  1. How can you mention Mathews without talking about Shane Dronett?
  2. Also from Jasper that were great I can remember were James Bevil OL (U of H) ? Viator OL (TCU) Chris Hunt RB (don't know if he ever played college ball) Fred Hunt QB (great athlete) I can't remember the RB name right now, but we had one go over 2000 yards in the early 2000's. He probably has the school record. Curtis Hafford LB Best I have ever seen from Jasper. Witherspoon was a better receiver than LB IMO. I am not 100% but I believe Terrance Davis played WR at SFA and later Arena ball.
  3. Sean was a great OL, but he did not choose to play college ball. His brother David was all-state DL for the Bulldogs and all-american DL for SFA. I was speaking with Coach Walkoviak once and he said David was the best Defensive Lineman he had ever Coached. So I vote for Gibby (both of them--not to mention the oldest Jeff who would knock you silly)
  4. You are right WB would gain nothing from playing a tournament with the local 3A and 4A teams. I believe BC and Jasper could give them a solid game with their aces on the mound, but good 5A ball is another level of competition.
  5. I didn't have the privledge of watching Reggie Davis, but from what I have heard he was a great one.
  6. How can someone from WOS think they another team can't win because of no depth? WOS will suit up fewer than anyone else in the district again this year, and with that lack of depth they will do just fine..as will Kirbyville.
  7. Slightly But a good list..don't know the defensive guys but the others are more than solid. DPG not getting much talk, but he will be the work horse for the Stangs this year. He is a very explosive runner who has a real talent for finding the holes and breaking the long one.
  8. Jasper/Newton is a newer rivarly as far as I know. They never played since in all the years I knew of until here lately. Perhaps the resident oldtimer (Jdog) can give us a little flavor of the Jasper/Newton rivarly. As far as Historic rivarly with Jasper it has to be Silsbee.
  9. Sherman/Denison ?? Isn't that the one that is supposed to be the "oldest"?
  10. Yes he was.. Those Isom brothers have did a great job at basketball up at ETBU as well. Gulley was a super football player on both sides of the ball.
  11. Most people on this board didn't get to see Jasper early in the year. They struggled offensively (no they stunk it up). However their defense was very solid. By the time they got to the 3rd game in the district it appeared to me that the program was in shambles. It is a wonder they won any games. Early on in district they played ok against Kirbyville, but after that they didn't do much and started bringing up people right and left. No telling how many players they had quit etc. Someone mentioned that Jasper will have a hard time beating the established district powerhouses. Last time I checked Jasper has won their fair share of district championships through the years. The lightweights better kick them hard while they are down because the Dogs will be biting again real soon.
  12. Man what a hard task. At qb I would have to choose b/t Long, Beasley, Ambres, Brown, Douglas among others. RB would be beast from Newton-Anthony Byerly along Charles, but there are so many other dominate RBs through the years...Murchinson, Hadnot (one from Kirbyville and one from Jasper) Sumrall or Mosely the list could go on. Be nice to see a list of All-State and All-Americans from the area through the years.
  13. That be no sir to you. J_Dog has trained hands in addition to being a rabble rouser..very dangerous indeed.
  14. 3 good ones. I would add Parsons and Hicks.
  15. You probably made him choke on his EGGO when he read that too.
  16. Nah he is just a rabble rouser
  17. Is their David Whitmore related to the SFA David Whitmore?
  18. How do you know what the coach did or didn't do? I would imagine that there will be plenty of scouts at that all star game.
  19. There are as many as 5 teams that depending on the run of athletes coming through at the time can be very good teams. Newton and CC are perennial powers. Hemphill is always tough and Woodville is salty since dropping to 2A. I would love to see the Dragons do well.
  20. Been a long while since Jasper missed the playoffs 2 years in a row. Probably since before there were 3 teams making it to the playoffs. I think they make it.
  21. I agree that 04 team was very good. and I also agree that all of those teams you mentioned were absolute top notch. last year's BC and la grange from 04 are the best 2 teams I have seen with my own eyes in 3A. I do think this years Jasper team would give either of those teams a great series in 2 out of 3.
  22. I am not going to lie. I was so glad when I saw they were in your side of the bracket.
  23. Congrats Stringer that is awesome!!
  24. Much better outfielder? Man he was a terrific SS as a sophmore. He is just good wherever he is on the field. General in the outfield or at SS..just depends on what pieces Mixon has to put elsewhere as to where Hart plays.
  25. Yes it was very satisfying to watch if you were a dog fan. Those game were full of things to cheer about and very little suspense outside of whether we could 10 run rule or not.
