  1. Yeah I know it means a lot to those kids he profiles. He does write nice articles.
  2. Good list of coaches.
  3. I liked Giddings chances with a healthy Brock, but I don't think they are in the same league as WO-S without him.
  4. Jasper is much improved team. They have a good chance again this week. Bailey sure is fun to watch. Splendora was just killed by the big plays.
  5. What about the weak ones like Jasper? No luck for us?
  6. Thanks Jody..we might need the extra help. I gave you some karma..looks like you needed the help.
  7. I would say WO-S is the clear favorite over the dog's for the foreseeable future. How did Jasper's JV do this year against WO-S?
  8. Cleveland does a very good job of grinding it out and using up the clock. That is what I believe he is talking about. They played a very good Navasota team a close game that way.
  9. Lot of people under estimating Buna. If you have seen them play this year you wouldn't. This a very good team. Newton is the clear favorite, but will have their hands full. Buna will keep it close in the first half and Newton should stretch it out in the 2nd half. But with a couple breaks here and there anything can happen.
  10. They broke it out because they needed the other option for sure. School keeps marching on without turf, but not without adequate space. Worst thing in the world for a district is to lose a bond election for needed facilities because it is attached to "extraneous" projects. Pie in the face and very tough future to pass bonds after that. This give the voters a chance to speak on what they value the most. They chose new buildings and not new turf. If indeed it was only $4 a year more in taxes over the life of the bond I am sure efforts were made to get that information out there. Obviously it didn't work. (Personally I find it very had to believe that $4 per year would pay off a million dollars..either WO-S has 20K citizens on tax roll, or they were trying to finance that thing for 100 years).
  11. Jasper was banged up in the 04 Silsbee game and didn't play their RB until the very end of the game. Not an excuse just fact. Jasper coaches showed they weren't willing to risk injury in that game by not playing him and by going for two at home. It was a very good game and I am glad I saw it. Silsbee had a very talented team with one of the best athlete's I have seen come through Silsbee and came out on top. It isn't like Jasper just got it rolling in the playoffs that year but wasn't as good in the regular season. Both of those teams were very good. Silsbee was knocked out by a talented team for sure. This year is a different story. Silsbee seems to have underperformed expectations and Jasper outperformed (some people's expectations). Probably be a very close game and turnovers playing a major roll in the outcome. Good luck to both teams.
  12. How long does the turf last?
  13. Depends on HF/Kirbyville. HF loses then yes the Silsbee/Jasper winner is in. IF HF and Silsbee win there will be a 3 way tie for 3rd.
  14. Those coaches would know so it probably is a coin flip.
  15. Are you sure the next step is a coin flip? Sometimes they go by district point differential..or so I thought.
  16. Hemphill will be a tough one to beat. They beat CC and that says alot.
  17. I would like to add a 5th game. Woodville vs. Hemphill Both teams have two losses so the winner is in. The other reason that this is a very important game is because it determines whether Newton goes big school or small school If Hemphill wins Newton goes big school and plays Buna in round 1. If Woodville wins they play Buna round one. That would leave Newton playing a small school representative in Buna's district. If Hardin Beats East Chambers then Newton plays Kountze (if Kountze wins next week too). If East Chambers beats Hardin Newton would play Hardin. I would suppose that Buna, Kountze and Hardin will be watching that Woodville/Hemphill game very closely. It could make the difference of 1 and done and perhaps being able to win a couple playoff games.
  18. I don't think Dayton overlooked anyone. I think Lumberton was the better team that night. I think Lumberton was very fortunate to catch Dayton early on in the year. Dayton has progressed a long ways from that Friday night and it showed last night.
  19. That is when I left. Nice hard hitting by both teams. HJ certainly had some athletes but you could tell they had nothing to play for. Reminded me of last year's Jasper/Silsbee game.
  20. Many of those years in a division above their true numbers because they elected to stay in 5A.
  21. I believe if someone else touches it again before he does he is ok. Maybe that is basketball LOL.
  22. With these kids being so close to the same towns it should be a lot of emotion in the games. Probably both be close early on with WO-S pulling away in the second half as they have been doing for last several weeks.
  23. Dayton still has probably the best 2 teams in 22-4A to play. I think WO-S would have a good chance of running the board this year in 22-4A.
  24. I have seen a lot of Jasper teams through the years. If Jasper is a top 20 team then the competition level is way down this year. Jasper is improving from last year, but I don't see them as the 14th ranked team in the State.
