*Hardin vs. HD...Hardin Wins/Comments*

From what I was told, it was actually one of the lower bones in his leg is broken (tibia or fibula), and he also has ligament damage as well and is done for the season. Unfortunately he's a senior, and is the heart and soul of the Bobcat team this year. Some of the kids call him "Animal" and we call him "The Toolman" in the stands. Tim will be missed and we all wish for him to have a quick recovery. The injury occured on a big run that he broke open down the sideline too :'( Gilmore's injury is less significant and should be back pretty soon. -

Hey, what can I say, Hardin brought the heat. They are an excellent team with ALOT of of athletes. HD's run defense is really tough, but if Taylor has time to throw, he will pick you apart. With DJ Hall, Marquis James and Hunter Davis, Hardin has a lethal passing attack. The better team won the game last night. HD killed themselves with turnovers, I believe they had 6 all together. Two fumbles inside their own 10yard line, an interception ran down to the 1yd line, and an interception returned 42 yards for a TD late in the game. I'm not making any excuses by any means, just saying that is something the Bobcats must improve on. That's 4 gimmie TD's and you're not gonna beat anyone doing that. Villamez was held in check with only one run over 10 yards that I can recall. I'm sure that was part of their gameplan like bushpilot pointed out, but he still had 15+ carries and was D'd up pretty well. He's a beast on the defensive side of the ball though, as is #52 Beltran. Hardin will do very well this season, and barring injuries, look out Anahauc. Despite the score, I'm pretty sure most unbiased people at this game will admit that HD has a pretty darn good team as well. I heard H. Davis tore his other ACL, hopefully that's not the case. Tim Taylor's injury sustained in the 4th quarter after a 30 yard run for HD did not look good either, and it may end his season. He's an excellet two way player for the Cats. Keith Gilmore also left the game in the 2nd quarter which was a huge loss for HD in the second half. He was on crutches and told me he was going for x-rays this morning. I would have rather lost the game 60-0 than to lose those two kids to injury. Speedy recovery to all three kids, and good luck to both teams. -

From a quality source I have learned that the Bobcats have posted a picture of Hardin Hornet's star running back in the locker room for motivation. Supposedly the picture is of him sometime around the 2nd quarter of tonights game.... here's the link to the actual picture.... [Hidden Content] -
West Hardin vs. Warren predictions??
HDBobcats9 replied to oilerman21's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I hate to beat a dead horse, but I gotta correct something. It was a controlled scrimmage with coaches on the field behind the offensive team. During a turnover, the play is whistled dead and the ball goes over. HD did committ a turnover in which a Warren player recovered with somewhat open field, however the play was blown dead and the player continued into the endzone. Call it what you want, but the score of the scrimmage was HD-2 TDs, Warren-0 TD's. HD won the scrimmage, but in no way was it one sided or dominated by the Bobcats. Warren showed alot of grit and hard work and will have an improved season over last year in my opinion. Everyone stayed healthy for both teams and both teams got some good reps in. With that being said, I will try to redeem myself by saying that myself as a Bobcat fan was happy to comeout of the scrimmage the way we did. Warren is a bigger school and has a very talented team this year. The district better not sleep on the Warriors this season. They will miss #12 Brandon Young from last year who I thought was a very good player, but it seems like they have more kids this year that are quality athletes. As I said before I was impressed with Warren's skill position players as well as their defense. Good luck to Keith's cousin Matt and the rest of the team. Wishing both teams luck, but I think the Warriors take it to the undermanned Oilers..... Warren - 26 West Hardin - 13 -
HD vs. Hardin Week 0 Predictions?

I just started reading this thread but that remark is true class! I'd be embarrassed having someone from my town say stuff like that. And isn't hull daisetta one of the bigger 1A's? I thought they used to be 2A HD was in the 2A classification but unfortunately has lost numbers year after year and has dropped to 1A. Hardin is a larger 2A and was actually a 3A for a couple years a few seasons back. Current numbers at Hull-Daisetta is about 180 students grades 9-12. The lastest number I could find on Hardin was from last year which stated their enrollement was 360 students, but I'm sure that number is slightly larger now. Reguardless, Hardin is twice the size of Hull-Daisetta by the numbers. -
HD vs. Hardin Week 0 Predictions?

most ppl have them above HD The funny thing is WH doesnt have a horrible team this year. Our defence is awesome. Our offence may be not as good as it was last year but we have alot of changes this year. We will prove everyone wrong when WH comes out on top. Well you guys lost a whole lot, so we will see. I hope that defense is better than last years that gave up 39 points to HD. And if you're offense isn't as good as last year, yall may be in trouble since all last year's WH O could manage was a 4th and goal touchdown heave on the last play of the game. I know last year is over, but it was 39-8 Bobcats in Oiler Stadium. Good luck to you guys this season, and you should probably be in the classroom and on the field bustin' your tail, not online talkin smack with all us old has-beens....lol. Sorry, back to Hardin vs. Hull-Daisetta! Is it Friday yet??? ;D -

West Hardin vs. Warren predictions??
HDBobcats9 replied to oilerman21's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Warren's skill position players are actually pretty impressive this year. Their QB will be solid and their fullback and tailback both look like track guys. Not real physical and didn't appear to like to get hit, but both have home run threat capability. I honestly don't know how West Hardin is looking this year, but I know they lost alot. The way I see it : Warren - 26 West Hardin - 13 -
Hull-Daisetta/Deweyville Scrimmage
HDBobcats9 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think both teams actually looked pretty good for a scrimmage. Deweyville was big and physical like they always are, and did have some pretty good speed. Their running back is a pretty tough cookie, and will do well this year if he can get some decent blocking. HD impressed me in the fact that they were pretty physical right back against a bigger Pirate line. I know HD kept things pretty vanilla with the Hardin scouts in the stands. Good luck to the Pirates this season, I think they have alot of potential. -

NO PRESSURE HORNETS !!!!!!!!! It's just us the little 1A down the street. [glow=red,2,300]VILLAMEZ is my hero too !!!!!!!!! [/glow] I hope he likes snot bubbles and getting hit in the mouth !!! NO throwing up Friday night !!! Them H-D HEAD-HUNTERS COMING !!! That's some funny stuff right there....lol. Let's Go Bobcats!! -
I think Villamez is a dang good "ball player" and athelte. He's not a great running back by any stretch of the imagination. He's a quality athlete that you can just plug in at any position at the 2A level, and he's going to be successful. If he played QB for Hardin, he'd be a dang good QB, same at the WR position. Some kids just have it, and he does. I personally think Aaron Cook is the better running back at this point in time. With that being said, last seaon was Cook's FOURTH year as starting RB at HD, and it was Villamez' first at Hardin. We'll see how this season goes, but to me as a running back he's a little stiff, lacks a some vision and cut back ability. He doesn't look blazing fast, but he can create speration and run away from kids. I think his future is on the defensive side of the ball as well at the next level, but heck why not have him in the backfield to rush for another 1500 yds. As far as him playing at Texas A&M, I don't think that is too far fetched. I mean the kid will end up 6'3" 215lbs with 4.5 speed. I dont' think many D-I schools would be embarrassed to have a kid with those stats on their roster. I hate when people who support big schools bash on the small school talent. If MV was at Dayton right now, he wouldn't be their starting RB, but I promise he'd be one of their top defensive players, and he'd be getting D-I hype, and nobody would say a bad thing about it. It's just a double standard. 1A Cayuga has all world RB Traylon Shead coming into his senior year, and he's already committed to Texas. His teammate Malcolm Kennedy has committed to Texas A&M. MV isn't Traylon Shead, but he's as good or better than Kennedy. It's just the scouts and eyes saw him, and realized he can play ball, despite the level of competition. Sorry for writing a novel, just wanted to share my open. SOAP BOX ----> Me stepping off it

I gotta get in on this. I will say that West Hardin's pre-district this year is actually tougher than it usually is. With that being said, there is no way that they have as tough of pre-district matchups as HD. Look at this this way. West Hardin toughest game - 2A New Waverly. That's a no brainer. Bad thing is, they will get beat by 50 so I don't know how much it will help, but they will play a very athletic Bulldog team. Average game - 2A Warren. The Warriors are coming off an unimpressive 2-8 season and return only 5 starters on each side of the ball. Warren's two wins last season came at the hands of winless 0-10 Trinity and... sorry to say West Hardin. HD did play Warren after the Kountze game was rearrange due to the hurricane, and HD beat Warren 32-6. Weakest game - Bridge City JV. Bottom line is, its a junior varsity team. It's not WOS or Barber's Hill, it's average 3A Bridge City's JV. At Bridge City, if you're a sophomore who can play, you will be on varsity, botttom line. They will be playing against leftover sophs and freshman, and that's the truth. On the filp side: HD's toughest game - 2A Hardin. The Hornets are coming off a district runner up playoff run. They return 9 defensive starters as well as their star RB, starting QB, and top 2 WR's. This is the same Hornet team that lost in the playoffs to.... New Waverly. They could easily be better than New Waverly this year. Hardin had quality wins over Buna, East Chambers and Hemphill. Hull-Daisetta defeated Hardin in the season opener last season. HD's average game - 1A Tenaha. Tenaha is coming off an 8-3 playoff season. They lost to state runner up Cayuga in the playoffs 18-16. Losing to a state finalist in the playoffs by 2 points is pretty impressive in my book. They return several starters including their starting QB and several key weapons. HD's Weakest game - 2A Kountze. Kountze is coming off a winning season at the 2A level that produced quality wins over district runner up Hardin by 20 points and 1A district champ Evadale by 25. I'll go ahead and throw it out there that Kountze also beat Warren by 3 TD's, and also beat Bridge City's VARSITY team last year. If you really look at this breakdown, you can see that HD's schedule is much tougher than West Hardin. Just breaking it down in my opinion.

HD vs. Hardin Week 0 Predictions?
HDBobcats9 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
LOL Bobcat55 said everybody hates Daisetta because they have the best athletes. Which is it? HD does usually have better athletes than alot of schools similar in size. That's how they've been able to compete with larger schools like Hardin, East Chambers and Anahauc over the years. I personally think Hardin has the more athletic team this year. They bring back more experience and excellent speed. HD usually has the speed advantage over most of the teams they play, but that's not the case this year against Hardin, or I do not think so. When district comes, that will be evident. Hardin, Tenaha, and Kountze in my opinion is a great pre-district schedule which will matchup HD with teams similar to those they will face when playoff time comes. Just my .02 cents. -
Not just because I'm a Daisetta boy, but the Hull-Daisetta vs. West Hardin rivalry is easily one of the top 3 in southeast Texas. I have to admit, I went to a PNG vs. Nederland game at the Reservation, and it is awesome! I think as far as on the field intensity, this one may be the top rivalry in the area. As far as HD vs. WH, it's gotta be close. Our own mini version of MidCounty Madness. Each and every year, no bonfire is ever safe. It was common to see blue oil derricks painted throughout Hull and Daisetta and red and black paw prints leading up to Oiler Stadium in Batson and Saratoga, due to some late night creativity. Fights at the concession stands used to be common practice as well. If your hometown team has a bye during the HD vs. WH game, I suggest you should get out to see it. You wont' be disappointed. My top 5 area Rivalries: PNG vs. Nederland Hull Daisetta vs. West Hardin West Sabine vs. Hemphill Silsbee vs. Jasper Lee vs. Sterling Honorable Mention: East Chambers vs. Hampshire Fannett Orangefield vs. Bridge City LaMarque vs. Texas City West Brook vs. Central Hull-Daisetta vs. Hardin Extra Credit: Dayton vs. Barbers Hill has the potential to be a great rivalry down the road.....

Hull-Daisetta will win the district this year in a breeze in my opinion. Evadale's best opportunity to beat HD was last year, and they capitalized on it. Congrats on the district championship Rebels. I don't really see a huge dropoff of talent at HD, where as WH and Evadale probably won't be as good as they were last year. Of course this is all my opinion, which means absolutely nothing. I think Chester and High Island will look to be the spoilers and who knows about Burkeville bouncing back and Colmesneil. Good luck to all teams, but this is the way I see it going down this year. Hull-Daisetta - 1st Evadale - 2nd West Hardin - 3rd Chester - 4th Colmesneil - 5th High Island - 6th Burkeville - 7th Sabine Pass - 8th

HD vs. Hardin Week 0 Predictions?
HDBobcats9 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Man, where have I been this summer?? Talk about some smack getting ran on a thread! But you know what, this is what Hull-Daisetta vs. Hardin is all about. As previously mentioned, it's a big rivalry game, and both teams show up with their A game, and it's usually a war. I talked to HD55 last night, and broke down my opinion to him. Hardin has talent, and alot of it. Minus Stelly and Pate, this is the same team that made a 2A playoff appearance last year, now with just more experience under their belt. HD lost proven leaders in stud RB Aaron Cook (who yes, did out-rush Stelly and Villamez combined last year), QB Sam Elliot who was a three year starter, and countless other seniors like Tre Dickerson, Scotty Gilmore and Yancy McCaully. Hardin on the other hand returns star RB Mitch Villamez, proven QB Myles Taylor, and explosive WR's like Hunter Davis. To top off HD's losses, their predicted starting QB Colby Huckabee transferred to Orangefield with his dad. If you look at all of the names and stats on paper, including Hardin having twice the enrollment numbers as HD, this one is a no-brainer. Hardin should take it to HD and never look back. You know what though, it probably won't happen because the Bobcats have two intagibles that cannot be coached, taught or stressed if it's not already present, and that is HEART and PRIDE. Hardin probably has 4 or 5 kids that may be better athletes than HD's best one, but it doesnt' matter. The last couple months, I have got to know several of this year's Bobcat team and I'm impressed with the fact that they are true bobcats, and know what it means to wear that uniform. I promise you when Friday night comes, and the bright lights shine upon the new Hornet field, HD will be ready, and they will will be as jacked up as you can possibly imagine. With the opening whistle, just like last year, Hardin will get hit in the mouth play after play by smaller, slower and less athletic kids wearing red and black all night long. That's what HD tradition is all about. We don't feel like we "can" win every game we play, we know we "will" win every game we play. Losing is not acceptable at HD, and you are groomed from a young age to understand this. The crime rate can be up, and the stock market down, but nothing matters in Daisetta except the Bobcats winning on Friday night. Like the old Aggie saying, we don't lose any games, we may just run out of time. This will be a battle as it always is, but I promise the Bobcats will show up and bring the hat. Hardin won't back down, as they are a talented well coached group of kids that knows how to win coming off last season. I can't wait for this game, and I hope everyone on this thread will be there to see this war. I'm not going to predict a score, I'm just gonna say let the best team win. Both teams bring it, and leave everything on the field. Good luck to both teams, and let's go BOBCATS!!! -
Just FYI, for the question asked, Mitch had 81yds rushing against HD last season. It was the first game of the year, and he improved as the season went on, exploding for 300+yards rushing against EC if I'm correct. HD and Anahauc were the only teams that slowed him down at all. He's a very good running back, possibly the best in the area, especially among the smaller schools. He's also a quality defensive player as well. Much respect from HD to Mitch Villamez.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Derrick's family as well. We were good friends for a couple years after playing summer league basketball together. Very tragic incident, and he will be missed. Its very weird that the day before this happened I wrote a post asking why Derrick wasn't getting any love on the "best Dayton QB" thread. I hadn't seen or even really thought of him in over 10 years until I made that post. He was a very intelligent guy, a great athlete and a tremendous person. We'll miss ya DB from Daisetta/Raywood.
-
Cody Green is probably the best overall QB I've seen in Dayton. Dakari is the best athlete to plat the position for the Broncos. A guy hasn't got any love was Derrick Briggs who played on some average Dayton teams. That dude was a great athlete. I played summer league basketball with him and his athleticism was unreal, although his attitude was less than stellar so I assume it was similar on the field. He went on to play DB for Texas Tech.

I can't put it any better myself HD55. This season was as good as any in memory with the young men that played their hearts out each week for the Bobcats. Congratulations on a great season and I was glad to be there each step of the way with you guys. Thanks for the great memories and for all the underclassmen, keep your heads up and be back next year ready to work harder and give 110%. To the Bobcat coaching staff, great job as well preparing these young men week in and week out. Bobcats Fight, Never Die. P.S. Coach Slack, thank you very much for allowing me to give the pre-game speech and giving me the opportunity to help fire the boys up going into battle agianst Mart. That is something I will remember forever, and you don't know how much that means to an old Bobcat like myself. When you said HD55 and myself don't bleed just red, we bleed red and black, I got cold chills as thoughts and memories passed through my mind of what it means to be a true Bobcat. Thanks alot, and continued success in the future.
