level in enrollment the last few years as it is. Things would look a lot better if they were playing the Barbers Hills and Crosbys of the world instead of the North Shores and West Brooks.
  11. I can't wait to see a game period. It's been a long wait considering we didn't have spring practice this year. I stay in Missouri City now, so it will be tougher to get back to all of the games. Lee and Sterling should be a good game this year. I think people are writing Lee off a little bit too much this year, considering they were three plays away from beating Sterling, Port Arthur Memorial and West Brook last year and finishing 2nd in the district. Lee just didn't have a quarterback last year. That shouldn't be the case this year.
  12. I will give my own little preview for Baytown Lee this year. I just wish I knew what type of offense or defense the new coach intended on using. I'm guessing it will be a little more traditional than Olin. Maybe we'll even see a tight end or fullback make their way into the lineup at some point. I'm not expecting a whole lot from the Ganders this year. They do have some D1 talented guys, just now a whole lot of them. Qb – Havins – fast and athletic RB – Jackson – fast and athletic, undersized WR – Mixon(junior) – fast and athletic, undersized WR – Maguire(junior) - Big, pretty fast OL – Smith – 6’4†280, recruited by a host of D1 schools OL – Ruben – 6’3†275, recruited by a host of D1 schools DL – Cleveland (junior) – Big, athletic, will play college ball ILB – Fuentes – solid player CB- Warren – will be 3 year starter, pretty fast and athletic S – Murray – Will be going to a top tier school Some sophomores to look for are Haggerty, Barnabba and Johnson. They are all quality athletes that should make some noise on varsity this year.
  13. I'l take him. I'm excited about the fact that they got a young coach. We need someone to infuse some excitement back into the program and get all the kids out and playing ball again. I notice they mention that he is a proponent of kids playing more than one sport. Olin was big time against kids wanting to play basketball.
  14. I woulda sworn this was a thread about Baytown Lee.
  15. I have a sneaking suspicion that Olin was able to provide a good deal of input in choosing his successor. If that's the case, I expect Riley to be named head coach shortly.
  16. Dickinson hasn't really played anyone this year. The few times they did, they got beat. If Dickinson scores over 14 I would be surprised. I will say 42-14 West Brook
  17. Memorial will run for 300 yards and score at least 35 on West Brook in my opinion. It will be up to WB to score more than that. Snelson still plays for Memorial, and he will be tough for the Bruins to handle.
  18. Hope Sterling can pull off a miracle here, but I don't think it's in the cards. In fact, I think only North Shore will advance to the second round from this district. I will be pulling for all of the district teams though.
  19. Olin complaining in the Baytown Sun The Ganders had 13 penalties on the night with 10 of them being major walkoffs. “You shouldn’t complain about the officials,†Gander coach Dick Olin said. “But it’s the same thing every time you go down there. We’ve played down there (the Golden Triangle) twice and we’ve had 32 penalties.†Olin said in Friday’s game he saw the fastest holding call ever. “We snapped the ball and the flag flew,†he said. “They called ‘Holding, No. 57.’ Maybe 57 held, but he didn’t have anybody on him and it’s hard to call that on the snap.†Olin said once they got into a first-and-long situation offensively they were in trouble. “If we get into a first-and-20, we are dead in the water,†he said. “We can’t throw the football and don’t have the offense to make that up.†Olin said the Titans only had two plays on offense. “They had a 94-yard touchdown pass that was like our Seven Lakes game, where we tipped it, then they tipped it, and then they caught it and ran it in,†he said. “Then they also had a fourth-and-20 and caught a pass for the touchdown. “I haven’t seen the tape yet, but I looked at it last night on the bus and it looks like he caught it out of bounds.â€
  20. I just couldn't believe the offense. With all those athletes running around. It was the most predictable, lame offense. It looks like something a 7th grade B team would throw together for their first scrimmage.
  21. On a side note, it's absolutely criminal what the coaches are doing in Port Arthur. The talent they have on that team.... The only team that arguably has more talent in the district is North Shore. Port Arthur has athletes all over the field. To see that atrocity that they call an offense is ridiculous. If Chance Filer or that running back they had played for a team with an actual offense, they would be getting all state recognition. They don't have any problem fielding a defense with plenty of athletes as well. They have at least 12 guys out there last night that I saw that could play in college.
  22. PAM definitely won 13-10. Let me start by saying that both of these teams are horrible. That either of them are going to the playoffs is laughable. The only thing funnier is that PAM will play LaPorte, and Lee beat LP early in the year, so PAM has a chance. From the 3 minute point in the third quarter through the end of the game, Lee had 6 penalties for 80 yards. Four personal foul penalties, a holding and a blocking in the back. Honestly, PAM was ready to pack it in and start up basketball season. The resilient never say die refs kept urging PAM to go ahead and try to win the game. The last PAM drive of the third quarter started with a Lee personal foul, but ended on downs. The next PAM drive had a personal foul on Lee but also ended on downs. The last drive, they finally got it right and called two personal fouls on Lee to get PAM down inside the 10, where it finally paid dividends. It sucks to drive 2 hours from Fresno, TX to Port Arthur to have to endure such atrocious officiating. Again, neither team was good, but this always happens in Port Arthur. I don't think I'll ever go to a game there ever again. I've been watching high school football my entire life, I'm 33 years old,and you never feel as helpless about the officiating as you do when playing in Port Arthur.
  23. Alright, so which one of you Titan fans are going to the game?
  24. No doubt, North Shore will have to make some mistakes. Lee will be able to get pressure on the qb. The wearing down is a huge concern obviously. Lee is very small, and a power running game could chew them up. I don't see any way of avoiding the three and outs. It would take some extreme moves. Maybe put Bates at qb and run the option or something lol
