1. several dropped passes when we did throw it.  but i agree we need to open up the offense.
2.
Congrats to the WHOLE SHEPHERD TEAM for winning the game! Took more than a few players there jdb, what a great TEAM effort. Who does Shepherd play next? Are they in the playoffs or do they have to win the next 2 games?
Scenarios 1.  Shepherd beats Huffman and they are in. 2.  Huffman beats Shepherd and Tarkington and they are in if Liberty loses to either Tarkington or Coldspring. 3.  Huffman beats Shepherd and loses to Tarkington Shepherd is in. 4.  Huffman beats Shepherd and Tarkington and Liberty beats Tarkington and Coldspring would be a 3 way tie between Huffman, Shepherd and Liberty. 1 or 2 are most likely scenarios so basically Shepherd really needs to beat Huffman.
3.
Wow I can't believe Jasper got beat! Carthage must be great...
They looked good offensively and great defensively.  They certainly look better offensively than Jasper does.  The defense were fairly equal IMO.  Carthage scored on a last second play in the first half on a blown coverage (well designed play that had Jasper rotating over to cover trips and leaving the other side open for a crossing TE), a trick play, and desperation 4th and forever bomb before tacking on a meaningless TD. Jasper's defense played very well but had fits trying to cover the TE.  Carthage is very well coached and made several very good play calls to exploit Jasper's weaknesses.   I haven't seen many teams like Jasper that will man up the wideouts and not have a safety or two to back up the corners.  I don't know if they were having a safety try and spy the TE or what but it was a weird looking defensive scheme. The trick play Carthage ran was impressive.  They put a small back squatting down behind the right guard right out of a quick bunched up huddle and snapped it and everyone moved right and the qb gave it to the squatting back who took off left for a nice TD.  The 4th down bomb for a TD was an amazing play by the QB.  He was being pursued all night but Jasper just couldn't put a helmet on him.  On this play he scrambled and threw a 40+ yard laser to the endzone into coverage for the score.  It was a "wow" moment. I really thought Jasper had the speed to get around the corner but kept running the ball into the teeth of the Carthage defense the whole night.  There was absolutely nothing there.  The option gave them too long to pursue the ball.  We need to runs some sweeps and a reverse or two wouldn't have hurt.  It certainly gave the Dogs somethings to work on.  Carthage hasn't won 24 or 25 in a row for nothing though.
4. I think HJ will match up with them just fine.  If Silsbee thinks it will be a cake walk then they are sadly mistaken.
5. New format no 5A included.  Only 19-4A and 20-4A and only the top 8 to show who will make the playoffs. 1.  PNG        Continues to show dominance.  I wouldn't want to play the Purple come Week 11. 2.  Central    Lit up the scoreboard against Ozen.  Hoping to quiet the war dance. 3.  Crosby    Squeaked by BH.  Still riding the wave of the Bronco busting. 4.  Dayton   Starting to find their offense again??  Wonders if they will have it ready for the Triangle offering. 5.  Vidor      One more win should guarantee them a spot in playoffs.  Dangerous first round opponent for somebody. 6.  GCM      Won a shootout with CE King.   7.  BH         Turnovers cost them game at Crosby.  Young guns are improving week by week.  Rematch with PNG looks imminent. 8.  Ozen     One more win should guarantee them a spot in playoffs unless some big upsets take place.  Is the program starting to find its feet? 3A and Under (Relative Strength poll, not ranked based on head to head predicted outcome) 1.  Newton (top 10 2A)  Another yawner.  Wildcats are lurking. 2.  Kirbyville (top 15 2A) Lost to two powerful 3A teams.  Good have easily won both games (probably should have).  Very little talk about the Wildcats going on. 3.  Evadale (top 25 1A)  Every week it is the same story wins but not convincingly.  Is the top 20 1A overstated?? (I dropped them to 25)  I think Colmesneil takes them out. 4.  Jasper (top 25 3A)  Took one on the chin.  Huge last 2 weeks against playoff contenders Center and Rusk. 5.  Silsbee    (top 30 3A)  District title theirs to take.  Sweep Orange County.  Not much left on the schedule. 6.  WO-S   (top 30 3A)  WO-S tinkering with the offense.  Sounds like the right thing to do. 7.  Cleveland (top 30 3A) Coldspring game should be a dandy. 8. Coldspring   (top 40 3A) Would have said rang Splendora's bell but Tarkington now has it. 9.  East Chambers (top 40 2A)  Coaches got to watch a neighboring district play while the team was idle.  This team is the surprise team of the area IMO.  Weren't suppose to be                                             this good. 10. Anahuac  (top 40 2A)  Easy win. Honorable Mention:  New Waverly, Corrigan Cadmen Worth noting that the Shelbyville win over San Augustine will not sit well with the locals from S.A. Haven't followed this series last few years but I wonder when the last time that has happened?
6. Somebody surely had a perfect week this week.  Easy picks for the most part.  BH let me down and I missed just the 1 game.
7. Jasper couldn't find any offense against a good Carthage team.  Carthage had to use desperation and trickery to score on the first 3 of their TDs, and Jasper was fortunate to cause several turnovers.  All in all both defenses looked good.  Carthage has a nice mix on offense with a good qb, rb and several good receivers.  The interior of their defense was very solid.
8.
My outlook says it won't be good. But I will say this....if the Raiders don't make the playoff, there will be at least 1 maybe 2 teams going that won't last long....catch my drift.  The better team sometimes doesn't always win. But it is what it is.
Back in the day when one team made the playoff there always were hard luck cases that missed out on the playoffs, but with 4 teams going it is hard to feel sorry for a team that misses out and equally difficult to accept that a worthy team was left out of the playoffs. Lumberton still can show that they have what it takes.
9.
also gilbert moya from jasper quaterback took them to the title great athlete
If he had stayed perhaps he would have made the list.  He certainly had an impact the 2 season he played for the Dogs.
10. Not trying to be sarcastic here, but I think that has something to do with "special needs" students. Liberty used to claim a lot more than they actually had so they could keep their enrollment numbers down. I am guessing you might get more money for a "special needs" student too. I may be WAY WRONG here, but that is what I was told. in that case, there are probably a lot of half students making up that number in l-town. they just happened to have an odd number of them. ;D Not a PEIMS expert but very few students are actually counted as .5 It has to do with where they attend school and what district they are in. Example: Student is a special needs student who lives in District A and attends District B (because District B provides services that District A pays District B to provide). The student would count as .5 for each district. At least that is my understanding.
11. West Brook Carthage GP North Shore Barbers Hill Datyton Central Vidor Nederland PNG Diboll Hardin Jefferson Silsbee WOS Newton Kirbyville Buna Anahuac Hardin High Island Evadale Picking a few upsets.
12. Now that's leadership And how do you know that the 7th member isn't related to the student or have some other conflict of interest to where they shouldn't vote?
13. Kirbyville should win easily but Woodville has some talent. Kirbyville 42-14
14. Exactly. People shouldn't believe every rumor they hear.
15. Your subject asked about school's authority but then your post said school board. The answers to both of those is vastly different. Schools have huge responsibilities and rights to discipline a child as they see fit as long as it is spelled out in the code of conduct. More and more the legislature is treading on local district turf by mandating discipline procedures. (e.g. mandatory expulsions in certain circumstances, maximum length of punishment in some cases, requirement to consider intent etc.) Most of these mandates have been in reason to outrageous actions by individual schools. Some mandates probably because a legislatures family member was affected. Schools board hope to stay above the fray when it comes to discipline. The only reason they will get involved is if it is part of a due process hearing.
16. Jasper has the defense to win. I just wonder if they have the offense to score enough points to keep up. I think they will hold Carthage to around 21-28 points. I think they can score 14 but will need some big plays on defense or special teams to do much more damage than that. Being a Jasper fan I will pick them to win 24-21 since it is in the Dawg House.
17. You get a cheap thrill of bringing that to their attention?
18. Like she said its not based on head to head but actually I do think ec is better than hj at this point. EC is far better than when we played you'll. I know its not based on head to head as i said, but i was just curious.. I will give EC credit and say that they have come along great and have a very good team... But so has HJ.. That was a good game between HJ and EC.. HJ just barely managed to get the win.. I look for both teams to do great things.. Best of luck to both with the rest of district (and hopefully playoffs for BOTH)... Another curiosity question here Bucof2010... If HJ and EC were to play again.. say next friday.. what you think? I'd definately say another close one with either team being able to pull out a win depending on who wanted it more and executed better... It is based on where they are ranked in their classification. I think EC is higher ranked in 2A than HJ is ranked in 3A. It is solely my opinion as I didn't get the rankings from any source. I know it is a hard thing to wrap one's brain around but it really has nothing to do with head to head competition. Although losing to HJ didn't do anything but hurt EC's overall ranking; however, since then they have bounced back and won. HJ is probably top 50-60 in 3A IMO. The Orangefield win was very impressive.
19. I agree that Evadale can't compete with 3A teams. My poll just recognizes them based on their ranking within their respective classifications.
20. New format no 5A included. Only 19-4A and 20-4A and only the top 8 to show who will make the playoffs. 1. PNG Have earned due respect and are the favorite to win the district. 2. Central 3. Crosby 4. Dayton After seeing Dayton last night, I can see how the lost to Crosby. At what point did the qb get hurt in the Crosby game? 5. Vidor 6. GCM No absolutely nothing about this team but appear to be headed to the playoffs. 7. BH Banged up and gave Dayton a great game in Dayton. If offensive coordinator would open up the offense before they got down by 3 TDs they might actually be hard to beat. 8. Ozen Nobody giving them any credit this year, but the win over Lumberton puts them into playoffs IMO. 3A and Under (Relative Strength poll, not ranked based on head to head predicted outcome) 1. Newton (top 10 2A) Has to beware of Kirbyville. Nobody is talking about Kirbyville. 2. Kirbyville (top 15 2A) Easy win against Hemphill. 3. Jasper (top 15 3A) Showed mercy against Huntington. 4. Evadale (top 20 1A) Still winning, but not in convincing fashion. Beginning to think Colmesneil is a candidate to upset the Rebels. 5. Silsbee (top 30 3A) Beat BC. I had predicted BC pull the upset. 6. WO-S (top 30 3A) HF came at a good time for WO-S. 60 point shutout is good for what ails you. 7. Cleveland (top 30 3A) Taking care of business week after week. 8. Coldspring (top 40 3A) Cleveland game measuring up to be a close contest. 9. East Chambers (top 40 2A) Back at the top of the district where they are used to being. 10. Anahuac (top 40 2A) Came up short against EC Honorable Mention: New Waverly, Hardin Jefferson, Corrigan Cadmen
21. Good weather helps a pass happy team. Big game coming against Buna. When is that game?
22. Congrats to the horns. Beating the Wildcats is a season within a season.
23. 3A Tarkington #11
24. PNG Anahuac West Brook PA Memorial Dayton Central Livingston Lumberton Diboll Jasper Bridge City WOS Orangefield Kirbyville Newton Woodville Deweyville Hardin Evadale West Hardin
25. The solution is pretty simple. I won't even bother doing 4A/5A. Kinda meaningless to rank them anyways with it being mainly one district and two 5A schools.
