  1. HD came out moving the ball well through the air, ending with a Sam Elliott to Tre Smith TD, putting the Bobcats up 7-0. HD was also stopped on downs at the Kountze 10yrd line later in the first. In the 2nd qrt. Kountze started shutting the HD passing game down. HD snapped a deep snap over the punters head and Kountze recoverd inside the Bobcat 10yrd line. 2 plays later, the Lions were in for the score to tie it up at 7-7. Kounzte is stacking 8 men in the box even with HD running 3 WR sets and is all over Elliot in the backfield on every play. Kountze added a field goal just before halftime. Sounds like the Cats better make some halftime adjustments to pick up the Kountze blitz or it maybe a long night for the Bobcats. *Scotty Gilmore, last years starting defensive tackle for the Bobcats is now starting at the same position for the Kountze Lions. I've heard from two different people that he is the driving force on the Lions defense and has been in the backfield on just about every snap. Stay tuned for more updates!!!
  2. Kountze - 10 Hull-Daisetta - 7 Halftime
  3. I gotta go with the Buna Cougars line if it's anything like it was last year. Those guys blew us (HD) up last year. That's the only game we were dominated all season and it was because of Buna's DL/OL.
  4. Buna plays Hull-Daisetta here in a couple weeks and that should be a pretty good 2A vs. 1A matchup. (as well as WH vs. Warren and HD vs. Kountze this week). Buna handled us last year pretty easily. Their offensive/defensive line was the difference. If you guys remember HD dominated the local 2A ranks for a number of years before the late '90's when EC started their domination. Then again that's before schools like Buna, Anahauc, and ...... NEWTON moved down to the 2A division. Does Buna have alot of those OL/DL guys back this year? How do you guys see the HD vs. Buna matchup going?
  5. There were some fumbles last year in this game, by both sides. I wasnt' aware that Kountze beat HD in the relays earlier this year during track season. I dont' think the Lions whole relay team were unclassmen that are on the football team this year though.
  6. Congrats to Hull-Daisetta at #23 in 1A on probably the least accurate poll in the bizz. Ohh well, a ranking is a ranking and pulling off a win this week against at tough 2A Kountze team should help. Go Cats!!!
  7. I'll try to find out about Gilmore. He was a stud on the defensive line last year as a sophomore but I havent' seen him playing so far this year. I know he's had some off the field issues and that may be the reason behind him not playing yet.
  8. That has to be him...lol. That dude was a manchild. Imagine this guy being 6'5" 285lbs. in highschool, and he would deep snap on punts..... and then be the first guy downfield lighting up the return man. He was a freak. The only guy I can remember being from a small school in this area that was preseason Parade All-American going into his senior year. He jacked up plenty of guys in his day on his way to being a 4 year starter and 1st team all SEC selection at LSU. The sad thing about that guy was that he tore his ACL on the last play of the Sugar Bowl his senior year as they were running out the clock in victory. He went undrafted if I'm not mistaken and I don't know if he's stuck anywhere in the league.
  9. Oilcans in a squeaker..... West Hardin - 22 Warren - 16
  10. I totally agree with this statement. The mustangs used to be whip up on alot of local 2A teams. Unfortunately they dont' have the talent that they used to field in the last 15 years or so. Buna is not the same team we've seen over the past few years either, meaning that in a good way. These two statements equal Buna in a blowout. Buna - 48 Burkeville - 6
  11. I know Kounzte improved last year after getting some bad apples off the team. This is a different Lions team from last year with better attitude, team spirit and confidence. This is the same Hull-Daisetta team as last year, just with more speed and talent. Should make for a very interesting matchup. Good luck to you guys.
  12. I will have to go HD in this one as well. The kids really didnt' get on track as well as they could have last week and still pitched a shutout against a big and fast team in Westbury Christian (also a basketball school). The reason I have to go with the Bobcats on this one is because they return all of their skill players from last years team which beat a decent Kountze team last year 22-0. Speed kills and HD has plenty of it this year. All four kids and the alternate on their state runner up sprint relay team are playing RB/WR this year including the state champion in the 100m and 200m dash. They bring even more small school speed to the table than Teneha did. I do think that this will be a pretty close game though. I played for Coach Hodges at Hull-Daisetta before he went on to his head coach position at Kountze and he is a great coach. He was younger and less experienced then but he already had that drive and spirit that it takes to make kids believe they can win any game. I wish him and the entire Kountze team good luck for the rest of the season. I call this one: Hull-Daisetta -26 Kountze - 12
  13. FINAL: Hull-Daisetta - 24 WB Christian - 0 Game domianated by Bobcats on both sides of the ball.
  14. Simmons right, Simmons left, Simmons up the middle. That kid ran all over HD. Horrible play calling by the coaching staff in my opinion and the kids came out flat in the 2nd half. West Hardin wanted that game more than the Bobcats did and in the 4th quater it showed. Zach Simmons had to have at least 30+ carries and well over 200 yards. HD should have kept feeding their big backs (Cook and Patterson) who were both getting 5 or 6 yards per run in the first half. They abandoned that and the rest is history. Everyone is wondering why Sam Elliott who's played QB the whole season did not play QB at all, only played defense. This was a great game until the end and the Oilers just poured it on. HD didnt' try to get the ball to their all-state calibur WR Tre Smith until it was too late and in obvious passing situations where he was facing double and triple coverage. I questioned the play calling all night long, but hey, i'm not the coach, just a fan with some football knowledge. Good job to the Oilers and they deserved to get this win. I dont' think they were 36-7 better than the Cats, but they were defintely better than us Friday nigtht. It was an awesome game atmosphere and both sides were loud and rowdy. I saw a bunch of old friends and give alot of respect to this years' Oiler squad. Those kids play hard and and played to the whistle every play. HD played hard as well, but it seems like they weren't on the same page. Nine guys bustin' butt on every play, and two guys taking a play off, and WH was able to find our weeknesses. I still think that HD has the better atheltes overall, but they werent' the best team. (and they dont' have Zach Simmons who is an absolute stud. Reminds me of Levi Moore that played at Deweyville in the early 90's). Good luck to the Oilers in the playoffs and hopefully we will turn things around and be ready for playoff time as well.
  15. I would love to see the 2A Newton Eagles play 1A Alto this year. Newton is a top 2A school, but I'd love to see how this year's YellowJacket team would fare against them. Last time I checked, I believe Alto has outscored there oppenents around 440-14. They're 8-0 with 6 shutouts and their average score is 56-2. They would probably be a top 5 2A school this year and would beat alot of good 3A schools. It's pretty amazing what kind of talent can come around every now and then in these small communities. That would be a great matchup.
  16. I agree with just about everything that has been said so far in this thread. This is a huge rivalry game and records can usually be thrown out the window. This year is even more special since both teams are serious playoff teams and this will be for the district championship. Hull-Daisetta is a very strong team this year, and I've been pumping them up all season long. I think WHALUM hit the nail on the head with the consistency issues. It all depends on which team comes out with the most intensity and plays determined ball. I dont' doubt HD's talent, but maybe their lack of experience in crutial games. Only 2 seniors start on this team and we have 7 sophs. starting both ways. If these kids step up and can handle the pressure they will win this game hands down. WH is a very tough team. Simmons is a work horse and is our main concern. If HD stops, or contains him HD wins this one by 14+. That's easier said than done though. This game will come down to intensity and mistakes, or lack there of. If both teams play a clean game, HD wins with it's superior speed. My prediction: Hull-Daisetta - 28 West Hardin - 20
  17. I was wondering how you could nominate a game to be game of the week. Looks like I dont' have to. Hull-Daisetta @ West Hardin should be a great one. Two huge rivals playing for an undefeated district championship. Bobcats finished playing their last district game tonight before the WH matchup by taking it easy on the Sabine Pass Sharks in the second half on their way to a 48-7 victory. These two teams have only had 3 common oppenents throughout the year so far. Both teams are 3-0, with Hull-Daisetta outscoring those oppenents by an average of 34-7 and West Hardin outscoring those same teams 37-8 per game. Looks like both teams are pretty evenly matched with both going in with 6-2 records. We'll see you guys in West Hardin!!!!
  18. I picked the Coogs to hang in there with EC in this game. Looks like 21-13 at the end of the 3rd qtr. that they did until the Bucs turned it on. Congrats to the Bucs on the win!!
  19. Hemphill forgot to bring it earlier this year against 1A Alto as well, with the YellowJackets blowing out the Hornets 42-0. Newton should win this one going away.
  20. I know it doesnt' make alot of sense on paper that a team that lost to Anahauc could play with the Bucs, but look closly into that game. They had 9 turnovers  EC beat Anahauc, what 48-6 I believe. I know holding on to the ball is part of being a good team, but this is just for example purposes. What would the EC vs. Anahauc score had been if EC turned the ball over 3 out of every 4 times they had it, with 5 of them being in their own territory. (From what I understand from my sources) Buna only held on to the ball 3 possesions the whole game, and they scored two touchdowns on those trips. Long story short, that was a terrible game for the cougars. These kids can play. In my opinion they will beat Warren and Deweyville and play East Chambers a very tough game.
  21. Thanks for the updated stats. Patterson should be at the mark I gave him (550-600+) after this week
  22. I played against Levi and Logan in highschool and my brother played against Zane (so I watched him play several games). I dont' know anything about Mark Burks and the Williams kid from this year is a hoss. I personally think there is no comparison as to who was the best back on this list. Despite the crazy runs and yards Zane put up, Deweyville's best running back was....... LEVI MOORE That guy was an absolute stud. Size, speed, toughness, vision, and heart. The Pirates werent' very good teams when he played, but good-night that dude was awesome. Unless somebody hit him in the ankles and got lucky, one person would not tackle that guy. I remember one play where Levi lost about 15 yards but broke about 9 tackles and juked out 4 or 5 guys.....on one play before being swarmed under by about six Bobcats. That play was on our highlight film, but really it was a highlight run for Levi. He had below average offensive line and still put up pretty big numbers. I played against Logan from 7th-12th grade and he was alot like his brother, but not as much size or power, but more flat out speed. When they both started in the backfield together in '94 it was like Thunder and Lightning. I dont' think anyone would disagree that this was Deweyville's best starting backfield ever without a doubt.
  23. Thanks Bridge City Card, we've got Sabine Pass for Homecoming friday night. Good luck to you guys in the big game vs. Kirbyville.
  24. If you're getting Patterson and HD's stats off of the chronicle website, they are not even close to actual statistics. I'm pretty sure Patterson has broken 100yds rushing in at least 3 games so the 312 total is pretty absurd. They show that he has 41 carries on the season (7 games). That means he's averaging a little under 6 carries per game. Aaron Cook, our second leading rusher is only showing to have 30 carries on the year giving him about 4.5 carries a game. I'm pretty sure any teams top 2 running backs will average more than 10 carries a game combined...lol. I think Patterson's totals are a little closer to 550-600 yards and 9TD's. I'll have to verify this but I know for a fact the 312 is bogus. The Chronicle has Zach having 878yards on 116 carries which seems pretty realistic over 8 games so far. They may have the Oilers stats right, but for some reason HD's stats are messed up. If you dont' believe it, just look at the total indivdual stats for each team. West Hardin is shown to have ran 355 total offensive plays, where they show HD running 146 total plays. I dont' think West Hardin has ran 200 more additional plays than the Cats so far..... All in all, Simmons and Patterson are both good backs for these two teams. Zach is one tough kid, a good athelte, and runs hard every play. At 5'10", 220lbs, Tyree is a load to bring down and has break away speed. Even using these Chronicle's reported stats, they are both averaging the exact same yards per carry, an impressive 7.6 ypc.
  25. No way this game is a blowout in my opinion. I know Thomas and Leday are gamebreakers which Buna doesnt' have, but this Cougar team is good. They should be a one loss team (losing a tough game to a pretty good Orangefield team) right now if not for 9 turnovers against Anahauc. Maybe HD isnt' as good as I think they are, but like I've said before, Buna came to Daisetta and manhandled a pretty good Bobcat team. Buna's offensive and defensive lines are dominant in my opinion. They play smashmouth ball and that may be something that can throw EC off. They dont' have any blazing speed, but they get it done. Just my .02 cents. If EC blows Buna out, i'll be the first to admit I was wrong. If they contain Tremain Thomas at all (and I know that's a big IF), and win the turnover battle, they can win this game. My prediction: East Chambers - 42 Buna - 34
