I did see several people with Kville colors on at the scrimmage in Newton the other night, but most of them were high school age kids.

I like the (even from Kirbyville) part! That is too funny. :D

And the grass on the field was shorter than we're used to and the PA was louder than normal and the way they started parking the cars was different............. :P

Oh your absolutely right and dead on with your observations. That was why Buna scored so many times during the scrimmage. I lie awake at night worried that Kirbyville is such a powerhouse that we can't win, no matter what. I wish you would stop posting so I could get back to sleeping again! :o

I don't care about rankings or district titles. First got to make the playoffs. Then got to get better in the playoffs. I don't care what the Golden Triangle thinks or calls us. We have been lots of places that most down there only dream about. Texas High School Football history has Newton written in many places in the upper 5% of all schools in Texas. Why do we need anyone's approval? Go Eagles! Could be a real good year for us. Have to wait and see.

Making the playoffs out ways anything else during the season. Favorites, rankings, polls, all that don't mean a thing. Make the playoffs and the important season begins.

I agree with Tigersvoice 100%. oldbuc77 your post was well thought out and written so that understanding your thoughts was no struggle. +1 on karma and I too welcome you. And your right about winning it all, it is sweeeeeet. But I feel I must point out one thing you didn't mention and that is luck. I firmly believe that a team has to be lucky at some point in the playoffs to win it all and you can never tell when that will be. Good post.

Kirbyville will be chasing all night when they play Newton. Newton will run over, around, and through Kirbyville. Then will pull up and go deep with a pass to take it home. Kirbyville better run wind sprints cause they gonna be chasing a lot of people all year.

You should have read this board 2+ years ago. Newton absolutly SNEERED at "weak" EC, and all the "weak" teams in our district. Newton was going to stomp this district into a mudhole.

One reason Newton people did talk was because you continually ran your mouth about our coach Barbay and how he had done EC wrong. You done this with quotes attributed to him that were inaccurate and what he did say was the truth! After beating EC in the first round of the playoffs easily (55-not much) he was asked how he felt about his team and he replied he didn't really know because they hadn't played anyone any good yet. EC wasn't any good that night. Now EC has beaten Newton two years in a row. The first year was a week after Coach Barbay had died. Not much emotional baggage on Newton's sideline that night, huh? EC has had a good program and love the fact they have made it into the playoffs 17 straight years. Good thing. Not great. Newton can trump that streak and add three trips to the state title game during that streak and winning two of those games. One each in 3A and 2A. EC can not come close to matching that. So before you launch off into accusing Newton of running their head and EC taking them to the wood shed, you should look into your own soul and see what drives you. And I'm sincere in calling their program good, but not great.

I believe in supporting my local team, but do it by paying my school taxes yearly(which seem to go up yearly). Never would I put my home up as collateral and rely on a bunch of elected school board members to decide to pay it off for me. Crazy don't even begin to describe this.

Maybe not, but they take up roster spots and that don't leave a lot for your "young" team. And no matter what you say, they are gonna occupy some starting spots, so your "young" theory just don't wash.

Don't believe everything your told. I've heard this before about the talent coming to Newton and it's not true. Economics have caused many to move from East Texas as the wood industry jobs dried up. Just moving to Newton or Jasper would not have helped. Few jobs there as well. Poor coaching has not helped Burkeville in the recent past.
