Everyone knows that HD has been "down" in recent years. Everyone in Hull-Daisetta expects more and we do have to stop living on our past, and start bringing back that tradition now. That's why I say anything less than 8 wins and a minimum of one playoff win is not really a successful season. As "bad" as HD has been in recent times, they really haven't been that bad. Over the past 15 years Hull-Daisetta has a record of 94-66 with one playoff victory. That is by NO means great, but it's not just horrible. Coach Barbay and Coach Slack had some success but didn't really get the program back to where it needs to be. Not that it matters since nearly everyone agrees that success is based upon winning playoff games, but just some more food for thought. Here's HD's record over that same period vs. their eight most played/rival schools. HD vs. Colmesneil    HD leads series 7-1 HD vs. Deweyville    HD leads series 7-2 HD vs. Hardin          HD leads series 6-4 HD vs. West Hardin  HD leads series 10-5 HD vs. Warren        HD leads series 8-2 HD vs. Kountze        HD leads series 5-3 HD vs. Evadale        HD leads series 5-2 HD vs. High Island    HD leads series 7-0 Overall HD leads the series vs. these most common opponents 55-19. Not saying that any of these schools are great programs either, but they are the schools closest in enrollment and location to Hull-Daisetta.
Everyone agrees that HD is generally better than the teams listed. But every team listed is among the most pathetic in the state. That has been a general theme of most of these posts. HD is the best of a horrible bunch of teams. This is why HD can not win a playoff game. And I understand that they cant help who is in their district but HD is only slightly better than the rest and not nearly as good as the teams in superior districts.
I understand and agree with some of what you are saying. On the other hand, not sure what Hull-Daisetta can do about any of this. The 8 schools I listed are the local 1A schools in the area that HD plays regularly. (WH, HI, Evadale, Colmesneil). I also listed the 4 2A schools that are average at best 2A teams (Hardin, Warren, Kountze, and Deweyville). There's two problems that keep HD from playing more highly talented teams in pre-district. 1. There's just no great 1A teams in the area. HD could schedule some good 1A teams in pre-district, but the driving distance (both HD going on the road, or those teams coming to HD) would add up too much. Fans will travel, but not all season long. Travel expenses become an issue for this size of school. Below is a list the "good" 1A teams that are in the closest vicinity to Hull-Daisetta and the distance in miles of how far away they are. Tenaha - 151 miles Grapeland - 132 miles Alto - 129 miles Mart - 192 miles Timpson - 147 miles Ganado - 145 miles San Augustine - 132 miles Big Sandy - 200 miles As you can see, that doesn't make for a good travel for either team for a pre-district game. HD is playing Groveton (92 miles), Lovelady (101 miles) and Normangee (142 miles) away this year. 2. Problem number two is that any of the good 2A schools or average 3A schools don't want to schedule Hull-Daisetta. Not that they are scared of HD, it's just that they feel that they have nothing to gain and everything to lose. HD has played 3A Tarkington and Huntington in recent years and HD won those game but those are two VERY weak 3A's who are just looking for a win. Take for instance Liberty. The Panthers would be great preparation for Hull-Daisetta and what they'd see size and speed in the playoffs against the Mart's and Alto's of the 1A playoffs. Problem is, Liberty has nothing to gain. If they go out and crush HD, they didn't get anything out of it.... whoooa big deal Liberty beat a 1A team. On the flip side, if HD beats Liberty, that's crushing to that program because a playoff level 3A team lost to a 1A school. Nothing to gain. That goes for Liberty, Anahauc, East Chambers, Newton, Kirbyville, Cleveland, and the rest of the local good 2A teams and average 3A teams. So HD is just stuck playing the teams that are available locally that we can get scheduled. We can't pick our district, but we are also very limited on teams we can play in our pre-district schedule as well. Just wanted to share that information in case you weren't aware.

 3. Yeah pretty generic after I looked at it lol. All in all, I think "success" at Hull-Daisetta from here on out will be playoff wins. We've made the playoffs like 12 times in the last 15 years but only 1 playoff win. Time to step it up!
 4. This is my idea of a successful season for Hull-Daisetta this year: 1.) win district championship - somewhat successful 2.) win district and win at least 7 games - moderately successful 3.) win district, 8 wins, one playoff win - successful 4.) win district, 10 wins, multiple playoff wins - great success 5.) win state championship - ultimate success
 5. Same to you guys. Have a great season, stay healthy and hope to see ya'll in the playoffs around Thanksgiving ;)
 6. SA beat Groveton 45-21. They beat West Sabine 28-14. CC, New Waverly, Hemphill and Joaquin are all quality wins. I'm not saying San Augustine is not gonna be a very good team, but they did lose three games last year by 30+ points. And two of those were by 1A opponents. All I'm saying is that they are beatable. As far as the 17 returning seniors, that is great at a 1A program, especially one that had a good year in the previous season. That is why they are ranked so highly. I keep forgetting that nobody really knows what's going on at HD except HD people. It does make me look like a crazy person to say that lil ole' 4-6 Hull-Daisetta from the worst 1A district in the state can play with the likes of an experienced, talent loaded team like San Augustine. But soon everyone will see what I'm talking about. Remember how Kountze and East Chambers used to always have great athletes, but they chose to play basketball instead of football. Well finally things changed in EC and those kids started buying in to the football program and they started winning lots of games. Well something similar to that but on a larger scale is going on in Daisetta right now. Kids that were in trouble or wanting to drop out of school are now playing football. Kids that were only basketball or baseball players are now playing football. Kids that everyone had wrote off since their glory days of pee wee football all of the sudden are now buying in and playing for coach Finney. The kids at HD never worked out before, never truly bought in on a program, and never truly believed that they could do anything other than beat Hardin and West Hardin. Lord forbid, we have to play Groveton or Alto in the playoffs. All that is gone now. I saw HD play Mart in 2008 in the second round of the playoffs. HD played a damn good game. Mart capitalized on a couple special teams plays and turnovers and won the game. HD held Mart scoreless in the second half and held them to only 221 of total offense for the night. That Mart team went on to the state championship game. This team that HD has now, has twice the potential of that HD team that played Mart. They are inexperienced at QB (and that '08 team had a damn good lil QB in Sam Elliot), but other than that, top to bottom, this team is better and deeper. Only time will tell. If we lose to Hardin and Kountze and don't look good in the first four or five games of the season, then I'll be the first to say I'm full of crap and was too blind to see the truth. I really don't think that is going to happen though. Like I keep saying..... stay tuned.
 7. If you're scared of the wolf.... don't go in the woods. Well we live in the woods in Hull-Daisetta so we ain't scared!
 8.

SA is beatable...but not by HD...not this year..sorry guys!
Luckily we're not playing them in 7 on 7. Full contact, best 11 on the field, HD can beat SA. It would no doubt be an upset, but they are beatable.
HD can not beat SA under any circumstances in Football, Basketball or Track. HD has no speed or talent. SA will name the score on HD. Ask West Sabine about HD's chances against SA. SA will run through, around, or over HD. Look at the teams SA has beaten compared to HD. This is funny.
You are just seriously off your rocker. I can't tell if your personal battle with HD55 has made you hate HD, or if you are just sippin' the San Augustine Kool-Aid wayyyy too much. Let's take a closer look at this invincible team that can name it's score against Hull-Daisetta. We all agree that SA is a talented team that will be a deep playoff contender in 1A DI this season, but let's not go too overboard. Let's look at San Augustine's team from last year. They weren't 2A state champs, they didnt' make a deep playoff run..... they got beat in the first round. Actually they got killed in the first round of the playoffs by 37 points! And lets' not say that Franklin was a state champ that beat them, no they got beat the next week in the playoffs.  They were one and done. They played Alto early in the season, an 8-4 1A school... that slaughtered the Wolves 30 points. This is the same Alto that got beat by Lovelady 36-21 in the playoffs... the same Lovelady who'd beat Hull-Daisetta two weeks earlier 42-21 (not that big of a difference huh). They did also play Colmesneil from HD's district, beating them 42-0. But then again HD beat Colmesneil 70-14 so not much of a measuring stick. They also got throttled by Garrison (granted another very good 1A team) by 30 points. They did happen to play one of the "horrible teams" that HD plays this year, the Deweyville Pirates. The mighty Wolves did pull this one out.... sqeaking by 12-0. And the terrible Groveton team from last year was one of the Wolves wins as well. All this being said, HD is three times the team they were last year. Even if San Augustine is improved, they will not be naming any score they want to beat HD by. They are not unbeatable. They are a good 1A team.... and in a few more months you will be saying the same thing about Hull-Daisetta. As far as the schedule, you gotta come off that as well man. Quick.... name one other school that plays FOUR schools in their pre-district schedule that are a higher classification?? Kountze, Hardin, Deweyville and Groveton are all 2A schools. I don't care if they have winning teams or not, playing a school with twice as many kids as you have is challenging. Especially if you look at it from you're point of view that since San Augustine was a playoff team in 2A, we should name them state champs already in 1A. We play two 1A schools in pre-district as well. Lovelady and Normangee had a combined record of 19-6 last year. I don't think that's crappy competition. Huffman may wanna try to step up and play some larger schools. Oh wait they did last year when they played Kingwood Park.... and got killed 35-0. Well at least the 1 4A school on yall's schedule this year is Galena Park, picked 8th in their district of 8 teams. Way to schedule those tough opponents Falcons. HD should take note I suppose! Just wait and see.......

 10. Congrats to the Wolves and way to represent your school and community, 1A, and the state of Texas! Great job guys!!

And negative ghost rider, this years H-D Bobcats will not be terrible. I will remind you at the end of the season.  ;) 8)
I'm just curious but define "not terrible" for me.  Even if let's say you go 10-0, who on your schedule will be a quality win? And will it matter when you get beat in the second round by Alto or San Augustine?  Because let's just be honest...that schedule isn't much to brag about.  Lovelady is probably the best team on there and if I remember correctly they lost some good talent to graduation.  Your 2A opponents are consistently sitting at home come playoff time.  And your district opponents haven't been to good when they are in the playoffs.
Exactly, HD will not beat West Sabine if they happen to get them either. They have no prayer against San Augustine or Alto. SA will have 5-7 faster players on JV than HD will anywhere in the program. HD will not beat Lovelady either.
You know what, haters are gonna hate, and that's what ya'll chose to do. That's perfectly fine and you can express your opinions if you want. The way I look at it, HD could have taken the route of scheduling a bunch of tiny 1A schools (sabine pass, high island etc.) and a couple Christian schools to beat down during preseason, but they chose to play Hardin, Kountze, and Deweyville. Maybe they aren't perennial playoff teams, but each of those schools are a higher classification, and when you play and beat a school with twice the amount of kids that you have in your school, that is a challenge, and also an accomplishment. Groveton is another 2A school and despite being down last year, we all know that they are playing in December most of the time. Lovelady was a 12-2 regional finalist in 1A DI last year so no cupcake there. Normangee is a another 1A playoff team. HD can't pick their district, but they play a decent schedule leading up to it. And as far as San Augustine having 5-7 kids on JV faster than anyone HD has, stop smoking the pipe bro. If you are that intent on hating on Hull-Daisetta to say something that senseless, then you will deserve the biggest pile of crow that will be served after this season. I promise you, it doesn't matter if it's Alto, San Augustine, Mart, Price Carlisle or anyone else in 1A D1 Region III, HD will be ready for them. They will not be a push-over and they will believe they can and will win that game. I'm letting the Jackets and Wolves know right now that HD ain't no punk anymore. When we finish 8-2, 9-1, or 10-0, talk to me then. We'll be ready. They better. And they may wanna go ahead and move those 5-7 JV kids up come playoff time.... trust me, they're gonna need 'em!! Go Bobcats!!!
 12. Can't wait for August 31st and the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats vs. the Hardin Hornets! New coaches square off in this old rivalry. HD leads the all-time series 44-7, but Hardin has won 4 of the last 5 since Hardin has been 2A and HD 1A. Who do you think takes this one???
 13. I think that is just HD55's way of down-playing any positives for HD at this point. Slide in under the radar and shock the world. Lol
 14.
Ha Ha Ha!!! Your real funny Broom.. and Chad how old are we? It's all in fun don't take it so personal... No matter who beats who, or what the score is its always a fun game to watch. I wish we had some of the kids that live in Batson playing for us instead of HD. What do ya'll know about Iola? My bank is always open on Saturday's excluding holidays of course. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
It's all good Brent. It is always a great game no matter what. I don't know too much about Iola. HD played them last year and they beat us 12-7. We had a bunch of turnovers and shot ourselves in the foot a bunch. They shouldn't be too strong this year since they squeaked by HD last year and we didn't have that great of a team. You know me and Big Chad are gonna hype up HD every year, but this year things are different. WH had a great team last year, and I know they have a bunch of kids coming back so it should be a great game.
 15.
Will, and I repeat WILL NOT HAPPEN!!! I don't care how many transfers they get in, and you can take that to the bank... ;)
I hope the bank is open Saturday November 3rd.... cause that's where I'll be heading after the Bobcats destroy the Oilers!!
 16.
Coach Finney is a good coach and will do a great job in HD. I definatley expect them to make the playoffs and be much improved over last year. They will have a diferent attitude and they may well beat teams that they haven't in the past. I am not in the area anymore so I wont see them or Normangee play for that matter, as I'm more north now. But I think HD will do well this year and expect them to be a much more disciplined team than in recent years.
Thanks for the support. I know it's still June, but things are different in Bobcat land. Only time will tell and we shall see come Friday nights this fall.
 17. I'm not going to argue with recent history because HD has not been impressive at all in the playoffs as of late. With that being said..... This is a whole new Bobcat team that will be out there this year. Don't be surprised if HD doesn't shock a bunch of folks this year and the next few years to come. In the last 20 years, HD teams that went up against Groveton, Alto, Mart etc. were beat before they walked on the field. There was the intimidation factor that HD used to have back in the old days. This new group of Bobcats lead by Coach Finney won't be intimidated. It doesn't matter if it's Alto, San Augustine, Mart or whoever.... especially Normangee... that lines up on the other side of the ball, they feel like they are gonna win no matter what. I know a bunch of people are gonna chime in and say that athletes win games, which is true, but attitude and confidence go just as far. HD starts off the season with a few games against some 2A schools (Hardin, Koutze, and Groveton) before taking on Lovelady in week 3. Watch how HD performs in those first few games and we'll see what everyone is saying at that point.  Oh and as far as HD's district, it is very weak. Three of the four teams have new coaches, three of the four teams had losing records last year, and the obvious one is there is only four teams in the district period. The Bobcats are gonna slaughter this district.
 18.

Mark my words (and I'll be the first one to eat crow if I'm wrong), but barring multiple injuries, Hull-Daisetta will dominate their district and their schedule as a whole this season. I see every game on the schedule this season as a winnable game.
I got your words marked, cause if HD wins district, that means they get a bye then all likely hood play the #2 seed out of district 10 , which will either be Alto or San Augustine.
Well to be the best, ya gotta beat the best!!
 19.
West Hardin takes this district this year.....HD needs some reloading time after the past few years......
Last year was HD's rebuilding year. Everyone knew that HD was going to have a young team and WH was going to have one of their better teams in recent years, and WH proved that by putting a good whoopin' on HD. HD did have a bad year. 4-6 is nothing to toot your horn about, but we knew it was coming. We had kids playing out of position, kids not playing that should have been, not playing disciplined football, and the kids felt like Coach Slack had given up on them, so they did the same. This team still beat district foe Colmesneil 70-14. This team still was up 13-0 in the first half on 11-2 regional finalist Lovelady, before turnovers did them in. The same Lovelady team that beat WH by 50. For those of you who don't remember, even through the "down" years in Coach Slack's tenure, HD still won the previous 4 seasons in a row vs. WH until 2011. So why does the worst one bad year with a young team at HD compared to a very good season with a veteran team at WH equal WH running through HD this year. Since 1990 WH has won TWICE as many games vs. HD than they did in the previous 30 years. Even with that, HD is 16-6 vs. WH since then. Look at my posts on here for the last 6 years. Rarely do I crawfish when I'm wrong, or gloat when I'm right, but this time I'm saying it with everything I've got.... HD will surprise everyone this year. Those of you saying 3-7 or 4-6 will see when HD is winning week in week out this fall.
 20.
So which 3 bobcats will be signing D1 scholarships.
I never said anything like that. What I said was that other than those 3 DI guys, there wasn't alot of other talent when he got to Maud. Plus those three kids weren't Division I players until Finney got there. Through his off-season program, strength and conditioning, and winning playoff games put those guys on the map. If not for that, they could have easily just been three more big kids that play 1A ball that coaches think can't compete at a D1 level. There was another poster on this board from Teague who mentioned that his son didn't even play football until his senior year when Coach Finney motivated him to play. He's now playing college football. There may only be 1 kid on HD's team who has D1 talent, but that doesn't mean they can't outplay teams that have 3 of those players. Not to mention, there's a big difference in a team that has Burns, House, and Dunbar playing O/D line, and a team that has Traylon Shead and Malcome Kennedy in the backfield like Cayuga had a few years ago. HD will average about 230lbs across the front five with good depth at offensive/defensive line, three or four 6' 200lb tweener TE/LB type plyerers, and four or five skilled running backs. That makes for a good team with the right coaching and motivation in place at the 1A level.
 21. Coach Copeland did a great job in his short time at HD including taking the '98 Bobcat team to the second round before losing a close game to Franklin when HD was still in 2A. With that said, there wasn't the same buzz about him when he came in and there wasn't as many changes and positive vibes from the kids, administration, and community as there is now. Coach Finney does have a formula for success and it will be evident here in a couple months. Consider this... Coach Finney took over a team in Maud that had a record of 3-17 in the two previous seasons and lead them to 7 wins and a playoff birth in his first season. His second and third seasons would add 11 and 12 wins to his resume. In 2010 he took over a Teague team that was 4-17 in the previous two seasons including 1-9 the year before he got there. He added another 7 wins and another playoff birth his first season there. So with that being said, Coach Finney is taking over an HD team that is only one year removed from an 8 year playoff run. I was told that he feels that the talent he has here at HD is better than when he took over both those other programs. And before anyone mentions "The Maud Squad" who went to TCU, that's only three players and none of them were skill position players. Go by the field house and see how many kids are up there working hard. Talk to any of those players and ask them how they expect to perform this fall. These kids have bought in and are dedicated to him and his program. Like I said before, I'll be the first to eat crow if I'm wrong, but I bet you I'm not. Hull-Daisetta is back, and may God have mercy on those in their path!!!
 22. I've been around HD football since the 80's, through coaches Dupree, Kimble, Roberts, Copeland, Barbay, and Slack... and I've never seen any of them energize a program and do what Coach Finney has done is such a short amount of time. Mark my words (and I'll be the first one to eat crow if I'm wrong), but barring multiple injuries, Hull-Daisetta will dominate their district and their schedule as a whole this season. I see every game on the schedule this season as a winnable game. I think they sweep their normal 2A rivals in Hardin, Kountze, and Deweyville. I think they win 2 or 3 against the likes of Lovelady, Normangee, Galveston O'Connell, and Groveton, and then roll through their district. West Hardin had a very good team last year, and I'm not knocking them for what they did to HD, but this year will be back to what we're used to. I don't think an 8-2 regular season is far-fetched. Don't wanna create un-due pressure on the team, but with the talent and coaching in place this season, taking it one game at a time, I know that is attainable. 24. After reading one of the threads on here (SE Texas Football championships), I got to re-looking at some of the old Hull-Daisetta stuff from the 1930's when they set the then national record for consecutive wins with 43 from 1936-1939. I was gonna post on the thread my argument that HD has been to at least 5 championship games, since back in the old days, smaller schools only played to a Regional Championship as opposed to state championship. Anyway, all that aside, I was just amazed when looking at the scores from those seasons, and even more-so with the schools that HD was playing. I'm going to post the season scores below for those four seasons. Notice that several of the schools on the list are no longer open (since combining or opening newer high schools) and that all the current schools on the list are 3A, 4A, 5A, or split up to now be multiple high schools! Every town on here, EXCEPT Hull-Daisetta has gotten bigger by leaps and bounds. Not sure if Hull-Daisetta could beat any of the teams on these schedules now. Hard to believe that little town was able to accomplish that so long ago. Go Bobcats!!!
 25. I know a couple Liberty football players that need to come on back home to HD. Their dads were Bobcats, but their moms were Panthers, and Liberty won out. If ya'll wanna win next year, come on back to Bobcat Country! Plus the grandparents of these two kids live in Hull and Daisetta and I'm sure they'd love to see them more often  ;) I'm just joking on that  ;) Hope everything works out for Fitz and his family. Also wish the best for the new QB at Liberty and the Panthers on the upcoming season. Go Bobcats!!
