I think Newton is considerably down this year from last year. Probably still a solid 3 round playoff team if it falls just right, but I think Tatum would rip them to shreds this year. Just my opinion!

I'd say the Horns covered the spread in this one. 378 yards passing..that is probably a school record. I can't ever remember the Longhorns having that many yards passing. Sounds like Brooks was tossing the ball well tonight. Great win..especially considering that Woodville handled Shepherd and Splendora already. Woodville lost a close one to Coldspring. And with Cleveland down this year again, I would think this is a real shot in the arm for the horns going into district.

I believe his grandmother has returned to Jasper..perhaps he is going to finish out the football season and then move to be with her. I think that is who has been raising him, but I certainly could be wrong on this.

Not going to repeat my blurb from the downlow. just give congrats to the Kats for a good win, and ask how their qb is doing? He was slammed to the turf in an awkward position. Hope he is ok. He is a very good player. That fade route to that tall receiver is a nice weapon.

JV guys can play tonight and then set out 3 weeks. Varisty starts their 3 weeks this week. I believe if they play on JV tonight it will cause them to miss 4 varsity games instead of 3. To put them on JV because of no pass no play and then back on varisty at the end of the varsity no pass no play is pushing the limits. I don't know what the exact ruling is, but I bet it has been addressed. Maybe a coach can fill us in.

Kirbyville will come into the game as the favorite in everybody's minds but the boys on the football field. Kirbyville's players surely believe they can and probably should beat Jasper this year. Jasper's players will know that this game has huge playoffs implications. Should be a great game.

Two best games I can think of are the Jasper/Gilmer game..that was a workout just watching it. The second was in the 1994 when Jasper finally beat WO-S in the playoffs. It was the one and only time we beat them in the playoffs with several attempts. Felt good. Wasn't that game at SFA also?

Which Ned. back signed with SFA? Was it Sumrall or did he go to NW?

PA had the blazing fast Hurdler a few years ago, and Bryan Bronson from Jasper ran the hurdles in the olympics. Relay Team you have to mention Jasper's 39.9 team. Triple Jump Jasper had a kid set the State Record a few years ago at the state meet and come in 2nd at the same meet High Jump couple 7 foot jumpers come to mind. I was at the meet in Tarkington when Eisbach set one of his many records. Sprinters Jamaal Charles most recent, but there have been many state champs in the area.
