Well I can't speak to the knowledge pee-wee coaches do or don't have; I can only speak from my own experience. it's obvious by watching the games and talking with players that's Neece is very good at executing a specific plan. The problems come when the need arises to adjust that plan to compensate for his players and opponents.

As far as evaluating talent, I think he probably is well aware of what he has, but Kville is a small town with small town politics and a goold ole boy network alive and well and that plays a part in evaluations as well.

And if players not quitting is a standard of good coaching, you might try to get a current roster and compare it with our season opener. The last two weeks have brought kids dropping like flies.
Is that from the coaching or from the kids hearing people like you and Kvillecats running their head about how much they know the coach is doing wrong? Give me a break. And by not quitting, I meant during the game Einstein. :o If you think you could make adjustments to compensate for WT's defense in Newton you are delusional. WT shows anywhere from 12 to 15 different fronts throughout the game. Offense is the same way. What you see as success by change, might just be luck and luck is hard to predict.  8)
  2. I believe Newton will take this one. EC comes in as the reigning 2 times district champion so you can't discount them. If Newton stumbles, EC will take advantage. They are very well coached and have the winning attitude it takes to overcome the odds. I can name a long list of games that Newton was over matched in and still won dating back years. I can also name a long list of games that Newton was supposed to win and didn't. Friday night should be interesting to say the least. Newton by 2 touchdowns. Changed from 2 points.
  3. rykerx your 100% correct. Coach Barbay cared about winning, because he hated losing, but he was more. Using the term "father figure" gets overused maybe now days, but Coach Barbay was just that. He would correct you, whip your tail when you got out of line, but expect you to stand up and be a man in life as well as in sports. He was gruff at times, but always had time to speak to you. I agree that you can't compare coaches to coaches as they are all different people. Newton was so blessed to have this man come to Newton and "try it for a year" as he told his wife in 1968. Thank goodness it lasted a little bit longer. EC folks, check out the black granite memorial with the football on top of it at the right of the main entrance to Singletary stadium/Barbay field. And I don't think anyone was trying to down play the coaching staffs of either team. But until they can match the records and accomplishments of Coach Barbay they will remain in his shadow IMO.

(coach barbay).. if you are nothing but a ditch digger you be the best ditch digger there is...............................
on a funny note (coach barbay).....dam son you run like a water fauset...lol
I was "slower than my grandmother" as a running back. Like I said, he wasn't one to pull punches. ;D
  5. He was an assistant when I played for him in the late 60's and my son played for him in the early 2000's and again not much changed. He expected you to prepare, work, and perform. His expectations were high as was his goals for the team. He believed in kids and was honest. He would never tell you anything he didn't believe, good or bad. I've seen him with tears running down his cheeks after losses in the playoffs with him saying he felt sorry for the kids, not himself or the other coaches. He was a christian and I believe tried to guide kids in life, not just football.

I believe his 2nd or 3rd season they were making noise
he was on the staff long before he was the HC right?
Actually he was Head Coach at West Sabine I think before he went to Kirbyville. He was an assistant at Newton under Barbay before that and at Jasper before that. He and WT Johnston were college team mates in Arkansas.

The people of Kirbyville that know so much about winning coaches (they've had 1 in the last 30 years) should get back to running the show. They know Jack Alverez carried them further than they have ever been and so no one but him can do it again. Why did he leave? Because Kirbyville has this mountain of talent that everyone can see? Can anyone name the last 6 coaches prior to Alverez? Can anyone name the last 4 winning seasons prior to Alverez? If you can name any of these your memory is long enough to remember what a doormat Kirbyville was for years. Run your coach down and get him fired. Then you can get back to losing and firing coaches, then hiring a coach and losing and firing the coach, then hiring a coach and losing and....... pee wee coaches are the greatest football minds in any community, just ask them.
Smh...Jack didn't leave because of the talent level. I guarantee you if he was back at Kirbyville, he would get more out of these kids. He was good at evaluating his talent and played his best players in those key positions. He was a great offensive line coach as well. Just hope we get things turned around in a heart beat, there's too much talent coming up to be in this kind of situation.
This statement tells all. You don't know squat. Coach Barbay at Newton evaluated talent during the year for the team and many, many times put players in positions he needed for them to play for the good of the team. Not where they were the best at or were "key" positions. And won many, many, many more games and titles by doing so. Again your knowledge of kids and football would fit on the head of a pin, and have room for the entire library of congress left over.

Newton will have to play a level higher than they have been playing to win this game.I just don't know if the coaches can get through to the kids that rankings doesn't give you free pass or overs. in golf a mullet or whatever. East chambers is the district champion and Newton will fight it out for a play-off spot if they don't play at a higher level. East chambers 35-21. I hope Newton will prove me wrong.jmo
Great insight. They've had a bye week, played Warren then Kirbyville. No reason to have a let down or as you say look at the rankings. If winning by wide margins is a let down, I hope we have let downs the rest of the year and the coaching staff continues to bumble their way through.

Pretty much.  He ran it in.  Caught a pass ran it in.  Toke a kickoff and ran it in.  Came out of the concession stand and ran it in and played in the band and ran it in.

Ok the last two aren't true.  But he pretty much had his way on all other aspects.
Yikes if your the Newton Eagles  :o
Why yikes? This is what he does. A great running back will get his, and Roberts is a great running back. This is nothing new. Newton will be ready. ;)

What ever man, Kirbyville can be a really good football team if they can fix a few things. I hate the fact Red Haywod haven't played all season long and its hurting us as far as the running game concern. In my opinion they missing Jack Alvarez too...smh
Now your gonna make me do it, aren't you. Coach Neece had a very good game plan that attacked Newton with multiple sets with a good mix of running the ball and passing. The Kirbyville defense played tough with great reads and stayed at home. Once again your showing you have no idea what went on on the field.
Coach Neece is NOT a good head coach...he's inconsistent. Yes he came up with a decent plan for YALL but again.....
so you blaming the coach now?
Yep...he's GARBAGE!!
kvillecats you make me almost ashamed to be a Wildcat fan...I got two words for you.. SHUT Up !!!!!!!
I'm going to say this again, Kirbyville had a real good game plan and executed their plan to the best of their ability. I thought the kids from Kirbyville played hard, hit hard, never gave up. If they had connected on a few plays that were wide open, it would have  been a different ball game. Kvillecats is a jerk and I say things just to set him off, but Kirbyville doesn't deserve a fan like him. Kirbyville has battled with the injury bug and still continues to field a competitive team. Coach Neece seems like he is doing the things he needs to do with what he has. Good luck Cats on the rest of the year.

    Newton 40-17
Much closer game than what the score indicated...good luck Newton on the rest of the way. Sigh...Kirbyville gonna have to cut it out with the penalties and not able to score at the 1 yard line...smh
I cannot believe I'm doing this, but Kvillecats is correct. Had Kirbyville completed a few wide open plays it would have been a much closer game. I cannot believe I just typed that. :o 8) 8)
