1. Great game, the kids played hard and it was a lot of fun to watch. I was very impressed with how well the kids from the small schools (1A/2A) played. The best athletes on the field was probably Green, Morrisy, Lindsey, and Leday, but the best "football" player on the field was Kirby Johnson from East Chambers for the West squad. That kid was all over the field. I was sitting with a couple Anahauc coaches and after we kept hearing #10 on the tackle, they said boy we got tired of hearing that when we played EC!
2. So how bout that Coach Finney... yay.... hello....nothing?? Lol. I swear this stuff is better than TV soaps!! I'm not getting into this other than ..... GO BOBCATS! YOLO!!
3. Move in students will be eligible to play under two circumstances: 1. Having being full-time enrolled by the sixth day of the current school year 2. Being enrolled for 15 days prior to the athletic event (student is eligible to participate on the 15th day). This is from Sections 400 and 404 of the UIL rules book. So basically a move in student that enrolls and attends at the beginning of the school year (between Aug 27th and Sept 1st for HD) is eligible to play immediately. The 15 day rule is for kids that move in to a new school district during the middle of a semester. (actually anytime outside of the first six days of fall class). So these particular student athletes will be eligible to participate in HD vs. Hardin on Aug 31st as long as they are enrolled in school that first week of class. No 15 day waiting period.  ;)
4. They are not transfers, they are move ins. Had nothing to do with athletics. May not be studs, but a quality player at a 5A school (even a bad one) will be a good player at the 1A level.

Heard they are solid kids but don't know their names or what positions they play. Anyone have the scoop???
Did they play football or Varsity football?
Not sure what level they played. I heard they are juniors, but still not sure if that means juniors in the fall, or finishing their junior year now......

7. Good game by the Oilers and congrats on the big win over HD. Lot's of good skill players on West Hardin's team this year. Good luck to you guys the rest of the year. Bobcats, lick your wounds and get ready for next week. Don't lose hope and continue to work hard and stay focused.
8. Thanks guys and good luck to both teams tonight. It's gonna be a good one!!
9. Man, it's gettin' deep around here I'd say. I'm not getting into any of this other than to say a few things. HDBobcats55 is the most passionate HD Bobcat fan out there. He does come across in the wrong way to alot of people, but that's just who he is. It's hard to "play nice" when you are that passionate about something. I have seen Joharr and HD55 both give props to each others teams over the years, and have seen both of them come across somewhat bitter after a defeat. That's just the nature of the beast. I appreciate both of their comments and input on this forum and it makes for good reading material and interesting entertainment. On another note, I do think that this rivalry is as heated, hated and intense as it's always been. I played against all the same guys that 55 mentioned from 7th-12th grade..... we beat them every year until our senior year, and it was crazy in Batson/Saratoga after that game. What I'm saying is that kids are gonna be friends and respect each other, most likely more than the fans and parents in the stands, but in this game, it's something different. It's bragging rights for a year between two communities only minutes apart. The same oil fields, the same vacuum trucks, the same drive to the deer lease or WalMart. This is important for two tiny communities that don't have a whole lot more going for them. I'm from HD and I will always be a Bobcat. My kindergarden teacher told our class on the first day of school that you are Bobcats.... and it's not alright to lose to West Hardin. That's just how it is. You can throw the records out every year, because it's new blood, new leadership, and new talent.... but it's the same old goal..... win it for your town. HD does have a long and prideful history of tradition. Maybe they've been mediocre on the field for the last 15yrs or more, but that doesn't change the way the kids look at it. West Hardin comes into this game wanting to be that team that beats HD. The team that puts those loud mouth smack talkers in their place and shuts them up. HD comes into this game expecting to win. It's what we do against WH. It doesn't matter if WH is 8-1 and HD is 2-7..... the Bobcats expect to win, and it shows on Friday nights. It's a mental edge that HD has over WH. Just like Groveton and Alto had HD's number in the playoffs year after year, HD was behind before the opening kickoff because of the history and intimidation those teams had over us. We will see tonight. I think WH may be the more talented team, but that doesn't mean anything come 7:30 at Bobcat Stadium. HD puts West Hardin out of the playoffs tonight in hard fought, intense, well played game. Good luck to both teams and I'll be the first to congratulate the Oilers if they pull out the win. Hull-Daisetta - 26 West Hardin  - 18
10.
I dont want to mess up the name but it sounds like Lawnmowers... i know i *@$*ed that up but thats the one.. i wish the best for him.. he carried his pads so well and always finished the run
Sounds like Lon Morris in Jacksonville, TX
11. If you count when the small schools could only go to a regional championship back in the day, then Hull-Daisetta has 4 titles. They only let small schools play (I think) 4 playoff games. HD went undefeated in 1936, 1937, and 1938 winning as far as they could go. They also lost the 1961 state championship game.
12. I think this will be, as it always is, a very good game between these two teams. HD is playing much better than they did early in the season. They have a bunch of good athletes, but their numbers are very small. Deweyville has is 40% larger school based on enrollment numbers, but that doesn't matter when it's 11 on 11. HD has owned Deweyville over the years, I'd guess a ballpark 20-5 win/loss against the Pirates in the last 25 matchups. I wouldn't be surprised with this game going either way....With that said, i'll make my biased prediction: Hull-Daisetta:34 Deweyville:  28
13. Kountze did look improved over the last few years for sure. They just outplayed HD. The Lions have some great athletes in the backfield and lil #7 (Jon Jon Warren is his name I think) can flat out fly. If the kid gets in open field, he's dangerous. Also the Lions DT #50 is a great player. IMO he single handedly affected the outcome of the game. The kid dominated the line of scrimmage and seemed to blow up every other play in the Bobcat backfield. He simply couldn't be blocked, double team or not. HD  has some very good players as well and they will come together as the season goes on. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.
14. As far as kids getting into college on heart, grades and work ethic, there's some definite truth to that. Now is a kid going to go out and performing like John Stelly,no, that's not going to happen without extreme athletic talent. Kuddos to that kid and what he's accomplished. HD has had players that could have played at various levels of college football that did not make it for different reasons. Grades, work ethic, toughness, guidence, and off-field issues, and lack of exposure to name a few. An above average high school player in our area (ie. all-district performer etc) can make a team at a NAIA/DIII program. Most of those kids don't have the talent to contribute and be stars, but some develop later and get into a college strength and conditioning program and excel later on. It's just like any level of the sport or any sport for that matter. The difference between NFL stars and NFL backups is a slight amount of talent and work ethic (in most cases). The difference between college starters and NFL regulars is the same. That goes all the way down to the lower level college programs. Kids with good direction and guidence, tremendous work ethic, good grades, and a decent amount of talent can play college football. As a former player with the grades and athletic ability to start and play on a DII level school, I didnt' have the work ethic or the want-to to get there. Just like many others from all the schools in our area, I didn't have my head on right when I was 17-18years old.
15.
Daisetta has only 1 playoff win since the might state champion team.   But I don't think that's what the thread is about.  Comment was made that a hardin kid playing at Dakota state or wherever was not a big deal.  you know...EC doesn't just rack up playoff wins either.  Yeah yall won a couple last year..  maybe a couple when the Thomas kid played.  i don't remember any deep runs though.
That's not true. They've had more than that, but playoff wins have been far and few between in the last 25 years at HD. It didn't help that HD played teams like Groveton, Alto and Grapeland in the first round year in and year out. I want to say that 8 out of 11 playoff years from the mid 80's to late 90's, HD played a state champion, finalist or semifinalist in the first round. I have been disappointed with HD's playoff performances since dropping down to 1A, but here came those same playoff powerhouses down with us.
