I would think most coaches care more about getting at least 3 quality games in a tourney than anything else.  One tourney this year gave teams 2 games.  That is of greater concern than anything else.  BH doesn't set it up to give everyone the extra game instead of themselves, but I promise you most coaches would be ticked if they got the bye and everyone else got the extra game.

Thats gonna put some holes in a few peoples theories  :o [/quote] rats UK you sure enough almost nailed it, i just knew with a 14 pt. lead early in the 4th i was gonna look like such a not big idiot for calling for a 12+ pt. victory, but the horns just kept on running and sure enough by the roughly minute mark the trojans were within a bucket of the go ahead...scary. they earned this one it wasn't just a fluke, they kept their heads on and made some clutch free throws and basically just played their butts off, the team work looked good and they were much smarter with the ball to stay undefeated in their house. that will be contested mightly when their neighbors come to visit next week, but who knows, play smart and hard and catch a break or two....heck ya never know. who won shep/splen anyway? [/quote] Anything can happen.  Cleveland is extremely good this year.  Horns need to make sure they win the rest regardless of what happens with Cleveland.  Nothing to lose against the Indians so might as well have fun.

Every season always has a gut check time.  Perhaps ours was in the massacre against Cleveland.  It is easy to lose one's confidence after such a beatdown.  I would hope that after seeing Coldspring do no better our boys realized that Cleveland is in another category altogether.  I feel like after this unexpected lose to Huffman now is the time to see if these young men can realize that it is never too late to give ones best and put the team before the individual.  Don't listen to the grumbling from the stands.  A team will never accomplish anything trying to serve two masters.  Have confidence in what your are trying to do and execute!

Perhaps Jasper's coach decided to play someone else?  Not like they have been shying away from competition.  A lot of place around the state where schools next door to each other don't play because of difference in classification.  Typically it isn't beneficial to the bigger schools program when they lose.  Kirbyville is good enough as Newton is year in and year out to beat Jasper.  I personally feel like Jasper needs a moderately good team or two on the schedule instead of the murder's row like they had this last year.

[/quote] and there is no coach letting every kid on the team play 2 quarters in high school either.  many of the best teams in the area have a 3 or 4 minute rotation system.  you don't find people in evadale, hj, kountze, yates etc. where I have seen this type of system complain.  typically as the game winds down your best players will be on the court hopefully with fresher legs and fewer fouls.  not a little league mentality at all, but rather a system that has several state championship trophies to show for it in our area.  takes a while for a system like this to establish itself in a program but it certainly can work.  has to start at the early groups for sure.

I almost took the bait and editorialized on the uninformed comments you make but the forums is no place for that, some of the kids read this stuff... Cleveland is good, very good, and they deserve credit for that, but not 62 points better than Tarkington from a pure talent standpoint. From all the comments made on here to the tune of "well, it was Tarkington after all" one would think some people believe Tarkington is some place where all the athletic rejects go. Do you think "our" kids are genetically inferior? That the water or nutrition in Tarkington is poor? That they should be satisfied with "going" to the playoffs and if they get drummed by the likes of Silsbee, Hj or whoever then thats good enough? What do you think the REAL difference is? You may want to do some thinking on that before you start taking mischaracterizing pot shots at "the fans" for being frustrated. BTW, little league basketball starts in Tarkington later today. The bottom line is support your team, coaches and players.  This group seems to be a pretty good one that is made of up of some really good kids.  Hate to see we got beat so badly, but I learn from an ex-Tarkington coach long ago that trying to run with Cleveland is a good way to get by 60 points, and he was right.

[/quote] 177 points in basketball is no where near equivalent to 20 runs in baseball.  People get beat by 20 runs in baseball quite often.  This would be more like a 50 run beat down in baseball. That is most points ever in basketball for a high school team and I suppose the most lopsided victory as well. Seems quite obvious that some people would think it classless since it is the most humiliating defeat of all time.  I would say the fight that broke out showed that the other team felt quite demoralized.  I think sportsmanship is an important lesson to teach young men in any sport.
