Best running back in 23-2a??
HDBobcats9 replied to HtownHornet's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I've seen most of these guys play, and I have to lean towards Blanton Craft from Buna being the best running back of the district. He's got great vision, quick feet, and pretty good break away speed. He's not afraid to run someone over if he has to, to finish a play. I think Villamez is the best overall athelte of the guys being mentioned. He's definitely a kid anyone would want to have on their team do to his versatility. Stelly is a big, strong guy who's put together like a tank. As far as being a great running back, no way. He's stiff, lacks vision and he doesnt' know what a cut is. He does run through arm tackles and is a load when he gets loose in the secondary. He's a MUCH better linebacker than he is RB. I haven't seen the McNeil kid from Anahauc play, but from what I hear, he's the real deal too. He may be better than all of these guys. The Raymond kid from EC is a darn good back as well, but just not ready for prime time. He's got it in his genes to be a great one though. Raymond looks the part of a star running back moreso than any other of these players. Williams and Wise of Kountze (don't know which is which) On is just a speed back that doesnt' bring a whole lot more to the table, but hey, you can't teach speed and he's got plenty of it. The other is a bruiser similar to Stelly, but probably not as tough. I haven't seen Craft play this season, so I'm basing it on what I saw last year when he was just a stud, and I'm sure he's probably improved. Not intimidating, no size, speed, or athleticism that just jumps out at ya, but he just has it. Just my .02 cents. -
From what I understand Aaron Cook will be out this game, and maybe a couple more. Not a severe injury, but using precaution. The kid's a gamer and wants back on the field his senior year, and you can't blame him. With the Bobcat's coming off the loss to Evadale and AC cheering them on.... Hull-Daisetta - 32 Chester - 12 P.S. On a second note, some of you guys will get to hear these names, and they will make a big impact. Kevin Thompson, Tre Dickerson, and Keith Gilmore. Bobcats ground game isn't the same without the Cookie Monster, but these other kids are darn good players and are all talented athletes.

Man, this thread is still going....lol. Hey, I've already admitted that we got it took to us by Evadale. They outhustled, outplayed, and outcoached us. We didn't play a perfect game but the Rebels had a big part in that. Don't count HD out just yet, we've already seen how crazy this season has been in the 1A-2A ranks. We could say that Evadale beat HD and HD beat Hardin, and Hardin beat East Chambers, so Evadale would be EC. Or we could say, that EC slaughtered Deweyville who beat Evadale pretty handily, so there would be no competition in that game. Bottom line is, that'w why we play the games. Evadale was the better team Friday night, and we all agree on that. P.S. Swami, you really need to go back and read my posts. I think you are just throwing me into the mix. I'm level-headed and always admit when I'm wrong. I predicted HD would beat Evadale bad and I was wrong. As far as childishness and lack of respect in my posts, please read what I've wrote.

Hard to pull that off when his knee got blown up and he left the game on his second carry. Oh here come the excuses. I saw number 7 the entire game and he had way more than two carries. HD had 21 yards at the half???????????? The mighty rushing attack? # 7 Played till the 4th and he wasn't getting a yard. The only positive yards he got was a punt return. Don't make excuses. HD got their butts kicked by a much smaller school tonight. You and your partner 55 have dished it out mightily the past couple of weeks, learn to eat a little crow. You know what I should probably let this thread go, but I'm gonna reply to this one. If you really watched the game, Aaron Cook was injured on HD's second possesion of the game, on his second carry. He came out until about 6min til halftime. He gutted out, sucked it up, and played through the pain but he was not himself. That's what true Bobcats do, and he's definitely one. As good as HD's offense has been this season, ultimately it has revolved around big #7. When he's not running over people, the outside running game isn't there, and neither is the pass. He was injured again on the last play of the 3rd quarter when he was wrenched back on his knee and he fumbled and the Rebels recoved. He did not return. I'm not saying that if he was 100% the whole game that the outcome would have changed, but it did make a difference. If you can't accept that, then you're not living in reality. Injuries are part of the game and I can accept that. I think myself and HD55 have givin plenty of props and accolades to the Rebels. They won fair and square and took it to us. Good luck on the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

**SETXsports Week 6 Rankings**
HDBobcats9 replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think the small school ratings are pretty dead on, but I can see where Woodville should probably be up there somewhere. Woodville layed the wood to Warren (previously ranked before losing to #6 HD), who's already beat #9 West Hardin earlier in the year. Evadale has been smoked by unranked Deweyville and Kountze and their only win was against lowly Colmesneil. Eagle fan, I hear where you're coming from. I like where Hull-Dasietta is sitting, tops among 1A's in the area. I feel like we couldn't handle the top 4 rated teams on the small school board. As far as Kountze being ahead of HD, I think that would have been a great game, but due to Hurricane Ike, we'll never know. Great job with the rankings and keep up the good work. -

Tradition...how big a part does it really play?
HDBobcats9 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree with the folks who've already chimed in that tradition plays a big part in a team's success. Being from the small town of Daisetta I know what this is all about. In the tiny community of Hull-Daisetta, Bobcat football is LIFE. We don't have a full time gas station, a stop light, or a place to get a steak, but boy do we love our high school football. The town itself isn't built around a courthouse or a town square, it's built around Bobcat stadium. I remember being in elementary school and knowing every player on the varsity team and wanting to be just like them. At 7 years old, you learn that being a Bobcat is something special, and something that not many people can claim, so you are a chosen one. You learn it's not alright to lose to Hardin or West Hardin (whether that's a good thing for kids to be taught or not), and that you will one day carry the hopes and dreams of an entire community on your shoulders every friday night. Five of my best friends in the world began kindergarden with me and after 13 years of school and friendship and 6 years of blood, sweat and tears on the gridiron, we had the priviledge to walk across the graduating stage together as Bobcats. My great-grandmother, God willing will be 94 years old this Halloween and she was a Hull-Daisetta graduate in 1933, and my great grandfather, years past graduated in 1932 as a Bobcat. Many summers back, going into my senior year, my great grand-dad was lying on his deathbed in a houston hospital in a coma with no signs of life. As the family talked to him and held his hand, looking for something to pull him out of pitiful state he lye in, my mom told him that all the boys on the football team had shaved their heads to show brotherhood and commitment for the team and the upcoming season. She took his hand and rubbed it on my head, but as his eyes remained closed, tears began to pour from mine. Then suddenly his eyes opened and he regained contiousness and smiled. He loved nothing more than Bobcat football and I feel like that was what brought him back to us for a short time, before he passed two days later. Stories of pride and tradition run abundant throughout our little po-dunk town, and that's what makes it special to us. My grandparents and parents went to HD and one day my children will wear the red and black as well. We don't have a fancy auditorium with surround sound or a giant stadium with shiny new bleachers to seat thousands, but we have something that's sacred to us, something that is passed on generation to generation. We still live in a place where kids are proud to wear their jerseys down the street on game day, with old folks patting them on the back, shaking hands and wishing them luck. We still live in a place where everyone knows everyone else, and the friday night lights are the only draw in town, and everyone is there. A senior citizen bus travels to each away game followed by convoys of former Bobcats each away game to support our young warriors as they take to the field of battle on friday nights. Home games are usually standing room only, and fans of all ages, races and backgrounds pack the stands in support. Hull-Daisetta vs. West Hardin is our own version of Mid County Madness and nobody misses that game, not for any reason. Each year a different group of young men get to experience this magical feeling in our little sinkhole layden town that is inexplainable to all outsiders. Alot of people will say, we should get a life, or move on, or whatever you want to call it, but they just dont' know what it's all about. Whether our oil fields run dry, the crime rate is up, or the stock market is down, it doesnt' matter as long as the Bobcats are playing on those cool fall friday nights. -
Hull-Daisetta vs Evadale/Game Back At West Hardin!

We'll wait until after friday night to do that BIGMO By the way, I'm from Daisetta ;D -
That was a huge hit that he took from #7 Aaron Cook, glad I wasn't the only one that saw that....lol. In my unbiased opinion (and I've only seen the Warriors play the one time vs. HD), #12 Brandon Young is a very good player. He's the best playmaker on the Warriors roster, so it only makes sense to get the ball in his hands more often that not. I personally didn't see alot of favortism in reciever selection on Warren's behalf, and I was actually glad to see #12 not get the ball as often as he probably should have. The Warriors have good tough gritty team that plays hard, and will hopefully makes some noise in district play. Good luck to the Warriors.
