  1. Both of these teams have enjoyed trips to Round Rock in the past.
  2. The state tourney should be 2 out o 3 as well. One year I wish the sprint relay would have been best 2 out of 3 because had it been Jasper would have won the state throphy in track instead of Atlanta. All we had to do was place about 3rd and we had a horrible race, dropped the stick, bobbled it or something. Had the best time in the state going into the race too.
  3. i understand what you are saying and agree, but you still have to have depth to win that 2nd game ;D well the dogs have the same two pitchers who won it last year this year. I just hope they get there. If they do you figure JP would throw game 1 again, and then if they make the finals I guess anything can happen. Probably be the other teams #2 pitcher. That is the thing people don't mention about the state tourney. The team with the depth does win. It just like in 2 out of 3 because you can't throw your ace both games. People can't risk not throwing their ace in the semis.
  4. I respect your opinion. BC 2 and 3 are probably better pitchers at this point than Jaspers with Stephenson not to his last year's form. Don't know if Yates has ever thrown against BC but he looked plenty good against Bellville.
  5. "First came the coin flip to force a one-game playoff and then came Friday's 5-1 victory in Nederland in the Class 3A Region III regional quarterfinals. Jasper (26-6) wanted no part of Bridge City's (26-7) pitching depth and settled to a winner take all and it was the right call as Justin Parsons outlasted Matt Hicks to send the defending state champions into the regional semi-finals against either Hutto or Carthage." He he. Nice jab there. I don't think Mixon was as worried about BC depth so much as he worried about his lack thereof. He hadn't beaten Hicks in 2 tries this year, and so thinking he could the 3rd time with Parson on the mound showed a lot of confidence in his teams ability with his best against their best.
  6. Surely it was not an intentional intentional walk. Nobody in his right mind walks anybody to pitch to Bronson. On the other hand, I hope it catches on with future opponents. It wasn't on purpose. If I had to guess I think Jackson had instructions to put Bronson on base if Jasper had runners on the bases. I think he simply got confused and thought Bronson was next in the batting order. Mr. Bryant was extremely upset.
  7. Was a very entertaining game to watch. I have to say that Hicks is one of the best HS players I have seen. He is just outstanding in every phase of the game. Parson pitched a terrific game. Outside of Hicks two rips he kept BC off balance. Umps strike zone was a little of the low side, but it was consistent. Mixon did exactly what I hoped he would do...but Jackson on base every chance he got with the intentional walk (he did it 3 times in a row). Malcolm absolutely crushed the ball for a HR. Jasper went the other way for several hits that were Texas leaguers..good hitting. Defense was fine for both teams. Two best plays were both by BC. Hicks play one squeeze was very good, and the 2nd baseman made a fine play to end an inning also. Only thing wrong with this series was that we only got to watch them play 1 time this year instead of 3 times. Best of luck to BC next year and sure hope we get to see these two meet up again in the playoffs then.
  8. I agree I think this was Jasper's best shot at prevailing. Jasper's pitching just isn't quite as good as I thought it would be at this point, but they are solid defensively and at the plate so I think this gives them the best chance to prevail. I think that had this been HJ they would have gone for a 3 game series. BC seems to be quite a bit deeper on the mound this year than anyone else in the district.
  9. Where is Fayetteville?
  10. Jody my friend. What is the deal with the hill? Sounds like the wheels just fell off this game. Now this isn't football so I know yall can hang with these cats
  11. Yates doesn't seem to have pitched a whole lot lately. He should be ready.
  12. I have seen it work. And usually at the end the game for some reason.
  13. Ok. I said it would be a close game, and it was for several innings. Tarkington booted the ball around and Jasper never looked back. I know most all the posters from Tarkington personally, and I don't recall a single one of them claiming anything on this thread about it being a close game. Indeed some have expressed that certain of Jasper fans make it hard to wish them well because of their boastfulness and continually tongue in cheek statements. Can't say I blame them. Sure others said it might be close, but why not Jasper hasn't exactly had a stellar year. There is a lot of baseball left to see if 21-3A is as stout as many on here think they are. Tarkington had a fine season and should be congratulated. I know of several Tarkington people who sat among the Jasper fans last year in watching the Dogs win it all. Most people will cheer on those in their region unless given a reason not to, let's not do that Jasper fans.
  14. This could get carried away...
  15. For those going to the game who didn't go there last year, the baseball field is all the way to the left of the school and then to the very back of the complex. Just follow the road all the way back there. If is quite a ways behind the school.
  16. That does not surprise me. What is the story line on Tarkington? I presume they must have ONE very good pitcher? Is so, maybe they did not pitch him against Kingwood Saturday? Hup, where are you? I know you could give us a good scouting report. They have a good ace yes. I haven't seen Tarkington or Jasper this year so I am not one who can give a scouting report, but I bet it is a tight game.
  17. They better keep progressing 4A is staring them straight in the face.
  18. Stephenson and Parson got it done last year at Austin. If they both are on form Jasper should be fine in a 3 game series. Yates and the Sophomore should be able to pitch if a series goes to 3.
  19. Although '07 Jasper wasn't the best team ever...it was the best Jasper club I have seen and it manhandled the 06 State Champs LE.
  20. Yes they did, but it would depend on district rules. Most always have head to head as first tie-break, but not all do. I could be mistaken though.
  21. And if Jasper loses and Silsbee wins they are tied for 3rd. Does 21-3A have first tie-breaker as head to head as most do?
  22. Does that lock up a spot? I know that Jasper could lose and Silsbee and records be tied again. I would assume head to head would take Jasper to playoffs, but each district does its on thing so...
