HD drives down to Groveton 23 then backs themselves up. Big completion on 3rd down for a first but one official over rules the other, incomplete. Verrrry questionable call. Clearly caught the ball in my opinion. HD punts to Groveton 4yd line. 2nd and 3 on Indians own 11 yard line. Bobcats - 0 Indians - 0 End of 1st qtr

I was very impressed with Kountze last week. If they play smart ball and don't get rattled, they take this one. Kountze - 36 Trinity - 22

Hull-Daisetta vs Groveton/Predictions & Comments

Not sure if it's Rodney's son, but they do have a Marquel Thomas who's a solid running back for the Indians. He's a senior and rushed for 997 yards last year (only stat i could find), was an honorable mention all-district running back and also finished 7th in the 100 at the 23AA district track meet with a time of 12.03. Not sure if this is RT's son, but sounds like a pretty decent athlete. -
Got to see a little of groveton and then watching Kountze and HD last week, I would have to say HD is gonna have their hands full. HD FANS NEVER BE BULLIED INTO NOT PREDICTING THE WIN FOR YOUR GUYS! Who cares if all the professional bloggers say you have no chance. Winning always starts with a winning attitude and mind set and that starts in the community. HD I am pulling for you guys. I love the underdog.
Thanks for the support, and good luck the Lions this season. Ya'll are going to surprise ALOT of ppl. I think Koutze will handle Trinity this week. The way I look at it, and I know the way our coaching staff and kids look at it, there is not a team we will play that we don't think we can beat. We respect all teams...... but fear no team. -

I don't see anything wrong with picking HD to win. I looked at the schedule this year and after seeing these kids in off-season and two-a-days, there was not one game on the schedule that I said... "we're gonna get our butts handed to us". I knew Kountze would be tough this year, but you never know what Lion team will show up. The talented, fast, newly committed team showed up last week, and they handed it to us. Groveton will be tough too, but they were 3-7 last year and were beat by Trinity in Week 0. The last two times HD faced Groveton, it was a very competitive game, and I think the Bobcat team of this year is better than those HD squads. ('06/'07). Deweyville is always tough, but HD has a good chance of winning. Lovelady was awesome last year, but their enrollment is down 22% since the last alignment and they lost a ton of seniors dropping down to 1A DII... so they are beatable. Normangee will be tough, but beatable. I'm sure nobody thought that Kountze would knock off East Chambers a few years ago, or any of the other countless upsets that happen every season. That's why you play the games!! I consider myself pretty knowledgeable and I'm decent at picking games (2nd in the pick 'em contest so far... I know, to you AAW), and I think they have a decent shot at winning. We're not playing Dayton or West Orange Stark here people lol. Our coaches and kids read this stuff, so if they don't think that we believe they can win.... what does that tell them or do for their confidence? Just my .02 cents. Go Bobcats, and apparently Shock The World!! -

I think this should be a very competitive game. HD will learn alot from the loss to Kountze. The Lions were a very talented athletic team that is a perfect preparation for possible playoff matchups like San Augustine, Alto, and West Sabine. The Bobcats made some mistakes and really need to stick together late, even if it's not going your way. I know Coach Finney, Huckabay and the rest of the staff will make sure of that. Groveton has been down the last couple years, but they always bring a tough team with lots of talent. They proved that last week by winning against top 10 ranked 1A Alto. HD will need to execute and not make the mental mistakes that they did against Kountze. It's obvious to me that this team will not run up and down the field on you, they will pound it out. They showed they can do that on the drives just before and after halftime against Kountze. Holding penalties kill HD because they aren't built to move the ball on 1st down and 20. The battle in the trenches will be key. I would like to see Darrell Lavalais run the ball more early and often. Groveton beat HD the last two matchups in the playoffs in 2006 and 2007. Both games were very close and I expect another close one. Bobcats learn from last week and deal with some adversity. I say ..... Hull-Daisetta - 28 Groveton - 23 HD will have to execute perfectly, play fundamentally sound with sure tackling, and not turn the ball over. I think they can do that. Good luck and Go 'Cats!! -
Kountze might be ready to make a playoff run. Nice win!
I don't think they can handle Newton and probably not East Chambers, but Woodville, Anahauc, and K-Ville better not sleep on Kountze. They will compete for a playoff spot IMO. They need more team discipline and have some weaknesses, but as far as skill position athletes, besides Newton, I really can't think I've seen a local 2A with this many quality athletes on one team. I was telling a buddy how #50 at DT reminded me of the Botley kid from Kountze last year... Then they announced his name. Younger brother I guess? Arnold is a rediculous talent to only be a freshman and that is a different offense when he's under center. It was a bit chippy tonight, but both teams were engaging in it. HD will be fine and this will be a learning experience. Keep your heads up and I promise HD will rebound. They are a good 1A team this year. HD made a lot of mistakes, turnovers and dumb penalties. Kountze can say the same thing (other than turnovers). The Lions had more firepower and I was impressed. HD impressed me in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs but 1st and 4th was not what I expected. Good luck to Kountze the rest of the season and keep your heads up Bobcats!!

Bobcats are laying down. #34 with a long TD run for Kountze. Lions - 40 Bobcats - 11
Coach Finney will get that laying down crap fixed..I can promise you that Congrats to the lions
Oh I'm sure he will. He and Huckabay were doing some barking at some key players in the 4th qtr. Our top RB got a personal foul late hit on a kick-off that went out of bounds late in the 3rd quarter and I'm pretty sure he never went back in.
