  1. The offense appeared to be double tight double wing. Good offense when executed for sure.
  2. What a bunch of baloney to think Liberty played not to get blowed out. Those kids played their hearts out to win this game. The played the same running offense they have played all year with a wrinkle or two. Just like most teams do from week to week to give the opponents a new look. They played the only offense that gave the even a remote chance to win the game..ground and pound. Use your strengths (size) and keep the ball out of the explosive hands of WO-S. Was a great game plan by the coaches and they deserve credit not criticism for playing not too lose too bad. As far as the RB he was ganged talked by all 11 players. He head the ground pretty hard as he went under the horde. Was a good play by WO-S, but honestly the other back was having a better night anyways.
  3. Why do you comment on things you have no knowledge of? Liberty did not sacrifice one game for the next. HJ caught Liberty playing out of their normal routine, which is what they did tonight..pound the ball down the field. Instead, Liberty tried to air it out and paid for it. This was a return to what they do best. And it was a decent showing against a superior team. How about just giving a little props and stop trying to over-analyze things?
  4. Liberty is not far removed from a near 15 year playoff streak. They haven't always had the best luck in the playoffs but they have enough talent to begin to establish themselves in this area again, and appear to be doing so.
  5. Any given Friday...a long list of unbeatable teams have fallen on these Fridays. Most of them beaten by "inferior" teams. I have been watching Liberty for many years and WO-S for even longer. This the best either of them have been in my recent memory. That says volumes for WO-S, but not as much for Liberty as their fortunes haven't fared as well within the last several years. This group however is a very talented group for Liberty. I think a 42-12 score is a reasonable score, but wouldn't be surprised to see WO-S dismantle them like all the rest they have faced so far.
  6. Liberty will beat HF by 30+ unless HF has drastically improved from the beginning of the season.
  7. Liberty is very physical and offensively talented. They are a team playing with some swagger. Haven't seen Orangefield, but is likely a 2 or 3 TD win for Liberty based on year's results.
  8. Best Liberty team I have seen in quite a few years. Congrats to coach Taylor and staff. Played a heck of a game on both sides of the ball. Horns will regroup and be ready next week. Still had several important players out, and got banged up pretty good tonight too.
  9. Pretty obvious he sent a message of some type. Not normal for WO-S to do this in my recollection.
  10. Man what did Silsbee do to tick off Thompson?
  11. Basically, a chop block below the waist outside of tackles. I am sure there is more to it than that, but that is the gist.
  12. This game was tough to watch. I have no idea how many yards in penalties we had, but I know of at least six 15 yard penalties. Five chop blocks (4 were Jasper's), 2 or 3 horse collars, and mix in a couple other personal fouls--that was just Jasper's, Silsbee had a few also. There were numerous holdings, off-sides, illegal man down field, false start, etc. Both teams have a lot of work left to get their offenses clicking...who knows what the score would have been without 30 something penalties. Have to clean that up big time. Please teach your offensive linemen what a chop block is..that was ridiculous. Jasper has way too many weapons to be shutout for the last 3 quarters. Jasper running the double wing and single wing?? Guess we are trying to be Newton now. Jasper defense needs lots of work. LBs and safeties have got to step up against the run or this will be a one and done kind of year. Lots of work to do. Jasper does get much better as the season progresses and they sure need to our it will be an early exit from the playoffs. Might I suggest that we run a few plays where we try and get our speed isolated on the outside of the tackle? A toss sweep? The fake dive and pitch out? Something..anything to give your speed a chance to do its things. That kid was untouchable in the open field. Congrats to Silsbee. That had to feel good to be down 19-0 after 1 quarter and battle back for the win. Those kids deserved that big win. Hope it propels you guys to a fine season.
  13. Jasper's rb has some speeeeed. Dogs just taking it to Silsbee. Silsbee clearly has some weapons so this is far from over.
  14. Seems like Tatum did the same thing one year, maybe they had 1 win going into district and then went on to win State.
  15. The biggest question here to me is can BC even slow down WO-S? If they can the score might be a respectable 28-7. Otherwise it will be another long time for the team lining up against the chaingang.. I do predict that BC gets on the board this week though.
  16. Whats your biggest surprise of this week? WO-S and Lumberton had blowouts, but no real surprise. Westbrook murdered Ozen but that was expected. Dayton squeezed past Nederland to put the Dogs at 0-2 is a bit surprising (not near as surprising as Navasota being 0-2..thinking that school board might be taking some heat over the coaching debacle). Any time North Short loses is a surprise to me. Barbers Hill with two blow outs to start the year reminds of the old days when they would go 10-0..and bomb out of the playoffs (sorry Jody, but you know it is true), Is everyone still convinced BH can't make the playoffs, or have they begin to change some minds? Bridge City going 2-0 has them surprising a few folks, will they make a game out of the annual battle with WO-S--doubtful. Now to my biggest surprises.. #5 Beckville 77-67 over West Sabine. What a shoot out. Would have loved to have witnessed this track meet. #4 Newton 49 Silsbee 33 Not really a huge surprise, but still hoping the Tigers can turn the corner on this season. I bet they do. #3 Woodville 28-14 over Madisonville. I know Madisonville has been down some the last two years, but just saying Woodville over CC last week felt weird and now add Madisonville to that really is surprising to me. The Eagles might have a special team up there in Tyler County. #2 Tarkington beating EC really surprised a lot of people when comparing last weeks scores to this matchup. Tarkington continues to seek to change opinions after two successful season that led to playoff appearance (who can forget that awesome win over Mexia?) Proud for the Horns and hope this gets the ball rolling for them. #1 Shepherd 37-33 over Coldspring. A lot has changed for both of these two teams this year. Shepherd graduated a ton of talent and Coldspring is still trying to rebound from a coaching change. Any time that Shepherd beats Coldspring it is a big deal in San Jacinto County. I am not so surprised that they beat them as I think both of these teams are rebuilding, I am surprised at how they beat them. Shepherd was losing 33-7 and roared back to win 37-33. Can you imagine the emotional swings in both sets of fans? Wow, what a comeback.
  17. It is not the oldest Rivalry in Texas but it is one of them. I lived in Marshall for a bit and know that rivalry has over 100 meetings now. Denison and Sherman was who I had heard was the oldest, but am not 100% sure.
  18. From 33 to 7 to 37-33..unreal..especially in this rivalry game. This one will be talked about for a long time.
  19. Really enjoyed this game. EC was undersized compared to the Horns. The athleticism of the two teams was about even. EC seemed to have a bit more speed on the corners but rarely was able to get there as Tarkington had good penetration most of the night. EC had a couple backs that was just has difficult to bring down and Tarkington's were. This was a bruising game with both teams really giving a great effort. Tarkington showed a lot of improvement on both sides of the ball from last week against Splendora. The Horns are loaded with underclassmen and should only continue to improve as those players get more games under their belts. For me the difference this week for Tarkington was the ability to win the line of scrimmage more times than not. Size made the difference.
  20. No doubt Kirbyville is still plenty talented, but Newton shutting out a team of equal size never is a surprise to me. They are just that good. Looks like Kirbyville kept it respectable at least.
  21. Newton shutting out kirbyville isn't that big of a surprise for me. Kirbyville isn't what they were a few years back. Maybe Nederland isn't either. Yeah Woodville beating a traditional power like that was impressive.
  22. There were several this week. Five of them stick out to me. Which one is most surprising to you and why? WO-S 42-0 over Nederland Woodville 55-0 over CC EC 56-0 over Kelly Warren 12-0 over Huntington Orangefield 45-0 over Buna All five of these games tell us quite a bit about what to expect this season. But the WO-S dismantling of Nederland is very startling to me. Sure WO-S has better Nederland through the years, but Nederland has certainly been right up there with the best in the Golden Triangle for many years now. This score really shocks me.

  24. Everyone here has been around Texas athletics long enough to know how this works. There is, and always will be, some gamesmanship in this process. It adds to the intrigue. Bottom line is Jasper think their best chance is in a one game series (as I hear a couple pitchers have been slowed by injuries, and not to mention that is a typical strategy when you feel you have a dominate pitcher), and LCM chose home and home flip. I don't buy the Jasper's coach didn't know they were flipping for home and home as the article states. This isn't either of theirs first rodeo. Sooner or later they will play and I doubt very much if the athletes give a rip where the game takes place. Having said all of that, I do agree that being able to flip for playing on your home field should not be an option in the playoffs, but as long as it is then no one has done anything whatsoever wrong by choosing that option. Good luck Dogs.
  25. Ignore the troll. Great season again for the Lady Eagles and Coach Mixon. Hopefully next year will be even better. (Seriously give us a button to ignore trolls or something)
