My guess is he was telling them the kind of shot that was allowed based on the time left on the clock..just a guess. But yeah, he has no reason to be coaching them or whatever he was doing at that moment of the game. -
No they don't...many people don't get how good Silsbee is...agreeing with you. And the rest of his post clearly shows he thinks Silsbee is primed for another run at the State Tourney. Be nice to see another State Championship come to SE Texas this year.

Nice win for the Horns. -
Sometimes when you are a true team, you just don't have the individual stats that a lot of these awards are geared around. I think all in this area know who owned the gridiron this year on both sides of the ball.

I suppose they don't include the MVPs in those list. All of the MVP will likely be Mustangs..KJ!!

12/16 - 4A #2 ☆SILSBEE☆ AT CLEVELAND
Hupernikomen replied to Who That's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Cleveland has used the Beaumont Chapter for some time, I think.. If so, maybe they wont be quite the homers they typically are in Cleveland with Silsbee being familiar to the refs. It is a rough place to play. -
Not in favor of merit pay of any form for teachers or for coaches. Am in favor of raising their salaries instead so it counts toward their retirement. If a coach is doing a good job, give him a raise. It is that simple. Same thing is true of a teacher.

Thanks for posting the video. Sweetwater is impressive. They look like they are well fed and strong kids. The team speed is above average but no where near WO-S's speed. The sweetwater qb has very nice accuracy. The offensive scheme for them is really nice. They give you a ton of looks and will be tough to game plan. What I saw that doesn't bode well for sweetwater is the amount of pressure that Gilmer put on the qb, and that WO-S secondary is night and day better than Gilmer's. This means Sweetwater will be running a ton of bubble screen and gimmicky plays. Probably score a couple touchdowns simple because they do what they do so well. Defensively they play their assignments very well but they will have no luck containing the athletes of WOS. WO-S has a way of making very good teams look average. I don't see that changing this week.

And yet many school district do have incentive pay that does pay english teachers bonuses when their kids pass the STAAR test. It is called merit pay and the State has been pushing the idea for quite sometime now. Not that I am a fan of the program, I think it is a flawed idea.

Division 1 players don't grow on trees. Refugio, Wylie, Aledo, Carthage, Sweetwater are small compared to the rest of those teams. Any year Refugio has 2 Div. 1 players is a big deal. As far Lake Travis, Highland Park, Woodlands and Desoto those taxpayers wanted those facilities and paid for them. I wouldn't want their property tax bill for sure. Of course money affects wins. They wouldn't have a lot of those players if not for the money. The area and therefore the facilities in that area attract families... People still do have a choice of where to live. Money alone is not the answer to building a winning program, but it sure doesn't hurt. Plenty of towns get it done with far less than those you listed.

Let's make sure they all make the same amount of money and have the same playbooks while we are at it. *sarcasm* These guys put in unreal hours. Most districts have stipends up to a healthy level for the extracduties. The idea of a bonus is not the best idea. If they do good, give them a raise. As far as teaching classes are concerned, if you want the best coaches you better be ready to compete for them, which means not only pay, but allowing coordinators to have some favorable teaching loads--or no load at all. Texas high school football is one of the very few things that actually generate substantial income for some districts outside of the normal funding. This will not happen in many places if you aren't winning. So a few perks are in order to keep the program healthy.

West Orange Stark vs Navarro State Semifinal
Hupernikomen replied to tennisbc's topic in High School Football
Liberty Hill ran the Slot T to perfection. They were far and away the best team I have ever seen run this offense. If Navarro really runs this offense the right way they could give WO-S a decent game. But you just can't stop this WO-S offense. I have been watching WO-S for 30 years now. This is their best offense yet. Too many weapons. Very much like Gilmer and Navasota of the last few years. The defense is outstanding for sure. Not sure I would say it was the best they have had in the years I have watched them. I would rank this one 3rd behind 1987 and 2012. I have to say that this offense is not as vertical as some of the awesome Gilmer or Navasota offensives, but it sure is fun to watch and see who breaks the next 50 plus yard toss and run or blast up the middle. I have to say all 3 of these great teams' offenses are pretty much out of the same mold..it doesn't matter if it is 3 and 30 there is no guarantee you can make them punt. IMO, third best defense ever and best offense ever..yeah I think this is the best overall team I have seen at WO-S. (I just hope it is Gilmer and WO-S in the finals..that will be a great game and I know WO-S is wanting some revenge!) -
You can zero on just about any rural area in the state and find just a couple powerhouses. Those fast growing areas have sheer numbers. These rural areas aren't growing and as a matter of fact a lot of the population continues to the houston, dallas, san antonio metro areas. A lot of it also depends on what you call SE Texas. If it is just Orange, Jefferson, and Hardin county then you aren't looking at too many school. Orange county has 5, Jefferson 8, and Hardin 8. With there being over 1000 high schools the odds of winning just one per year is pretty low. Harris county has 104 high schools by itself. Throw in Jasper, Newton, Polk, Tyler, Chambers county and we still have less school than just the metro of houston. It is not coincidence that a lot of these new schools are doing so well. These places are attracting families, good coaches and athletes with their top notch facilities and high school programs.

DALLARDSVILLE BIG SANDY TOURNAMENT/POST UPDATES HERE!
Hupernikomen replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Kountze will be fine. I think huffman will give hj a real run for their money this year. Congrats to Coach Scharer and the Horns on a big win too -
Giddings is talented as you would expect for a team this deep in the playoffs. They look like a team that should be able to throw the ball more than they do, but just don't seem to get it done. WO-S will give up some yards here and there against them, but I don't see WO-S having to punt much in this game. 52-7 is my prediction for the easy Stangs win.
