West Hardin at Hull-Daisetta Game Thread/H-D wins 44-14!
HDBobcats9 replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Oilers receive opening kick and go 3 and out. HD picks up a first down and Darrell Lavalais takes one 53 yards to the house. Bad snap over holders head still results in 2pt completion. Bobcats - 8 Oilers - 0 8min in 1st -
There's gonna be some sad Bulldog fans about 10pm tonight. Pirates and that big offensive line are gonna crush New Waverly. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a dog in the fight and not a fan of either team, I just feel that Deweyville is far superior as long as they play to their potential. Could be over by halftime in my opinion.

Hull-Daisetta vs West Hardin Predictions/Comments
HDBobcats9 replied to H-D BOBCAT 55's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ready for this game. Let's get it on Bobcats!!! -
I think New Waverly may be the luckiest and most inconsistent 7-1 team in the state. They squeak by 1A Lovelady 12-6 and 1A Normangee 21-19. They pull off a big win in the opener against a pretty good Woodville team, beat a decent Groveton team, pound a banged up CC team but struggle with Anderson-Shiro for 2.5 quarters. I say the Bulldogs are finally exposed and the luck runs out. Pirates with a big win: Deweyville - 41 New Waverly - 24

Iola vs Colmesneil Predictions/Comments
HDBobcats9 replied to H-D BOBCAT 55's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I really didn't think Iola was going to be as tough as they were. Hayden Martinez is a do-it-all player at QB and safety. HD shut him down along with their 6'7" tight end. John Kay, their tailback is a very good player and was the reason the Bulldogs hung around with the Bobcats. I haven't seen Colmesneil this year at all, but I'm hearing good things and I know they have alot of experience now. Colmesneil will have to limit Martinez and stop the big play if they want to win. Iola is big and physical. I see it.... Iola - 41 Colmesneil - 22 -
Hull-Daisetta vs West Hardin Predictions/Comments
HDBobcats9 replied to H-D BOBCAT 55's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is a huge rivalry game so weird things can happen. I think Coach Finney has the Bobcats focused and not getting ahead of themselves. Hold onto the ball and pound it out. Bobcats roll.... Bobcats - 41 Oilers - 12 HD Nation!! -
I understand where you're coming from. This years' HD team is pretty darn good though with great coaching. I think what coach Finney has done to this program is tremendous. Talent wise, this team is right on par with some of the better 7/8 win HD teams of the recent past. But beyond that, the kids just get it this year. We will see how it goes come playoff time. This is the best Kountze team I've ever seen and don't forget that they beat Shepherd this season that just knocked off Huffman and appears to be a playoff team in 3A. This is also the best Deweyville team I've seen in a long time as well. Don't forget that there is significant enrollment differences as well especially between a 2A-D1 and a 1A. Something else I got to thinking about as well is who HD's playoff losses have been to recently. Well I did the research and since 2004, the Bobcats have been beaten by Iola, Lovelady, Mart, Normangee twice, and Groveton twice. I find it interesting the HD has beat Normangee, Lovelady, and Iola this season and dominated Groveton but narrowly lost due defensive and special teams scores by the Indians. What I'm getting at is these kids have been playing traditionally tough schools and getting wins against teams that normally beat us. Our pre-district schedule got us battle tested and prepared HD for the playoffs. I think HD makes some noise in Region III playoffs.
Im pretty sure WH and colmisniel arent very scared of iola. Im not saying either of these teams will beat them but they will be in the game until the 4th quarter. Iola barely lost to H-D and H-D is an average team compared to some of the teams WH AND colmisniel have faced this year
HD is not average in any way. Colmesneil and West Hardin have gotten their only wins of the season against Burkeville, Sabine Pass and Evadale who are a combined 4-19 on the season. HD and Colmesneil only have one common opponent and that is Lovelady. The Lions beat Colmesneil by 30 points in Colmesneil. HD beat Lovelady at their place. Lovelady also beat West Hardin in Saratoga. HD and West Hardin have both played Hardin ad well. HD beat the Hornets by three TD's and yet Hardin beat West Hardin 40-12. I'm just saying.... the only decent team either team has played, it was over at halftime. They will find out soon how real HD (and Iola for that matter) is very soon.

Bobcats take the second half kickoff straight down the field on an 8 play drive capped by a 4 yard TD by Darrell Lavalais. Garrett Hickman with a big hit creates a Bulldog fumble on the next series. Austin Edmondson on the next play goes 56 yards for a score. 2pt conversion good. Bobcats - 28 Bulldogs - 16 2min in 3rd -

If that is the case, he would not be able to play until the first week of playoffs.
It's actually 15 calendar days from the day of enrollement. The student is eligible for athletic competition on the 15th day as long as attendence requirements are met and he is academically eligible. If he enrolled today, he'd be eligible on November 9th against Colmesneil. If he enrolled last week, he'd be eligible as early as next Friday against West Hardin. So much for HD being one dimensional with no receiving threats ;)
so how much yall paid Liberty to nab him? :D
Decision was based soley on academics. Hull-Daisetta has a great teacher/student ratio and a tremendous English department ;)
I love how everyone wants to bring up the "Groveton beat Alto" card. I guess since Shelbyville beat Groveton we aint got the snow balls chance against Shelbyville? Yes Alto played bad that night and the better team in Groveton won that night, but like I've said, there's been changes since then and a few of the injured back, but no excuse Groveton beat us. West Sabine brought up the Groveton/Alto game and look where it got them? Same thing will happen to HD if we play them! I doubt HD can hang with top 3 with Districft 10 Still takin SA.
I only bring up Groveton vs. Alto because that's HD's only common opponent. I gave Alto props and said they've improved alot since that Groveton game. Not saying that HD is better than any of those three teams, but I do feel confident that the Bobcats will have a chance if they play a great game. I think in the past, on HD's best night, Alto still would mop the floor with our boys. Coach Finney has these boys committed and ready and along with Coach Huckabay, they know how to win playoff games.
UIL should be ashamed of theirselves for leaving one of yall at home! Yalls district must feel your getting a participation ribbon when you make it to the playoffs!
That's pretty funny. I really hate the way the district is setup too and would like to go back to only two teams making the playoffs. With that said, we don't get to pick the district we're in, all we can do is win it and get ready for playoffs and try to stay healthy along the way.

West Hardin @ Colmesneil/Iola @ HD Predictions and Opinions
The kid from HD is a stud, there's no doubting that. But HD just seems too one-dimensional. They're definitely the front-runner to win the district right now, though. But watch Colmesneil. They're the only team in the district that can mix it up effectively on offense. They have a nice 1-2 punch with their tailbacks and they have one dominant receiver and two other guys that aren't slouches either. And their TE is pretty good too. And like I said, Colmesneil's QB is hands down the best in the district and an MVP candidate. Don't sleep on this team, they're legitimate contenders and I believe you will all see that on Friday night.
I can agree and respect that. Colmesneil will not be overlooked by any means. They have gotten better throughout the season and this is almost their whole entire team from last year. I think HD will win district, but Colmesneil and Iola are both better this year than expected. -

A good game against Alto is nothing to hang their heads about. The district championship is not out of reach for the Tigers. I thought early on that this district could easily end up a three way tie between SA, WS, and Alto. I'm pulling for West Sabine, an old district rival of HD. I see it: West Sabine - 36 San Augustine - 29
Have you seen Sa? What makes you think that sa will lose at home? So you think that sa will lose to Ws but beat alto? Smh...just stick to hd...they arent even on the same level. Never have...never will be.
You're right, I haven't seen San Augustine. They may be way better than I think, and I do think they are a very good team. They beat Deweyville who handed HD a butt whippin. I think that West Sabine could have easily beat Alto and it wasn't like it was a blowout and not close. I think all three teams have their weaknesses and all three can be beat. SA may whip up on the Tigers and Yellowjackets for all I know, but my opinion is that San Augustine is over-rated and the third best team in that district. Not that that is a bad thing, considering all three of those teams are top 15 in the state in my opinion. I honestly hope San Augustine beats West Sabine and then loses to Alto so we get the Wolves in the playoffs. Anyone who thinks this is the same ole' Hull-Daisetta from years past that will lose in the first round by 40 is sadly mistaken. Ask Lovelady, Normangee, or Groveton how physical HD is, and they weren't even playing up to their full potential in those games. You guys from district 10 will be in for a heck of a suprise when you face HD. Good luck to both teams friday night and Go Tigers!!
Imagine that butt whooping by Deweyville x 2. You dont want SA... Tell me this...why would I wanna ask either of those teams how HD is? None of those teams are very good.....for crying out loud...Groveton got beat by SHELBYVILLE!!!
You sound like you should be smart enough to know that it's all about matchups. Don't be crying outloud about Groveton who got beat by Shelbyville. HD held Groveton to 131 total yards and one offensive touchdown. (Heck, they only crossed midfield one other time) That was one week after that same Groveton team dropped 40 points on Alto, beating them by 20 points. Alto has improved since then, and so has HD. San Augustine lost to 4-3 Garrison. The same Bulldog team that Teneha beat by 2 TD's. It's all about matchups and that's why they play the games. I promise you that no 1A school is just going to roll over HD this season (or next for that matter). Our losses have been against 2A schools and Kountze and Deweyville are a combined 10-4 this season. I wouldn't be surprised if SA loses to Alto and WS. None of our kids are scared of San Augustine. Until last year when San Augustine was crushed in the first round of the playoffs, they're record for the previous 5 years was a whopping 13-37. Four out of those five years they won 3 games or less.(And before you have to check, HD was down and still posted a 32-23 record with 5 playoff appearances) That doesn't put the Wolves on another level and is not much to be affraid of.... and no, 7 on 7 doesn't count. News Alert.... SAN AUGUSTINE is not unbeatable. Bring it on if you can get into the playoffs.....HD is ready and waiting.
The way I look at it, HD will have a tough draw regardless of who they get out of 10A-DI and we will be ready for whoever it is. Don't expect anyone to give HD credit and we know we're not intimidating anyone for that district. Respect isn't given away, it must be earned and that's what HD plans on doing. West Sabine is gonna give SA all they want and more, I promise you that.
